The food was lackluster and disappointing while the service was two steps behind that. It was a dismal dining experience not worth the price and I would not recommend this particular restaurant to anyone.

We went out for dinner the other night and decided to get some Chinese. With our favorite place closed, we headed over to Bön Orient, the place wasn’t very busy and it was about 7p.m. which I would have figured the place to be pretty busy. Anyway we were greeted by a man at the register who plainly said, «pay before you eat», well we’ve never had to do this before so I went ahead and gave him the money and we went over and picked out a table. We both went up to get some food and boy was it disappointing, the pans were all just about empty and they weren’t hurrying to get more out, even though people were coming into the place after us. Also I’ve never been to a place where the utensils and napkins weren’t already on the table, so you’re juggling your fork and knife or spoon and napkins and your first plate of food. Then you have to go back up and get your drink, everywhere else I’ve been they get your drink for you. The food was not bad, what we got of it and not once did someone come over and say anything to us. We will definitely not be going back there or if we do it will be much earlier, I think it was just too late when we were there. But I just didn’t like the whole system that they have going on. I’m not a juggling kind of girl…

Lots of variety, food tasted fresh. Went for lunch. Will definitely go back. Two soups, rices, dim sum, entrée table. Peanut chicken and egg foo young were especially tasty. Dessert table was sufficient, along with salad bar.

Be warned about employees trying to surreptitiously steal your money here! I went into this restaurant last weekend for their luncheon buffet and handed the clerk $ 23 for my $ 7.76 purchase. I wanted to get $ 15 and change back so I wouldn’t have a wallet full of singles when she returned my change. I know I had $ 24 in my wallet and gave her $ 23 of that and should’ve received $ 15.24 in change after making that $ 7.76 purchase. Pretty simple math, right? Well, the Hmong clerk, who apparently is lacking in either her scruples or mathematical skills, gave me .24 cents back and then tried to claim I didn’t give her the full $ 23. I argued my point because I knew I was in the right. I told her I would not leave the restaurant until I received my proper change back and that if she didn’t give it to me, I would contact the police. She ran off, screeching in Hmong to her manager. They even had a video camera there, which would’ve proved my claim to the police, along with my fingerprints on that $ 20 bill. The male manager goes into this room off to the side to supposedly review their security video. She meanwhile continues to scream in Hmong, which was very unprofessional. If you’re dealing with a problem with a customer, you need to be communicating what’s going on with said customer in their language, English, unless it’s purely a Hmong speaking establishment, which was not the case here. She didn’t communicate at all what was going on, just made me stand there and wait. I simply maintained my composure because I knew if I had to contact the police that I was in the right and that they would find my fingerprints on that $ 20 bill I handed her. She continued to argue with her manager, both of them in Hmong, while holding me up for almost a half an hour. Finally, she hands me her cell phone and has me talk to the manager, who’s hiding out in the back room. He could’ve come out and talked to me in person. I explained to him that I was not being unreasonable and that if he came and checked out his till and compared it to his receipts, that he would find his cash drawer $ 15 over. This seemed to be too much of an effort for him, which really makes me question what kind of management they have at this establishment. He told me he would give me my $ 23 back and would like me to not frequent their restaurant again. I told him that once he returned my money to me, he could be sure I wouldn’t EVER be returning to their restaurant again, and that I’d be sure to let others know how they conducted business there. I’d gone in simply wanting to sit down and have a quick lunch and ended up wasting my time in this mess thanks to their mistake. I think their biggest fear was me contacting the police and creating a scene for them in their restaurant which would look bad for them. It would’ve proved my innocence and shown the ineptitude of this clerk who insisted on blaming and berating me for HER mistake. I tried being reasonable with her but she was quite unprofessional, refused to check her cash drawer to see if she was indeed $ 15 over in her till. Also, the police would’ve been able to determine that there was indeed a $ 20 bill in there with my fingerprints on it, which I had handed to her even though she claimed I didn’t. Again, knowing I was in the right, I stood my ground and would’ve contacted the police if they had refused to refund my money. I should also mention that while I was standing there calmly waiting for this manager to review his surveillance video, another patron came in and used her credit card to make a transaction. This same clerk forgot to give the woman her card back and then had to run after her in the restaurant to return it. So, be very, very careful should you decide to visit this establishment. If you are handing cash over, you may have to show the bills individually and announce the amount you are giving to the cashier to prevent her from making mistakes like this again. I’d like to think it was simply a mistake, but perhaps it’s a scam they use to try to get extra money from unsuspecting individuals. Thankfully, I did not fall for their ruse and knew the law would be on my side. What terrible customer service though, to not even check to see if your clerk made a mistake and try to blame the customer for her mistake instead. I wonder why they wouldn’t show me what was on that surveillance video or why they wouldn’t call the police? I believe it’s because they knew they were in the wrong and instead of doing the responsible thing and just admitting their mistake, they tried to blame the victim. So be very, very careful when handing over any cash or your credit cards to the staff at this establishment. Make sure you’re letting them know that you know exactly how much you’re handing over and what you expect to get back as their staff is lacking in mathematical aptitude and not paying attention to what types of bills they’re putting into their cash drawer. Buyer beware is definitely the case here!
