Apparently I am old. I have fond memories of good customer service being the norm, not the exception. What passes for service now would have gotten me fired back in the day when I worked in restaurants. Having said all that, this place is in keeping with the norm as regards service to its customers. Counter person watched me walk toward her, then picked up phone and talked for a good 4 or 5 minutes. Ordinarily that would have made me turn around and walk out, but the heat and already found parking spot kept me inside. I had a taste for a decent burger. This one, with fries and a Barqs cost over 10 $. A little steep I thought. Til I got it home and ate it. De-lish! Charbroiled burger cooked to med, with fresh lettuce red onion and pickle. On a bun that registered in the perfect range of substance, size and sesame seeds. French fries that were so good I ate them all. Okay Iron Gate Grill. I’ll deal with the shitty service for another of those burgers. Where else in the Point/Gretna area is there for such deliciousness? And the price? A steal for that good of a hamburger. Plus the cook smiled and said thank you as I left. That forgave a host of sins.

The Iron Gate is a casual restaurant located in an old house on Huey P. Long. Their menu has sandwiches, seafood, salads and soups. There are three or four separate rooms with tables and each room has a TV. We ordered a shrimp platter and a seafood platter. The platters come with a side salad, fries and bread. The food is very reasonable. My shrimp platter was only $ 10 and was loaded with at least 15 – 20 small shrimp. The shrimp were OK, but seemed a tad overcooked. My dining companion’s seafood platter was reported to be great, especially the oysters. Service was very friendly. We placed our order at the counter and it was delivered to our table. This is a good location convenient to Gretna City Hall and the courthouses. While my meal wasn’t perfect, I do recommend it for lunch and will return.
