We stopped by and paid 15 dollars for 4 chicken wings and some rice with a few orange slices. She said she was hooking us up… More like ripping us off.

After driving around the island over the course of 5 days and experiencing a lot of the good local eats, I would be remiss to not recommend stopping here on the drive to Hana. For $ 20 you get a heaping amount of fresh smoked BBQ atop a bed of white rice, roasted sweet potatoes, a grilled banana, and pineapple salad served on a banana leaf. I personally thought the chicken was the star of the show, but the pork was also very good and had a nice glaze on it. The owners/cooks were very nice people and gave us a generous amount of food to share. You can hang out and eat in the covered picnic table area, which wasn’t super clean, but who really cares? You’re eating in the jungle after all, and the view can’t be beat. I plan on staying in Hana for at least a few days on my next trip, and will definitely come back here for more Hawaiian BBQ.

First the good, the food is great. Tastey barbeque includes chicken shrimp pork, salmon, etc. and the best bbq banana ever. Now the bad… The place should be called Lord of the Flies BBQ. Why? There are flies everywhere, especially on the dirty minimalist tables riddled with the left over food of customers past, which provide a feast for ubiquitous swarms of flies. The other reason is you are on your own once you are handed a large bamboo shoot full of tempting food that is enough for three people.(My hubby and I ordered two of these the cook could’ve spoke up!). Prices were not clearly posted btw. So $ 20×2 = $ 40 for lunch that could have fed 6 people! The other problem is no napkins, nothing to drink and no facilities whatsoever. If you ask for napkins you are referred to a filthy community towel and if you ask for water or a sink you are referred to a large plastic jug of water referred to as the sink. So to sum it up, food great but you are really going native.

Lets play«The Price is Right» on the road to Hana… Alright first up: Two pieces of BBQ/grilled chicken, rice, little bit of fern salad, and a delicious creative desert banana… On a cute on a banana leaf/Or whatever leaf it was with bamboo chop stix. $ 6…$ 8…$ 12…$ 15??? Wrong! The actual retail value is…$ 20…Yes that is correct and this the«large» that can feed two people. If you like sharing small scoops of rice, splitting small portions of veggie sides, and get full from one piece of chicken. I wanted to like this place, but I feel like I got ripped off. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind paying sometimes for quality or paying extra for to support someone’s business but as much chicken as I have eaten I don’t recall paying $ 20 for two pieces, even if the sign says«Da best». I wasn’t offered a lower priced option so I not sure if there was? They did have pork available that day that wasn’t ready. The food is just okay, can’t say much more than that for the price I paid. I just have a hard time when similar items at other places go for so much cheaper than this.

The dad/mom/little kid that run this place are so cute. And they make delicious barbeque — Chicken, pork, and sometimes ribs. They also have a home made banana bread($ 5) and water($ 1). Barbeque comes in 2 sizes: Small and large. Large is $ 20 and is probably enough for 3 people. It comes in a piece of bamboo with a banana leaf, on top of rice, and you get to eat it with homemade bamboo chop sticks! So nice, crispy, sweet, yet soft and complicated. It comes with a side of salad, which seemed like a fern salad to us. It was a yummy alternative to salads I’ve had in the past! Definitely worth the stop… Though, I bet they’re open only some days :).
