I was in the area visiting a client, it was Fried Chicken Thursday. I like fried chicken, so Spring Valley Restaurant for lunch it was! This place has been around forever it seems, and is one of the few, long standing, old school, mom & pop diners/cafes we have left in Greensboro — along with Coliseum Café, Oakcrest Family Restaurant, Bayside Seafood, Carolina’s Diners, and maybe a few more. To fall into this group, imo, you gotta offer home cooked meat &2’s, and more than just Hamburger Steak and Chicken Tenders. The food here is strictly small café Southern, always solid, and some items are way better than that — like their Fried Chicken(your call on whether white or dark meat). The chicken is not cooked to order(they fried in anticipation of your order), so the coating is not as crispy as some places, but the taste is there, well seasoned with a slight hint of greasiness. The sides are rather average, perhaps a bit under-seasoned. The biscuits are very large, and have excellent flavor, good at breakfast or lunch. The folks here have been the same forever it seems, both in the kitchen and on the dining room floor — always cheerful, friendly, and efficient. It does get crowded at times, and a bit loud, but you come here for the food anyway. They will call you Honey, and you will like it!

Talk about a hidden gem in Greensboro! This place is an established Greensboro diner and we are sad that we didn’t come sooner. Went for breakfast and it was a bustling dinning room filled with biscuits, coffee and sausage gravy. There biscuits are no joke-size of a softball and a meal within themselves! Can’t wait to go back for the fried chicken!

The line out the door speaks for itself. This was our first time here and we loved it. They have a very simple menu with standard fair, but it’s done well. And it’s cheap. Maybe even the cheapest breakfast place in Greensboro. Homemade biscuits and sausage gravy are great. Eggs cooked perfectly. And they were slammed during our time there, which made the timing and freshness of fed food all the more impressive. Very warm and welcoming service as well as other patrons. We will be back!

Local secret here. Been around for years. Amazing breakfast! Never had lunch, but I now Thursday is fried chicken day and the line is in the parking lot. If in from out of town do drop in for breakfast and lunch. Be aware there is a large crowd of old men that hang around during mornings, that just means it’s good. Strike up a convo and gain some wisdom from an old timer.

Food two stars, service and feel like family 10 stars– I know it only goes to five stars. Soon as you walk into the restaurant you feel like family. My first time there and I enjoyed the people. It’s just a down home place to eat normal food. Nothing fancy or expensive. A gem of a place. The food wasn’t that good. This morning I had grits, ham, sausage gravy, and eggs. The ham was too salty for me to finish. Eggs were scrambled too hard. Toast and grits were fine. The gravy needed more seasoning. I would go back when I’m in town because the atmosphere, price, and service were wonderful. I will give it another chances and hope the same wonderful people are still there when I return. I would update the place but then you at risk losing the down home feel.

Filling, cheap, friendly and fast! What more could you ask for in a breakfast place. Frequent coffee refills and humongous portions of pancakes, huge biscuits and delicious bacon and sausage. No wonder this place is a regular haunt of so many.

Great place for a really good breakfast. They have an amazing tenderloin breakfast and the pancakes are pretty big as well. Cheap prices and friendly staff that provide excellent service. We will be back soon and often.

I’ve been going for years! If you like home cooking, especially breakfast, this is the place for you. As stated on other reviews don’t let a line out the door turn you away. The turnover is usually quick and think about it, people don’t stand in line for nothing. Frank may sit behind the register but he runs a well oiled machine. I may be watching Anthony Bourdain in Paris on TV right now but I’m Jonesin’ for a tenderloin breakfast at Spring Valley!

You know other than the small dining room, this place really knows what they are doing. Staff was super sweet and very friendly. I looked them up and said I had to try it so I did. I could not have picked a better choice. They serve breakfast on Saturday until Noon. The food is on point and I mean that. Not very often do you find places that have such great service, quality and hospitality under one roof. The biscuits are home made and are huge but have to be better than any I have had(other than my Grandma’s) the food itself just has great taste and you can tell when something is cooked with care. As I said the dining area is a bit cramped but for the quality and service I could care less. I really enjoyed myself and can’t wait to make it back soon.

Thursday is fried chicken day, don’t come here unless you want to be hooked on the best fried chicken ever! Better get here before 12 also. Friday? Flounder day, cud gracious! Service is spectacular, food is great, prices are right! Note: B-line from your car to the restaurant, otherwise lot lizards will ask for money or cigarettes, location isn’t the greatest, my only QUAM! Happy dining!

I have been going to this place ever since I was little and it is still one of the best places in Greensboro to eat for breakfast or lunch. Notice that it is CONTINUALLY packed if that tells you anything. The food is good and the service is good. End Of Story.

All I’m going to say is wow! This place was recommended to me for breakfast by a local. Scratch made biscuits and gravy are over the top! Closest thing to home cooking you’ll ever get! The waitresses treat you like they’ve known you all of your life. Great breakfast and reasonably priced.

I have been to this older table service restaurant on several occasions. Although it’s crowded they have plenty of seating in booths and table it’s on a smaller scale than most places these days as this place is from a different era. All of the staff here seem very nice and make sure you have what you need and definetely make you feel like a valued costumer. The breakfast I’ve had here is good. I decide to try the salmon croquettes for lunch. They were good and crispy with pintos for a reasonable price! By the serving counter is a sign that reads«This isn’t Burger King so you’ll have it my way!» Which is just fine with me!

A good alternative to Carolina Diner and a little more like home cooking. The biscuits are great and the servers always friendly.

This breakfast fare is great. Sure Country Barbecue makes the biggest and best tenderloin biscuits in the universe but Spring Valley takes their tenderloin biscuit and will cover it with the most mouth watering gravy even your Mama can’t make. For me this supercedes the rest of the pack. The have grits and every other thing you want for a great breakfast. The Lunch menu is changed daily. All the entrée’s are very good country cooking like you like it. The staff has been there for years. If there is a line don’t worry as the tables turn rather quickly and it is worth the wait.
