At a good price, hearty menu choices and perfectly cooked steak teriyaki this place was pretty good. It’s a hole in the wall per se but worth it. My husband and I are avid sushi eaters and the quality of the food was great. I’m surely about to be put in a food coma. It’s quiet but no so spacious like other larger counterparts but after reading the reviews on Google, it was worth the drive. They even give you a card that when you spend certain amount they give you a stamp. That’s pretty cool compared to other places’ loyalty programs. If your are in the Groton area, come here for fresh, tasty sushi at a reasonable price.

Good sushi at a very fair price. Staff is friendly and service is good. Order the black magic roll of you like eel. It’s fantastic. Really fresh fish and great presentation. Also amazing happy hour specials. Definitely worth coming back to

Have the Pork ramen. It’s a great choice for a cold day. The broth is quite savory and fits perfectly with the The location is nice it’s small, service is great. My wife had the chicken hibachi which was quite a generous portion.

Only tried some simple rolls and ramen. The rolls were well-balanced and fresh. The ramen was fine. Nothing special. This is a relatively new restaurant and I’m afraid it may not last long because the place was empty — never good for a place serving raw fish.

The food is alright, not impressive. The sushi buffet only offers rolls. One star because the service is awful. Attitude waitress doesn’t refill drinks when they’re empty even though all other restaurants do it when it’s half full.

Recent visit to this place was bad. I was seated at the table, no one came to take any order for drink or tea for 10 minutes.(It was a half full.) That is sinful for any restaurant. I have walked out and never return to this place.

Kaenyama’s sushi is fresh and tasty with reasonable pricing! This made my husband and I extremely happy considering how much we missed the quality of our normal sushi place back home in California! This is our new favorite«go to» sushi place here in Groton! :]

We went back to Kaenyama for a second time today, and I am sure glad we did! The quality is MUCH improved. We had two bento box lunches — one chicken and one steak. Both had just the right amount of seasoning and sauce, and both meats were cooked perfectly, and were not over– or underdone. Rice had no funny flavor to it this time; shumai was good. Next time I go back I will try the sushi.

Excellent Sushi and Hibachi — visited with my family, and everyone was very satisfied(and full) after the meal. Miso soup, salad and starters were great. The sushi, which was very creatively named, was excellent as well. Impeccable presentation and service, with very reasonable pricing. We also got to benefit from their great specials — $ 1 beers(even hard to find Asian varieties) and discounted appetizers. This is a 30 min drive from home, but totally worth it. Perfect for a quiet romantic dinner, or cozy family outing. Highly recommended, will definitely revisit!

The Mrs. and I have dined here twice so far, and the food, ambience, and service is top notch! The Sushi/Sashimi Combo Platter is a must, and the Tako Yaki reminds me of when I had the same in Japan. Everything is fresh and tasty! The sashimi melts in your mouth and the portions are priced very well. There are no Teppanyaki grills making a clatter of noise, the lights are low, the place is cozy and romantic. We could drive 20 minutes down the road to the other place, or we can drive two minutes from home right here. The food IS that good, and this restaurant will give the other sushi houses a good run for their money indeed.

We came here for the first time looking to try something new and we were definitely not disappointed! We had miso soup, the gyoza, sashimi, and sushi. The fish was so fresh it melted in the mouth and the service was quick and so friendly. I even have to say I liked kaenyama more than sushi Kawa. I already can’t wait to go back!

For a newly opened spot, it seems to have its stuff together. Good prices, $ 1 beers on saturdays, good sushi. When i went it was very empty, might be a good little spot like that. I hope its here for good.

I had an awesome experience here. The server was very attentive and provided excellent service. The food was very good! We tried the steak and shrimp hibachi. Which came with a choice of soup or salad. We also ordered their special roll Togo. We loved the hibachi sauce! They served us complimentary ice cream for Johnny’s birthday.

Best tasting sushi in the area. If you believe sushi is about the fish, you are wrong. It’s all about the rice, and they have seasoned it perfectly. The sushi rolls are packed with a little bit more ingredients, compared to competitors, so you are getting the best bang for your buck. The staff is super friendly and the dining area is cozy.

Heard about this place through the grapevine on the newly opened food scene choices. We gave them about two weeks to get the major kinks ironed out, and tonight, we made our way over to see how they compare to the Hibachis of our past. Kaenyama took the place of an old Mediterranean market/restaurant that quietly closed and was remodeled to its current state. Grand opening flags and 15%off signs alert passers by of their presence and encourage hungry shoppers to duck in. We arrived around 6:30 tonight, a Saturday, and yet we were the only diners there. We were alerted that they still didn’t have their liquor license, but we were encouraged to buy some if we wished, at the store a few doors down, and we wouldn’t be charged a corkage fee. We weren’t dissuaded, and continued through to the menu. We opted for a little variety, so we started with the Spicy Tuna Roll($ 5.75), and both chose Hibachi; he picked the Chicken(14.95), and I did the Steak and Chicken Combo($ 20.95). The tuna roll was like nothing I have ever tried, and was made by a roll of spicy tuna that was tempura-ed, and then wrapped in nori and sushi rice. This was ok, but not the flavors I wanted. Our entrees came with miso and a starter salad, the miso was chock full of sea weed, more than I have ever encountered in my life, and the salad had the largest and most difficult to eat pieces of lettuce ever as well. My husband’s entrée came with rice, and mine was supposed to be well done steak with noodles. The steak came to the table medium rare and bleeding, and the chef forgot the noodles, which were brought to us afterwords. The rice was sparcely seasoned, with awkwardly large lumps of egg, which my husband said he thought tasted like they were powdered. Once the waitress saw that we weren’t enjoying our food, she brought us what I call an apology dessert, which at this place was a tempura-ed scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was decent but oily. The best part of this experience, besides their 15% off, was the waitress’s honest inquiry on what they needed to do differently to make the meal better, and we did give them our feedback. I hope them the best, but they will need to make more changes than slicing their lettuce smaller to make it successfully in groton.

Kaenyama is a new sushi and hibachi in Groton CT. The place is a little small but I find it cozy and the staff was very attentive. We got the kaenyama roll, spider roll, and a plate of hibachi steak. Everything was good but my favorite is the kaenyama roll. If you’re in the area definitely check it out.

Really enjoyed our first visit to this new sushi house. Best fried tofu ever! Do not miss this delicacy. Everything was good. Gyoza was very solid. Kids loved the crab rangoon. Whoever is working the tempura fryer in the kitchen has really refined their skills. Truly excellent! The sushi was very respectable. I asked for the chef to make his own selections, and this worked extremely well. I especially liked the Sexy Girl and Paradise Rolls! We finished with mochi ice cream. Different! The service was excellent. Very attentive without being over bearing. Love this new place, which is an excellent addition(upgrade?) to the Groton restaurant scene.
