This place is very good for something different. They have a lunch buffet with a wide variety of foods, and everything was hot and fresh. We were there around 1 pm on a Wednesday and were the only people there, which was kind of nice. The wait staff was friendly and quick too, but I am leaving a four star review because some of the foods did not have a whole lot of the flavors I’ve come to expect from other Indian places around town.

Years ago, I remember eating at the original Fulton Heights location, from which Palace of India has twice since moved. On Friday, I paid my first visit to their current location on East Fulton with the same people who had joined me the previous Friday at Curry Kitchen. These two establishments are generally regarded as having the best Indian buffets in town, and at the same price point($ 11 per person on a Friday). Personally, I enjoyed Curry Kitchen more, but the rest of my party preferred Palace of India. Truth be told though, you can’t go wrong with either, because both are very good. On my visit, the buffet included two rice dishes(plain basmati rice and egg biryani), three meat dishes(butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and lamb rogan josh), four vegetarian dishes(«mixed vegetables,» dal makhani, palak paneer, and navarattan korma. There was also a salad(without the same variety of condiments), kheer, and mango custard. And fresh, extremely hot naan(plain) was brought to the table. Unfortunately, the mango lassi which is included at Curry Kitchen costs extra here. Everything was relatively tasty, but the navarattan korma was the star of the show. Service was adequate, though less efficient than at Curry Kitchen, On the upside, tables were more comfortable, and the restaurant was more spacious. Given its location just around the corner from Hopcat, this is the perfect lunch spot to visit before going for a beer if you’re not in the mood for Hopcat’s upscale bar food.

Time and time again I find myself going to Palace of India as my first choice in town. Not only are Jesse and Sundeep always accommodating and friendly, but they have better naan than most places in town, subtlety in flavors with a true freshness, and an atmosphere that gets nicer and nicer as time goes on. Although my favorites are their homemade samosa chaat, tikka masala, and garlic naan, I continue to try more items on their extensive menu!

Terrific fresh flavorful food, excellent service and don’t miss the buffets at lunch. Our favorite Indian place in GR. Not to be missed. Favorites are the veggie korma, onion kulches, lamb saag and butter chicken. So far – there area any more dishes to explore.

Got take out from here on a Thursday. The order was ready on time, and reasonably priced. The portion size is kind of small compared to other Indian places around town. Only complaint is that the spice levels are not really accurate. If you order a 5 on a 1 – 5 scale, it should be HOT… It was more a mild 5. Just FYI for you spice lovers.

So happy to have finally found a good spot to get great Indian food at! Everything was fantastic… the service, the food, even the prices were good. I highly recommend trying this place! I had the malai kafta, my husband had chicken tika masala. We both loved our dishes. Definitely get the garlic naan, it’s delish!

During my last few visits, I’ve ordered an assortment of dishes off their expansive menu. Choose from a variety of lamb, goat, seafood and vegetarian options. Each dish is served al la carte so be sure to add rice or naan bread to round out your meal. Tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, vegetable pakora, goat curry and peas pulao rice completed our order. The chicken and seekh(lamb) kebabs were cooked in a clay oven giving the meats a unique and delicious flavor. The remaining dishes exhibited wonderful combinations of spices, textures and heat levels making for an enjoyable and memorable meal. The only drawbacks I’ve encountered here are slow service and a décor that doesn’t do much for me. Otherwise, it’s my favorite place for Indian in Grand Rapids.

Not only good Indian food but also elegant ambience A place where you can take business clients downtown for a quiet upscale experience with a good price. Rented the place for my 60th birthday

The service isn’t really that great. There was no one to great us at the door and with no sign we were left to wonder if we were supposed to seat ourselves. We waited almost 45 minutes to get our food. The rice and the naan are both an additional charge. However, the food was well worth the wait. On top of that, when we went to leave they gave me more rice for my box to take home at no additional charge. I highly recommend experiencing the restaurant for yourself.

My favorite Indian Restaurant in GR. Great lunch buffets for 8.95…how can you beat that?!? Also in a nice location of Fulton, easy to get to. Saturday and Sunday lunch buffet if $ 2 more so come on a weekday.

LITERALLY doing a «live tweet» version/play-by-play as I’m sitting here-please enjoy. — This review was started a year ago – my position on this place(and I’ve visited multiple times since) hasn’t changed one bit! First off-it’s all of 9* outside and the place is respectably«not busy.» With the random and frequent take out or delivery person popping in, the place isn’t any more or less crowded than any other in the area considering the bitter cold. Host sat me down and showed me to a cute table, since I had no idea who my server was I thought he could assist with some drinks. So he summoned my server and she was very helpful with both her suggestions for house and other drink options. I chose their house Pinot(noir) and it’s quite nice. The chat-impeccable flavor on a traditionally bland crunchy snack. Yummmm. Appetizer: ordered the Paneer Tikka and the platter came out SIZZLING! Amazing starter if you’re vegetarian, loaded with grilled onions and peppers. This reminds me of a sizzling hot fajita platter-complete with the sizzle sounds and aromas that accompany it. The flavor was nice-could’ve used more salt/spices but didn’t lack in taste. Delicious crisp edges of the paneer and the veggies were a lovely addition to this dish. Main Course: Butter Chicken. It’s literally my mission to taste every butter/makhani chicken dish in as many different Indian places I can sink my teeth into – and I’m super stoked to dive in! Hold on, my plate’s here… WOW. Their gravy is on point. Bad news and why not more stars: they use dark meat as well as the light. Call me a chicken meat snob, sure, but I rather enjoy the white meat chicken, myself. makes it easier to see the gristle while they butcher it so there’s less surprises in the dish itself. Yum. Yum. Yum. Go Here. Go Often. Try their lunch buffet so you can sample everything.

Great service. Obviously this isn’t a place widely utilized by GR natives. We sat right down at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The naan was outstanding. The Palak Paneer was incredible. Arguably some of the best I’ve had. The Shrimp Masala was great too. Seemed a little pricey, but not far from what I’ve paid at other Indian restaurants. Definitely a place that we will be making our way back to.

Best Indian buffet I have enjoyed a while. For 9 bucks your are offered some of the best Indian food in the Midwest. The food here is very very good, The service is good. The atmosphere is bland but very nice. I did not see any goat or lamb on the buffet, but the rest of the dishes were enough to keep me happy. I just wished it was in Sacramento.

Being an Indian, the food was not as per expectation. I went with 3 of my friends from Ohio. Biryani tasted like sambar rice. Tandoori was not having any spice or flavour. Service takes time and waiters do not pay attention to customers. Mango lassi came late.

Can’t stop raving about Palace of India. I have had Indian food in New York, Palm Beach, FL and England and by far this was the best I have ever eaten!!! If I could give 6+ stars I would. The Tandoori Shrimp were served on a hot iron platter coated in herbs and a bit of char, fresh fresh fresh… and a big portion to share. The Chicken Tikka Masala was thick and creamy and very flavorful… lovely over the Basmati rice. We ordered garlic Naan and Kashmiri Naan, both excellent! We had to try their Palak Paneer and were very pleased we did. It was delish! My friend order a Kingfisher beer which she enjoyed with the spicy foods. I’m looking forward to many more visits! Highly recommended!

The first time I had food from Palace of India was when my husband had to cater a business meeting. The food was phenomenal– samosas, chicken tikka masala, chana masala, saag paneer, curry chicken, naan– everything was good! So we decided to eat in on a Saturday night about 9pm. We were not the only table there that late, and they were happy to seat us. The first thing that I noticed was how clean and nicely decorated the restaurant is. The service was ok, not bad, but just maybe a little odd because no one really said much to us. Anyway, we ordered the samosas, lamb kabobs, chicken tikka masala, bhindi masala(okra), and a bread basket. First, they brought out free papadums with a sweet tamarind chutney and a spicy cilantro chutney. Then, we had the samosas; they were hot and filled with potatoes and peas! They were delish! As for the entrees, they were all really good! The okra was my favorite and my husband’s go-to chicken tikka masala was also amazing! The sauce was creamy and a little spicy. The bread basket was my favorite! We picked the cheese naan, garlic naan, onion kulcha, and parantha… all of them were amazing! They were served very hot in and cut up into pieces for sharing. There are no «spice levels» here. They told me that most of the dishes are served medium spicy, so if you do not like spicy, definitely tell them to keep your food mild! My nose was running by the end of the meal! FYI: They did NOT bring us rice to go with our dishes(minus 1 star). Every Indian restaurant that I’ve been to has always included rice with the entrees. We had to ask for rice, and then didn’t find out until we got the bill that they charged $ 2.95 per bowl!!! I was very upset. Next time, I will just order entrees to-go and make my own rice at home!

The new chef is blowing my mind! I wonder if he has discovered how to get crack into the ghee. Black dal, yellow dal, vindaloo, palak paneer, the tandori, the breads — very tasty every time. Parking in back. Open late. Full bar. Comfortable seating. Attentive service. Classy ambiance. A lively view out the front. Super nice owners. I’m telling all my Indian friends down at Whirlpool that this is the place to check out in GR,

Um… this place DELIVERS. I can’t explain how exciting it is to have delivery that is not pizza. The fact that the food is absolutely delicious indian cuisine(the best in town) makes me so excited that my very lazy self logged onto Unilocal in order to share my enthusiasm. I started with samosas, and was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and delightful they were(I can usually take them or leave them). I then dug into the Palak Paneer. Whenever I try a new place I start with my good ol’ fallback, it serves as my litmus test. And I am pleased to say it passed with flying colors. I could actually taste spinach and cheese, instead of only a glob of goop and spices. I’m excited to dine in once I get my act together and leave the house. In the meantime, delivery it is!
