Okay now, this is right fun. A «game store.» They sell lots of board games, miniature figures for table-top battles(but they don’t sell Ral Partha or Grenadier, sadly, as they were among the best miniatures manufacturers in the business, but are both out of business now), wargame magazines, polyhedral dice, and more. The one thing I miss are the big gamer magazines — Strategy & Tactics in particular, and S&T’s games. I think they have a couple of Avalon Hill games. Digital Dungeon regularly provides tables for miniature wargames. The development of strategic and tactical expertise was one of the main motivations behind the development of formally regulated war games by such historically important developers and players as Donald F. Featherstone. Some of the armchair generals are experienced and adept. But rest assured, even the most novice player is welcome and made to feel a part of Digital Dungeon’s gaming community right from the start.(And you can win stuff!) The current interest in table-top gaming centers around fantasy armies. Speaking for myself, I would prefer watching reenactments of historical battles — Republican and Imperial Rome, Musket and Pike, Cavaliers and Roundheads, Napoleonic Wars, and so on. I wish more people were interested in actual historical battles, and I wish the books of Featherstone were as appreciated today as they were in the heyday of the creation of the wargames movement.
