Big Five Sporting Goods

I’ve shopped at Big 5 stores in several cities, and with the exception of certain Athletic shoe sales, and surplus military rifles, pretty much the chain is no longer really worth shopping at! I can remember when they sold handguns, and sold locally appropriate, name brand quality fishing gear. Now there fishing selection is pretty much generic junk, with little regard to local equipment and specialized fishery items well suited to fishing local waters. Every year, it seems like they drift farther into trying to be a half assed general merchandiser, and less geared towards sporting goods. I used to buy quite a lot of fishing tackle at Big 5, not only did they sell quality brands, but they had fishing managers who knew the products well. To be fair to the GP store, it’s neither better or worse than any other Big 5 store I’ve been to in years, it’s simply a very generic and odd retailer
