What a beautiful space! Who knew it used to be Bunce’s Bar. They have done a wonderful job preserving the history of the place while making it new at the same time. Live music was playing and what a great sound this place has. Very nice and complex wines with wonderful finishes too!

We did 5 wineries in the area and this one came in 2nd place and the best in downtown GV! Yes, the Primativo is excellent and we bought a bottle for our picnic. I definitely recommend it!

A bar converted to an A-Class Winery. Exactly what Grass Valley needed. Not only do they have wine that fit your palates but employees that fill the air with comfort and excitement. My husband and I are huge fans of Smith Winery and will continue to support their business. We recommend Primitivo — pepper, strawberry and a smokey taste. Cheers to everyone who’s a first to their bottle and to those who are loyal customers. Thank you Smith for opening your doors!!!

I was visiting my brother who lives near Grass Valley and we happened to come across this charming winery. Not only was the wine fantastic but they have great cheese plates. The owner was extremely nice and fun to chat with. Can’t wait to go back next time I’m in town!

I love Grass Valley and how beautiful it is but this is the first time I’ve been wine tasting there and I have to say Smith was fantastic! They were so friendly and I loved the many of options they had. Very clean and lots of fun stuff to look at when you first walk in. I will definitely go back, it was a fantastic experience!

Grass Valley is beautiful and has some great wine tasting and Smith is one of my faves. I have been to this tasting room a few times and have always had friendly, attentive service even when they are super duper busy. Saturday my girlfriends and I were on a fun girls day out and since the tasting bar inside was full we took our spots out front. The girl pouring is the same girl I have seen before and I wish I would have gotten her name, but alas, I did not. She is a very nice girl and very knowledgeable about the product. I personally do not drink white wines, so I have only tasted the reds. A couple of my girls started with the whites and were very impressed. I started with the Primitivo and it was wonderful, just as I remembered from previous visits. Next we were onto the Barbera that was equally as wonderful. The Cab Sauv was kick ass as well. I believe we had a Syrah and finished with an awesome Rose. I have never had a bad taste from this place. Bottom line: For great service and AWESOME wine, check out Smith!

This is my favorite tasting room in downtown Grass Valley. The atmosphere is great, especially during Summer time. They have inside/outside seating and showcase local artists. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy some wine. They occasionally have events at the vineyard too. If you ever have a change to go you should!

My husband and his family have been to the Smith Vineyard & Winery on the Wine Trail last Spring… we were NOT disappointed. I’ve never tasted a more delicious 2008 Syrah in my life! Oh, and the Petit Syrah? Forget about it. They were kind enough to let me sample the wines over and over again to decide which to buy… so I decided to buy a bottle of each. When my husband and I got married, I bought another bottle of the 2008 Syrah to put in our wedding box that we sealed after our marriage ceremony to share on our first anniversary… I’m so looking forward to October! The winery is so beautiful and small and down-to-earth. The family is very friendly and will talk with you at the drop of a hat. I hope to go back many more times! The wine tasting room is wonderful, too — if you haven’t been there, you must!

One of the great new additions to Grass Valley’s wine scene, this space is even more beautiful and inviting than the photos make it appear. I encourage any fan of the grape to make a little detour on their way to Tahoe in order to stop in here — it’s just two blocks from the exit off Hwy 49. Cheers!

I popped in for a quick afternoon tasting while in town on business. Christine was very sweet and friendly. They have a pretty impressive little selection. I loved the family pictures running in the background in and around the winery. The tasting room itself is very quaint and relaxing. If I lived in town, I could definitely see myself hanging out here!

What a great place. Wonderful people and fantastic wine. What more could you ask for. Gary and Christine run the most friendly winery in town. Try the 2008 Primativo — spicy, black pepper, complexity, a real treat. On Saturdays they have live music to go along with great wine tasting.
