Mediocre food — mediocre service. Nothing that makes us want to rush back to. SUCH a shame as it’s got a great vibe and good location and layout. What a shame

I love going to char bar 7. They have different specials going on throughout the week and the food is fantastic, and fairly priced. I love the tacos myself but the burgers are delicious too. My boyfriend and I try to go whenever out schedules allow :)

I have eaten here several times and really enjoy this place. I love the patio. It has a huge fireplace and comfortable sofa-seating. There are plenty of tables which are weather-protected when necessary. Half-price bottles on Wednesday, very nice beer selection, awesome salads, and the best fried pickles any where make this one of my go-to places. If you, like me, tried char bar soon after it opened and weren’t impressed, try it again. It took them a little while to get going, but I think they’ve hit their stride.

I’ve heard good things about Char Bar 7, and got the chance to see for myself on a recent Friday night. It was pretty late, they were just getting off the wait, so my expectations of service were not that high. But they really delivered. We were quickly seated on the patio, ordered a nice Sauvignon Blanc, which arrived quickly. Friendly and attentive service was evident not just at our table, but observed everywhere. I ordered one of their«Signature Salads», the new Grilled Shrimp Salad, which the menu described as having spring mix, avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, and jicama. The jicama in particular caught my eye, as it’s an unusual ingredient, and a vegetable I really like. Unfortunately, no jicama or cilantro arrived in my salad, but it was still very good. When I alerted the Server and the Manager about it, they confirmed that they were out of jicama, which should have been disclosed. The kitchen probably thought nobody would notice, since many people don’t even know what it is. But otherwise I was pleased, and will return. The atmosphere is sophisticated without being stuffy. They have 4 locations in the Charlotte, Greensboro, and Asheville areas, with another one coming soon in Southern Pines. Maybe I’ll get a chance to visit one of those! And maybe they’ll have jicama in stock ;).

The two times I’ve been here have each been for a date night. My girlfriend brought me here after being referred by a coworker and I was definitely thankful they refereed her here. The first time I came I ordered a bacon cheddar burger and devoured the entire thing in one sitting. I also got a drink which was just strong enough for my liking. The second time I came for appetizers and a drink. I got the fried pickles which I am a major fan of and will probably get every time I come here. I love the service received and I love the fireplace and the comfy couches you have the option to sit on. It’s definitely a nicer version of a sports bar compared to most sports bars in the area.

Char Bar 7 is essentially an «upscale» sports bar, which is to say, not my kinda place. I personally don’t want to watch seven different TVs at once, and besides, I think their food is uninteresting, expensive, and in some cases downright bad-tasting. Here is what I tried: On my first visit I tried the Bomber($ 12.50, comes with a side), an awfully pricy sandwich containing shaved ribeye, provolone, grilled salami, caramelized onions, a slice of tomato, and chipotle mayo on a pretzel bun. Overall the sandwich wasn’t bad — it’s pretty much a twist on a steak and cheese after all — but there were several clear shortcomings. First, the beef was somewhat wet, and tasted boiled instead of seared. My suspicion is that the shavings were all cooked together on the grill in a pile such that they steamed in their juices instead of browning(easily fixed if so). Additionally, the caramelized onions weren’t actually caramelized — they were cooked, but a far cry from the real deal. Still, it was the pretzel bun that was the most unlikable aspect of this sandwich. Stale and plasticky, it tasted like a desiccated microwave pretzel that came from the supermarket freezer case. If the meat and onions were cooked properly and the pretzel replaced by a brioche bun, they’d have a seriously tasty sandwich to offer; but what I ate I wouldn’t return for, especially at this price. On my second visit my girlfriend and I started with an order of the Blackened Chicken Nachos($ 5.85/$ 9.85), and boy was this a lousy way to start. These were almost certainly the worst nachos I’ve ever had. I sent back the first plate because it was cold, and the remake wasn’t any warmer. The processed«queso» cheese was awful, tasting worse than the liquid cheese-from-a-pump you might expect at a movie theater. The chicken was chalky and bland, and the beans and tomatoes strewn about the plate did nothing to enliven this crunchy detritus. We were left only hoping that our displeasure would serve to warn others against this sad excuse for an appetizer. Thankfully, I can say that my entrée, the Honey Chipotle Pork Chops($ 14.65), was much more palatable. Although my chops were tough and overdone(I ordered them cooked medium), their sweet and smoky flavor was actually pretty appealing. This dish is served with two sides, and I chose their seasonal vegetable, broccolini, as well as mushroom risotto. The broccolini was good except that the stalks were undercooked and woody. The mushroom risotto was decent but kind of reminded me of mushroom gravy. Overall my meal wasn’t too bad, but it would have been considerably better had it been cooked properly. In the end, Char Bar 7 lacks appeal. Their food is for the most part unsatisying, and it’s expensive to boot. I would strongly suggest you pass on CB7.

This has become our neighborhood GoTo! We typically sit up at the bar and enjoy the blackened chicken nachos, wings, and craft beer! Looking forward to using the patio more as the temps hear up. It’s a great bar with a great atmosphere!

I have been recently working in Greensboro quite often lately. Finding a good place for lunch was easy once we found Char Bar. We have been frequenting this place everyday for lunch. So much that when we walk in, they know the booth we like to sit at all the time. I’ve tried many plates here. Today, and also the last time I was there, I had the Chicken Philly special with broccoli as my side which is what I get always. I don’t know what they do to it but it is amazing. Much better than having fries. The chicken philly is delicious. Melted seasoned cheese and caramelized onions on a hero. So good and fills me up just right. The place is great with all the televisions all around. You can enjoy watching all the sports on all the channels. The waitress was cool enough one time to change the channel for me so I can watch some cartoons. Yeah. I still enjoy cartoons. Nothing wrong with that. Anyway. The staff are great. They are quick and courteous every time we are there. The bar looks great too. Perfect place to hang out, have a drink, and enjoy a good meal.

This is one of our favorite places. The bartenders are always great and the food is always fresh, tasty and quick. We’ve never had a bad meal here.

Liked the oldies music and reasonable service… staff made intelligent suggestions of items… specials, the BLT for 7.50 with sides was good… plenty of bacon that was hanging out of the edges, which I like to see. Seems that burgers are the main item, at least at lunch. The sides, broccoli cooked with garlic was tasty… nice feel, lots of tv… so Sports Bar feel. The outside area is nice looking. When business brings me back to South Carolina area, i will probably go back.

Had lunch here today and sat on the cozy patio with a firing roaring in the huge fireplace. Great, comfy space to enjoy lunch. The fish and chips were outstanding! The fish was flaky and cooked perfectly and the batter crunchy and seasoned well. The fries were perfect and I loved their blue cheese coleslaw with bits of blue cheese throughout. You have to love blue cheese to like this version but I loved it! My friend got the fried fish tacos and said they were awesome too. Our server was super sweet and attentive. Still a bit pricey but worth every $$.

With other locations in Charlotte, Asheville, and Matthews, Char Bar 7 may soon be a familiar name statewide. But if the Greensboro location is anything to go by, this may be a case where familiarity breeds contempt. Housed at the end of a shopping plaza, Char Bar 7 is spacious and stylish but devoid of much charm. Inside this upscale sports bar, you will find plenty of televisions and a surprisingly manageable noise level(even the requisite bass thudding in the background wasn’t too obtrusive) but a lack of a person touch. Some establishments remind you of home or of an exotic locale; Char Bar 7 calls to mind a focus group. After being seated by a bored-looking hostess, it took several minutes of awkwardly sitting around for a waitress to notice us. Fortunately, the server we did end up with, Christine(or was it Christina?), proved to be upbeat and provided helpful answers to a few questions. Char Bar 7’s menu, while limited, had plenty of appeal: everything from steaks and ribs to mahi tacos and shortrib risotto. Burgers called the loudest though, and so we opted for a Texas brisket burger(cheddar, onion rings, and sauce), a CB7(blue cheese slaw, bacon, Swiss, and sauce on a pretzel roll), and an order of hot pretzels to start. The food proved to be a largely underwhelming experience. Though our app came quickly and the pretzels were satisfyingly fresh and hot, there were a mere medium-sized two of them for $ 4.65, accompanied by an unpleasantly processed-tasting queso. The wait for the burgers was substantially longer, but that can be perhaps chalked up to a large group that came in after us rather than a slow kitchen. Still, the results were inconsistent to say the least. The meat seemed to be of good quality and it paired well with the sauce but it had little flavor in and of itself. The same could be said for the fries: they were hot and crisp, but they desperately needed salt. The pretzel bun on the CB7 burger, however, was a limp and chewy disappointment. At $ 10+ per, the burgers here need to be a lot more impressive to compete, especially in this town. To say that there is no compelling reason for CB7’s existence would be an overstatement: it’s cleaner and shinier than a neighborhood sports bar, and its menu is well-suited to its concept. However, poor bang for the buck coupled with mediocre food do give plenty of incentive to turn elsewhere.

Went to the restaurant for some burgers. I had the blue cheese burger and my wife had their classic. My blue cheese burger was one of the worse pieces of food I have ever had. The meat was dry and overlooked and the bun, which they tried to pass off as a pretzel bun, was as hard as a hockey puck. My wife’s was okay-nothing special. While the manger came over and apologized and took the item off the bill the damage was done. A couple next to us overheard our conversation with the manager and told us their dinner was cold. If this restaurant wants to stay open they better get their act together SOON or they will not be open long

I’ve had this spot bookmarked for a while now and I was very excited to give it a shot. I really like the layout and atmosphere of the place. It was very relaxing given that it was a bar. Our server was VERY nice and appropriately attentive. He didn’t hover or start telling us his life story nor was he constantly absent or aloof. He was friendly and had great suggestions. I’m always happy when a place serves Duck Rabbit beer because it’s by far my favorite. We tried the soft pretzels for an appetizer. They were coldly cold and what I assumed was butter had made it almost difficult to pull apart because it was so slippery. It was decent tasting but it would have been better if they were hot. I ordered the Leap Year Burger. The bacon was very tasty and the over easy egg was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Yet another place that is able to cook an over-easy egg properly… imagine that. What my issue was was the burger itself. The burger wasn’t seasoned enough for my liking. If it hadn’t been for the toppings then I’m not sure I could’ve eaten as much as I did. In fact when I got down to the last several bites I just took the toppings off and ate them without the burger. The burger is the star of the dish… which means you have to season it right. You can’t let the toppings serve as the seasoning. The sweet potato tater tots were a very nice touch. I also had the pumpkin cheese cake and that was a big hit. Overall, it was a decent experience. I was severely underwhelmed with the food in general but the burger was a big disappointment. Without the excellent service this may have been a 2 star review.

I’ve been to Char Bar 7 a few times. I think it’s a cool place to dine or have a drink. There are plenty of television screens and the staff is great. The food is ok but the portions are plentiful. I think the ambiance is the draw for me. Tonight, I tried the Sirloin Steak Salad. The steak was perfectly cooked but the blue cheese crumbles were inconsistent in size and the vinaigrette was just ok. Overall, I like Char Bar 7 though.

Ate there for the 3rd time today with family. I had a burger, son had the salmon and wife had the thai salad. All were quite good, but even with being open for a while seems they still have some kinks to work out. For example, I ordered my burger done medium, and it was very red in center, and not just a little red. Obviously medium rare. Also, I ordered tots with my burger and got fries. These little things are not deal breakers, but it shows that they’re not quite there yet. Value in pricing vs food portions was mixed. Salmon piece was quite small for price while salad portion was quite generous. In all, it’s a nice place to eat, but nothing to knock your socks off while leaving you a bit disappointed in the service/kitchen accuracy.

I wasn’t impressed. I was so excited to try this place… we needed a nice date night restaurant, you know, a step above the place you take your kids to, yet with the potential for a fun night with the friends… but I was quite disappointed. The restaurant itself is in a nice location with an outdoor dining area that any competitor should be jealous of. The service was good. The wait staff was quite attentive, knew the menu and were honest about their favorite and not so favorite dishes, which I genuinely appreciate. The inside of the restaurant is hardly inviting, but very spacious, there is plenty of room for a large gathering. As for the food, it definitely wasn’t fresh, fresh frozen, maybe. I had the fish and chips, it looked pretty, but fell flat. What looked like a sizeable portion, ended up more breading than fish. The fish was really wet and«garnished» with some sprigs of parsley on top that was just so out of place, more of an annoyance to pick off than a nice little addition to the dish. The fries were definitely frozen, so hot to the touch, but the inside just warm. I got the regular fries rather than the chip fries because the chips just looked like a tv dinner side. When so many restaurants in town make their own fresh chips, they just don’t work. I WILL say that my husband got a burger and thought it was quite good, just not for the price. I usually like to try a place twice before I review it and perhaps I’m not being fair by not doing so in this instance, but what bothers me most about this place is that I’m not sure there is anything in this restaurant that wasn’t frozen before it touched my plate, or anyone else’s.

Char Bar 7 is basically an upscale sports bar, with an upscale pub food menu, with menu pricing reflective of that: $ 10 — $ 12 Burgers, $ 8.75 Hot Dog, $ 12 — $ 14 Salads, & $ 14 Fish & Chips. This place may have a bit of an identity problem — too pricey for the average sports bar aficionado, a little too loud and crowded for an upscale, sit down meal. The piped in music plays loudly in the back ground, even at lunch. The restaurant is stylishly appointed with a very modern look and feel. The bar is long and sleek, also very attractive. The covered area for outside seating is also upscale, with a stone fireplace and a couch area facing it. The entire place has style, but really kind of short on personality, and as I mentioned, identity. We tried 4 items — a Hot Dog with Tots($ 8.95), a Classic Burger with FFs($ 9.95), a Southwest Salad($ 12.25), and a Sirloin Salad($ 13.95). The Hot Dog included a Hebrew National wiener, and was loaded with chili and slaw, to the point that the bun came apart. This is not at all a bad hot dog(the chili is pretty good), but at this price and with the construction problems(I don’t care to eat a hot dog with a knife and fork), this would not be in line for a re-order. The burger was well sized, the lettuce and tomato were fresh tasting, but the beef was lacking in flavor. Considering the pricing and burgers available elsewhere in town, this would not be a re-order either. The french fries were good, but were under seasoned, the tatter tots pretty much taking the same path. The Sirloin Salad was very good, though the marinated mushrooms did not really add anything. The 5 ounces of sirloin was excellent in both taste an texture, and perfectly cooked. The remainder of this large salad came together very well, with the fried onion straws(actually rings) adding a nice taste and crunch. The Southwestern Salad was also large, and also very good. The BBQ Chicken was very flavorful, mating well with black beans, corn, pico de gallo, tortilla strips, and pepper jack cheese, and finished off nicely by an excellent spicy Ranch Dressing. Both of these salads would be re-orders, and there are several others that look good. I love Fish & Chips, and I love a Fish Sandwich, and though a bit pricey, I might give them a try. All in all, this is not a restaurant we’d visit on a regular basis, though I could easily see us having a meal or two here with my sons, or my brother and his wife. The food is good to very good, but the overall quality doesn’t support the pricing — all 4 of the items we sampled are available nearby at a better value, and with equal or better taste, and in several cases, much better taste.

Decided to come check it out after a recommendation from some friend of ours. First thing I noticed were the light fixtures. Very steam punk atmosphere. Prices were fair 10 dollar plates on average with steaks under 20. They have burgers and seafood as well. Server was very nice and attentive. They have a patio area but it was raining while I was there. I think I will have to come try it for lunch.
