Finally got to eat here. We’d tried before but the wait times were always too long. We loved it. I had the shrimp n grits app, not bad for grits made in NY.(they actually have 2 versions but call the other version shrimp and polenta… polenta is grits). Then we shared the bbg wedge salad — delicious with just a hint of the bbq sauce. Wife had the vegetable ravioli which she loved and i had the duck breast that I felt the same about. For dessert we split the refrigerator cake — delicious. All in all we will definitely be back, highly recommend Old Fields.

High end food without the pretentious crowd. Warm atmosphere with that«grandma’s home cooked meal» feel. Tory, our waitress, was very helpful and suggested great dishes! Unique menu and friendly, attentive staff. Will be coming back!

This place is amazing the food is so good and the managers are so awesome we had my daughters communion party there and we had the private room in the back and the waiter service was so good never left a glass empty or a dirty plate on the table would most definitely go back again and highly recommend this place to anyone

First time here. Great service. Good beer choice and my bride found her Manhattan delicious. Our appetizers included clams on the half shell, onion soup and mac & cheese(creamy and tasty). Entrees all excelled: rib eye, short rib risotto and vegetable ravioli. Friendly and professional service. A neighborhood place with very good food. We will be back

If you are steak person you are in for quite the treat! The décor and atmosphere is top notch. Beware, several people I have brought there have said the menu is limited if you are not in the mood for steak. However, it is a steak restaurant and they do it very well.

We went on a busy Sunday night, and it was packed. My husband didn’t want to wait, but was so happy we did. Grabbed a drink at the bar– bartender was friendly, helpful, and courteous! We were offered an earlier table at the«shared table», and my initial reaction was, «no way»! But we took it, and guess what? We never believed how much we liked it, because we got to sit right next to each other, didn’t say more than hello to anyone else, and there was PLENTY of room! Service was excellent, food was great! Can’t wait to go back.

Pro: Food was amazing! I had the breaded chicken and waffles & Mac n cheese. The chicken was crispy and salty on the outside and smooth and juicy on the inside. It was so yummy that it didn’t even need to be dipped in sauce! The Mac n cheese came steaming in a skillet and was fabulous as well! The waiter was cute and attentive and the restaurant had a quaint vibe to it. Con: The drinks are pricy and the bar fills up quickly after opening.

OK — that’s how I would sum-up my experience. First of all, the service was excellent. My server was very attentive and helpful. Nice atmosphere — sort of like a corner pub. I started with the lobster bisque special which was very good. Nice portion of lobster and well-seasoned. The spinach dip was nothing special — there was spinach and there was cheese… but lacking on flavor. Something I would expect from a supermarket freezer aisle being warmed up in microwave. The fish special sounded delicious — Bass with artichokes and asparagus. In fact, it looked very inviting(see my pic). However, it was over-done with salt. Probably deserves a second chance based on everything else being so right-on.

My boyfriend and I went for dinner and wanted to try a new place. So glad we did! Our waiter, Greg was beyond sweet, helpful, and attentive. We started with the wings which were soo delish and then each had a burger. Best turkey burger he’s ever had! The fries; sweet potato and regular were amazing and crispy onions too! The music was great and such a cool atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Amazing burger! Date night on a snowy evening, thought we would get in with no wait … Everyone had the same idea! Cozy, loud and delicious, it was worth the 20 minute wait ! Arugula salad was crisp peppery and satisfying. Onion soup was delectable. Hubby and I both had burgers. Creamed spinach as my side was creamy and delicious. Burger cooked perfectly medium rare. Our waitress recommended bread pudding in a mini cast iron skillet for dessert and we shared. Even had some to take home. Best $ 94 ever spent on a meal!

This is my favorite restaurant on Long Island! I love the cozy gastropub vibe and the service is great! I highly recommend ordering a Pickletini at the bar and then Ice Box Cake for dessert. You can’t go wrong with anything in between.

Chef Jovani is masterful at BBQ. His house-made BBQ sauce is a staple, a must have!!! Keep an eye out for his house specials. He is creative and accommodating. All sauces are made in-house, he orders prime steak cuts, all under Jovani’s guidance. The cuisine is just delicious. The manager, Mike, is well versed in his knowledge of whiskey, his suggestions are always on point. Make sure you work with Angela(server), she will make sure your experience at Old Fields is classic and enjoyable. She is thorough, precise and consistent in checking to make sure you are happy and satisfied. Excellent food, great steak, great people.

Walked in and was told it’ll be about 30 min wait. We(GF and I) grabbed a drink at the bar. Tried a Moscow Mule for the first time. Now I’m not a fan of Vodka but this drink was awesome! Gf had a Vodka and Cranberry her usual. The bartender was attentive considering how crowded it was, I was pleasantly surprised. Table was ready after waiting no more than 10 or 15 minutes. We planned on trying the burgers but looking around the steaks looked great so we’ll definitely be back. She had the Classic with Bacon and Bleu cheese, it was yummy… I took a bite or two lol I ordered Davy Gravey, Burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches with sweet potato fries, thee best burger on the island. On top of great food the service is right up there with any 5 star 4 $ restaurant. Our waiter was attentive when necessary but definitely not over bearing. Absolutely only negative was the dining area was a bit loud mostly from one table, but I guess you can have obnoxious people at any restaurant.

Nice place, great location in the heart of tiny, often overlooked Greenlawn, LI, NY. It’s been there FOREVER, but it took a generous gift card to get us in the door. Looks like it’s getting plenty of attention though, as it’s apparently been listed as one of Long Island’s 100 best restaurants. I’m not quite sure I’d go that far, but it was VERY busy on a recent Saturday night. We weren’t able to make a reservation, as we were five people, and were told they only take reservations for six or more(?!?) and had to wait an uncomfortable 10 – 15 minutes all squeezed into the entry/bar area, but we were pretty lucky(at 6:30pm) and were seated relatively quickly. Server came pretty soon to take our drink and appetizer order(wonderful spinach and artichoke dip with warm pita bread) and listed the tempting-sounding specials. None of us are big steak eaters, but they’ve got a large number of choices, all pretty pricey(to me), along with some great looking fish, seafood, and my lone veggie/pasta choice, Ravioli(other than some interesting sounding salads, available with or without meat). Maybe I’ve been gone from NY too long, and/or I’m just a die-hard cheapo(don’t want to spend a ton of $$$ even with a gift card!!) but in spite of being a «nice enough» place, I don’t think the prices matched what we were offered. Go if you’re in the area, esp. for some more reasonable burger and sandwich choices at lunch time/off hours, and I hear they also have a great brunch. We did fine, no real complaints, but wouldn’t have been my first choice without the gift card…

Went here for the first time today for dinner. The atmosphere was nice, lighting was dimmed with some cool old portraits in the wall. We started off with the spinach dip which came with pita bread and it was excellent ! Well seasoned and tasted fresh. They had some local beers which was cool. One of the best burgers I’ve had was there. Not too greasy and it came on a sesame bun. I ordered the Greenlawn burger which has cheese, bacon and onion rings on it. I had to add the fried egg on top because ever since I tried eggs on a burger I can’t have it any other way!!! The potato wedges were tasty and crispy. The tables had tic taco toe to play while waiting. They also had some other game with numbers and dice but I had no clue what it was so if anyone knows what it is please let me know! Only complaint I had was that we had to wait a while each time we needed to order a drink or needed something from the waiter. Great place though!

Old Fields was the second Newsday Top 100 restaurant that we put on our bucket list. Once again, it was a winner. The atmosphere was kind of like an Old West saloon with lots of wood and a bar that looked good for drinkin’ whiskey. It was very comfortable and friendly. I ordered The«56» Burger which was kissed with their special«56» marinade and topped with swiss cheese and onions that were sauteed into almost an onion jam. I took the onion rings on the side, and they were more like onion straws so I immediately piled a bunch of those on the burger too. The burger was big and juicy ordered medium, and there were plenty of onion rings left over for munching. My son ordered the Marinated Skirt Steak with mushrooms on top, mashed potatoes, green beans and he ordered the creamed spinach on the side. The mashed and beans were fine. But the creamed spinach was spectacular, served in a cast iron side car and brimming with spinach, garlic and cream. But this was not creamed spinach like a purée; the individual elements were distinguishable from each other and it was just fantastic. And then there was the steak. After I tried it, I considered stealing it. It was medium rare with plenty of pink, yet super tender and incredibly flavorful. The marinade came through clearly and yet the mushrooms on top still worked with the marinade. Just a great dish. So we are two for two on our bucket list, and we have to revisit Old Fields again soon. Next time the Skirt Steak will be all mine.

I travel often for work and recently found myself on Long Island with a serious consideration: to drive roughly 3 hours round-trip to dine in the city, or to stay local. I can now say without reservation that my decision to dine at the nearby Old Fields was the greatest success of this most recent visit to NY. The entire staff is friendly and helps each other, from the front door to the management. As their guest, this created a spectacular experience from start to finish. The servers are extremely knowledgable but approachable. The atmosphere is on point and the food was delicious. Shortly after ordering, the manager delivered a complimentary portion of French Onion soup — the stock used as a base was beyond words. All while listening to some of my favorite classic rock jams. The only constructive criticism I have is for the chef: If it isn’t helping your menu, it’s not helping your reputation for incredible food. And most aspects of everything I ordered WERE incredible. Specifically, I noticed the following… Bleu cheese on the mixed greens was not moist/aromatic enough to add to the dish. Asparagus was slightly over-cooked I had a steak marinaded in signature 1956 that was heavily in need of salt. All of this to say: if you’re on Long Island, make the drive. If you’re in NYC, make the drive. It will be well worth your while. Thanks, all!

I love this place. Good food, good drinks, good service; it all worked. We came here around 8pm on a Saturday night during restaurant week. The menu peaked my interest very quickly and I knew we needed to eat here. The place was paaaacked. Good sign! We were told our wait would be 45 minutes. Lucky for us after about 10 minutes a couple left the bar and we sat down and decided to dine there. The bartender was very attentive. I was impressed especially since it was quite busy. The service was great. I started with the ghost julep and my fiancé had the apricot wheat beer. Both of our drinks were top notch. Mine was especially good. For appetizers we ordered the shrimp and grits and the maple bacon. The shrimp and grits were incredible. The grits were especially good and paired well with the sauce and was able to sop up all the deliciousness. The shrimp were a tad overcooked but it was still amazing. The portion was also quite large. My fiancé’s bacon was good. The portion was small but it was cooked perfectly. Our entrees were just as exciting. My fiancé had the duck pot pie and loved it. He ate the entire thing and was sad when it was gone. I stole 1 bite but I’m not crazy about curry so I might now be the best judge. I ordered the ribeye. On the actual menu I noticed that this dish is usually $ 40. For the restaurant week menu it was only a $ 10 upcharge and it was beyond worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly. It had a beautiful charred crust on the outside and the meat inside was perfectly rare. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were delicious. This was the best steak I’ve ever had. We also shared the mac and cheese and holy cow was it good. For dessert we sampled the bread pudding and the smores sundae. The bread pudding was must more mashed up than I’m used to but it was delicious none-the-less. The smores brownie was kind of a bust. The brownie was too sweet and then paired with the marshmallow fluff in the ice cream it was just cloying. A shame really. There are so many more things on the menu I need to try!
