Alright. So, as a road warrior, sometimes eating at all the fancy places aren’t as satisfying and you just want to go back to your roots. It’s what helps remind me of home in CA. It was such a pleasure to have found this place in Grand Rapids of all places. First things first… I came on a Wednesday at 9:50am and although the hours state 9am-9pm they weren’t open. To my dismay I started Unilocaling where else I could eat breakfast instead and at 10am. So if your coming in early… call ahead. I had the phở tai gan sach and banh hoi nem nuong. and i have to say that both these items were wonderfully done. I live near Madison Heights and have tried many vietnamese restaurants out there, but none have made their phở broth like this. it is done right because it is not overpowered by MSG or overly seasoned, but no depth of flavor. It’s also not very often that a vietnamese place offers banh hoi, so it was a welcome dish. In my family, we serve this dish during lunar new year and unfortunately I had to miss it. So this, in a way, makes up for a small bit of it. I very much wish that this restaurant was near my area because I know that it would do very well. More so than the other ones that are currently established. If you want authentic vietnamese food in your backyard Grand Rapids, well there you have it.

Let’s first say that this deserves 5 stars for the Phở. We got two varieties, one with beef balls, tendon, and sliced shoulder, and the other was a simple brisket. Both were amazing. The broth had a wonderful buttery pork/beef flavor with minimal fat with a hint of ginger. The basil, bean sprouts, and jalapeños were fresh and washed well. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked. The size of their large bowls and meat portions would easily make even a hungry man like myself take some home. We also ordered Vietnamese egg rolls, which are similar to Filipino Lumpia, with carrots and pork. It was served with a side of pepper flakes sweet vinegar that was perfect. These are a thin skinned fried egg roll and deserve to be tried.

Super meaty broth and a good portion size. Good thing the broth is very hearty, because they don’t really give you any beef. The overall bowl was yummy though. And you can’t beat 50% off Phở. It was 5 bucks for a super filling meal on a cold day.

I came here around 3:30 on a Tuesday so it was pretty slow I was also by myself. Service was good, I was greeted and given a water then ordered some hot tea. I ordered the spring rolls and a number 4. The portions are very generous for the price. Overall it was a very solid Phở and I loved the broth. As for the spring rolls they were a little weird at first but after I dipped them in the sauce they gave on the side I was in love. Definitely recommend and I will be back.

They definitely need more help with their wait staff– only one woman manning the front to seat and serve about 8 – 10 tables at a time(& fortunately they were not that busy the night I was there) get checks, run food, take calls and get take out customers’ food and bills. I went here because PHO is my go-to soup when I don’t feel well. I decided to dine in to enjoy soup and some tea. Thanks to Unilocal for these reviews, I drove from where I was staying in North grand rapids down to this place. The appetizers were enjoyable, everyone else at the surrounding tables seemed to clean their plates as well. I got beef broth phở with brisket and beef slices as well as Meatballs. The meatballs were well seasoned, but the brisket was too fatty– fortunately it came in large chunks so I was able to pick all of that out of my soup and continue to enjoy. every table is loaded with hot sauces, sriracha, Fish sauce, soy sauce, you name it. They provide a big plate of all the extra fixings(sprouts and basil, cilantro, mint leaves to add to your soup as well. If I did not have to wait for such an inordinate amount of time to not only get seated and to get some water, but also to wait for my order to be taken, and my appetizer, my food, my bill, etc I think they would’ve earned that last star from me. I will definitely be back, with expectations to be there longer than planned — but their food is definitely worth the wait.

Continuing my quest to have Phở in all 50 states, my travels have taken me to the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s 3 hours from Chicago and definitely worth the drive. Phở Anh Trang Vietnamese restaurant is one of Grand Rapids, Mi most beloved Vietnamese restaurants, simply due to the high Unilocal rating. I arrived here on a casual Wednesday afternoon, after arriving at Chicago earlier in the day. After parking in their large parking lot, I noticed the 50% off Phở scribbled on the window if you dined in. I thought that was cool. Turns out it was petty sweet, when it was time to pay. You know this place is pretty amazing when the Phở is just $ 5 after the nice discount. It was perfect here. Maybe I should move to Grand Rapids, MI and have Phở all day long. The overall experience here was generally fun, good, and just a great place for phở. Phở Anh Trang Vietnamese restaurant is located at 3363 Eastern Ave SE in Grand Rapids, MI. It’s not really in the downtown area of GR, but in a nice quiet area of the city. They accept major credit cards, which is always appreciated by me. The ambiance was very casual, quiet, and a place you’d like to be when you’d like to have a quiet meal by yourself. The restaurant was quite clean and unscrupulously radiant. The prices here are generally on par with other Vietnamese restaurants — with Phở being $ 7.95 to $ 10 a bowl and the rice dishes around $ 10 as well. I’m just happy with the 50% off the Phở at this place. It’s a good sales tactic that would work on anyone. For myself, I just went straight for the Phở bac diet: the combination Phở and also ordered some rice paper rolls for good measure. I couldn’t order just a phở without having something else, especially with the discount already there. The rice paper rolls were decently good, especially dipped in peanut sauce and blessed with shiracha hot sauce. It made for a serious hunger attack go away. The Phở itself was pleasantly good and maybe I should have ordered extra noodles to have sealed the deal. It was dinner that was done right on the road. The broth was good and the meat just melted in the mouth for an excellent combination of flavors and subtle reminders of why phở is one of my favorite dishes. The service here was good, fast, and friendly. Phở Anh Trang Vietnamese restaurant is definitely recommended for you, if you are around the Grand Rapids area or anywhere nearby. It was definitely worth the drive from Chicago and finding this place on Unilocal. Support local! A

Dined here recently. The Phở was ok. With a few Phở places in town I have become picky and discerning with this soup. One thing I observed though is they are a bit inconsistent with the quality of their food including their rice plates and vermicelli dishes. Its a bit of a repeat of their previous location which is why I stopped going there bc it got worse and worse. I hope that they learned from that location and keep the quality up.
