Awesome restaurant. Creative, casual and comforting. Exquisite, carefully prepared food, — generous portions! Excellent service, great bar offerings and fantastic tasteful décor — hip but not obnoxiously so. Truly a 5-star experience.

We’ve been to Magpie’s a number of times and am always impressed. Their pizza brings something different to Greenfield,(thin, crispy crust vs greasy, thick crust Greek pizza) and is definitely worth the extra money. Always good service even though they are always busy whether it’s a Weds or Sat.(A plus for their reputation). We always try new things and some are hit or miss but this is depending on your tastes and preferences in my opinion, not necessarily a reflection on the quality(which is always great!)

Clean. Tastiest four cheese pizza and the freshest garden salad that I have had in quite some time. We look forward to returning. As we are fans of the People’s Pint, we were dismayed by the selection of beers on tap. The Smuttynose IPA was excellent and they do offer the extremely common BBC Steel Rail. I would like to see more BBC selections as well as some offerings from the local microbreweries on tap. We’ll return.

Four of us had dinner at Magpie tonight. It was less than stellar. One pasta dish had spaghetti that was crusty(the manager was fabulous and ensured that the dish was replaced as well as a free dessert for the table), the Mac and cheese was soupy with glops of cheese and little flavor, a pizza had burnt crust on one side and grit in the wild mushrooms. Too many things wrong for any restaurant. Again, the manager was wonderful, but we were not about to send three dishes back to the kitchen. Very disappointing.

We came on a Monday night with a table of 6. The place was crowded, which looked promising. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. It was a mixed affair. For apps we had a few bread plates and some fried eggplant. the eggplant was OK, not soggy, not bitter, but also almost devoid of flavor. It was served with an equally flavorless romanesco. I guess that is the nature of eggplant, but I would have expected something out of the sauce. The bread plates were nice. The goat cheese was delicious as was the salt and oil combo with the bread. For entrees, I had a oven roasted Caesar salad. Perhaps I’m out of the loop, but I understand all Caesar salads to have dressing. My salad was exactly a head of romaine lettuce, covered in B+ parmesan, cooked in the oven until the top leaves burnt. There were 6 granite like croûton as well. solid D. My party had a few different dishes, all of which were enjoyed including the potato pizza and the ricotta mac and cheese. The entire business is slow: kitchen, bar, waitstaff The kitchen is open to the dining room. While waiting for our food I watched the kitchen staff work. They didn’t seem to move well as a team and I could see no obvious chef. I would give it 3.5 stars, but that isn’t how Unilocal works. I would give it four stars if the menu had more variety(so much arugula), if a salad as straight forward as a Caesar wasn’t an oven roasted head of romaine, and if things had been faster. Basically So-so with a crowd.

Terrific, informal spot for some of the greatest thin-crust pizza in the Happy Valley. Other fine Italian dishes too. Full bar with great cocktails. Generally cool vibe. Do it particularly if the crowd is too heavy and the wait too long at Hope & Olive. Wunnerful.

Love the pizzas and the people! I almost always try the special pie and I’ve never been disappointed. There aren’t a lot of taps, but they always have a good selection with at least one solid IPA, like Pretty Things Meadowlark. Kid friendly too. There are a couple of tables that make for a very good date spot or just sit at the bar.

I had great food here 3 years ago… not anymore. I will say this: service was above excellent and our waitress was friendly, helpful, unhurried(in the good way) and professional. The food was overall pretty terrible and I regret not just sticking to pizza. The Greek salad was fresh but mediocre… Mussels arrived second, and a week later I am still regretting not sending back. Three of them(out of about a dozen) were bad, with cracked shells and all. The broth they came with was an acidic, flavorless court-bouillon and the cheap cooking wine was the main thing that shone through. Really bummed about the mussels. The special pizza of the evening came out and was pretty delicious,(fontina mushroom spinach etc). It was burned on one side and undercooked on the other, and parts of the crust were tough and overworked, but altogether it was well topped, high quality, tasty and kind of rustic and what I expected. If I were ever in Greenfield on a Monday night again, I’d probably get Korean takeout„ but if I came back to Magpie I’d sit bar side for better ambiance, and stick to the pizza.

I ordered take out the other night with my boyfriend. We just moved to the area and aren’t huge fans of the Greek style local pizza we’ve tried so far so we decided to give Magpie a try. The staff was friendly, the sauce was excellent, the cheese tasted fresh. The crust was crispy around the edges, slightly burned, and soggy in the middle. I also ordered a Caesar salad which was average tasting, but wasn’t worth the $ 9 price. Bread is not included with purchases. Overall our experience was too expensive for what we got, and we probably won’t be returning frequently.

The pizza was great. It was creative and yummy. Completely worth the 45 minute wait for takeout. The host was awful. I picked up two pizzas and an app while carrying an infant in a car seat and tending to my 5 year old. The host said my order was ready and he would get it as soon as he did some math. He not only did some math but went to the kitchen twice, dropped a check at a table, and cleared another table before going to get my order. He then commented on «how strong» I was to be holding all this. The food was good, but not good enough to put up with service like that.

Very good pizza! Great meatballs! Everything else is hit or miss. Seams like everyone in this area eats early so make sure you make reservations or get take out.

The wait is long, but the food is really tasty. And, there is so much food, you get to enjoy the leftovers again on the next day. We stopped by on a Sunday night — spurred on by other Unilocal reviews. Most people order pizza, I think, because there are mainly pizzas being served at other tables. But, let me tell you what you should do. Order Nana’s meatball appetizer and the salad of your choice. It will be two meals. Nana’s meatballs are amazingly tasty. They are not just a little meat and a lot of filling. It seems to be good quality meat with just the right amount of flavoring. I added a chop-chop salad and had enough food for days. My wife and mother-in-law also came. My mother-in-law ordered this amazing lasagna with real slices of high quality beef. This wasn’t the cheap ground stuff. It was actual slices cooked properly in a great lasagna. My wife also had a great pasta dish. As for service, I noticed that the table next to ours had a pizza that seemed a little«well done.» They called over the server to complain. She immediately apologized and ordered a replacement. But, she also offered to let them keep the current pizza(or a slice or two) so that they could snack while they waited. I think that they then removed the pizza from their bill. They made it right. So, you can come for the pizza. But, let me tell you, it is worth trying other items.

A friend and I happened upon Magpie by chance last night, while waiting for an event to start at ArtBlock. We were hungry and just wanted a bite to eat. What a surprise! I was skeptical, because I’m Italian and as picky as one can be when it comes to brick oven pizza. But Magpie’s pizza was excellent. Nice crust. Fresh ingredients. It was real delight and we enjoyed it very much. The hostess was also super gracious. Good job Magpie. Who’s your pizzaiolo? I’ll send my friends!

I really enjoy coming here. Their meatball appetizer is sooooooooooooooo good. It goes well with a salad or pizza. I like to order off their specials menu. Once I had the best salad I’ve ever had– it contained lightly pickled grapes, bacon crumbles(thick bacon!) and feta. It was perfectly dressed and I was in shock at how delicious it was. Sadly, this was just a daily special. I once got a meatball pizza and the meat was a little dried out. I’d recommend getting the meatballs separately and ordering a different type of pizza. I’ve had the white veggie one(so good) and Margherita(also so good). They have a nice cocktail and beer selection. Servers are super nice. The desserts I’ve had were rich and yummy– I think I had some sort of chocolate mousse. Even my sweets hating boyfriend enjoyed it. I enjoy the ambiance here as well. It’s a cozy place to eat, but can get busy at peak times. I forget what day they are closed… Maybe Tuesdays? I’ve forgotten a few times and showed up anyway, only to meet a locked door. I was thoroughly disappointed! I am glad this place is in Greenfield.

Last night we had dinner at Magpie before catching a movie and have to say that we enjoyed it. When stopped in it was half an hour before closing so we thought that we were going to be rushed through our meal. That was not the case in the slightest. We ended up ordering there bread for an appetizer as well as a Stromboli and pizza for our meals. The food overall was delicious, but the Stromboli was undercooked in a few spots. Besides that, the food was delicious and it is clear that they take pride in using only fresh ingredients. As a final note, our waitress was awesome and we can’t wait to come back.

Magpie is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Artisanal pizza, but not in a jackassy way. Great starters like the meatballs and the roasted veggies. Community and ambition. Hosts events for the area. Great drinks. Restores, or multiplies, your faith in humanity.

Should have a higher rating since they are owned by the five star Hope & Olive folks but Magpie slips in a few areas. We ordered the roasted vegetables in truffle oil and salt and the veggies came out very undercooked and hard. Had to send them back. The bacon and cauliflower pasta special was bland and boring, chintzy on the bacon and devoid of herbal seasoning. My wife’s cod cakes were generous and very tasty, albeit a bit too salty. The accompanying arugula was fresh and just right. Everything is fairly priced and the service is fine but the food did not measure up to the consistent delight of Hope & Olive.

Mostly a fan because I love the ambience. Big stove in the back, bustling staff, happy pizza-eaters seated inside and out, warm décor, a newly remodeled space. A classy joint by Greenfield’s standards. The pies are beautiful to look at. I ordered a build-your-own with roasted tomatoes, spinach, artichoke hearts and mushroom. Crust was crispy on the outside but soggy in the middle. The sauce was sweet and I wished it would have had a touch of tang, like Vincente’s in Portland, Ore. All the ingredients seemed fresh. The bubbles in the crust were burned. There were a few puddles on my pie, a mix of grease from the cheese and liquid from the tomatoes. Friend ordered a pizza he designed, something with spinach and sausage. It came out great except that they forgot the red sauce. Yes, you read that right. Forgot. the. red. sauce. The pizza was taken back, dappled with sauce, returned to the oven to warm, and then re-served to our table. Friend was happy and I was glad they didn’t make him wait for a whole new pizza but something about that whole situation seemed a bit off to me. Beer came out fast but I had to ask twice for my iced tea. Staff was friendly, place was hopping and we could hear each other fine. Friend actually has issues hearing me through ambient noise but no trouble with that tonight. For dessert we tried the cookie ice cream sandwich. Cookies were large, dense, and tasty and so was the ice cream, but honestly, the whole thing was just too big. Nobody needs that much sugar at the end of a meal. We couldn’t finish it and that felt wasteful. Would I go again? Yeah. I like the vibe. I’d order smarter next time. Maybe a salad and an app(steamed greens with garlic & chile?), plus a beverage. No dessert.
