Honestly, I want to give this event five stars but the WEATHER was terrible and the visibility of the signs were confusing for some parts of the run path. Check in was a breeze, just state my name and I was given a Sports Authority paper bag of stickers, teapresso bar drink card, buy 1 get one free jamba juice coupon, and advertisements for other runs and this run my bf and I took part in. The headlamp they give you is pretty dim. Nice to see dancers with their glow in the dark hula hoops with the band playing christmas songs as the rain continue to come back on and off. The first mile was confusing. About 10 to 20 people went the wrong way and we both did too. We had to turn back and follow the arrow sign. It’s a good thing we both brought flashlights since the headlamps were worthless to see the ground. Before we reached 1 mile, a lady tripped and fell down and got several cuts and bruises. My light came in handy for that woman to check out the status of her leg while her friend helped her. I feel without the rain, the event would be more enjoyable. When it rained, we stood underneath the big tree in the Haleiwa Beach park or under the tent for the registration and booths. No one stayed until the end of the race to enjoy the booths because it rained so hard. I did not see any other race participants in sight. Before we made it to the finish line, one of the volunteers told my bf that he was the smartest participant in the race because he was the only one with an umbrella. We wore jackets as well, kept us dry for the most part. Have fun since it is the holiday season and is the time with friends and loved ones. BIG thank you to EMI and the Unilocal team for providing these tickets and another mahalo for whoever canceled their RSVP or I would not have gone to this event. At least I can say I took part in this run for a good cause(juvenile diabetes). :)

Much Mahalo to Unilocal Hawaii! Thank you for tickets to the NiteRun! My family had a great time, it was a truly wonderful experience! This is mines/family’s first time going to Haleiwa beach, its a nice beach! We had fun hanging at Pearlridge during the day before heading out to Haleiwa side. It fun filled day with the family! Checking in was simple! We got our T-shirts, night light, & nice yellow recycle bag. I was looking for the Unilocal tent or any Unilocalers but wasn’t sure who was from Unilocal. We could take a photo with Santa, I saw the Unilocal logo on their banner.(Cool!!) There were 3 booths of goodies–(free) Fruits, cotton candy, popcorn, & drinks. Drinks were Honest Tea & water(from Coca Cola) Before the Race, there was entertainment,(Live Band & dancers) Prior to the Race, the DJ went over the rules & info. on the race. As we started the race, it was pretty easy! I thought to myself that I can do this! Towards the middle to the end, it got harder with the sand & area being so dark. I was getting scared! Also scared, worried, & paranoid because my kiddos(17&13) went ahead first. I wanted us to walk together, but I guess me being toooo slow, it was my fault. I’m glad my hubby stayed with me! As we entered the finish line, we got a light up necklace for finishing the walk. This is such a good cause to benefit Juvenile diabetes. My mother & late mother in law has diabetes. Overall we had such a great time! My husband & kids thanked me for signing up for this event. I give my credit to Unilocal! Thanks Unilocal Hawaii! For the wonderful hook up! One thing, we didn’t dress up for contest!

«You want me to wear what, race with it, while pushing two kids in a jogging stroller?,» whined my husband. Although I was met with much hesitation my continuous asking(aka nagging) worked. Fortunately my kids still enjoy dressing up. My oldest was a candy cane, my middle a snow man, and my youngest a running snow flake. No problem there. Yeah, I persuaded(required) my husband to wear a beard, a Santa hat, and while pushing two kids in the sand w/a jogging stroller. I was Mrs. Santa Claus. As a family we have participated in different walk/runs but we all agree that the nite run at Haliewa was one of the most enjoyable. Why? 1. It’s at night. * Even though we were all dressed in costume it was much more bearable since the sun wasn’t beaming down on us. 2. There were a handful of things for the kids to do while we waited for the race to begin and afterwards. ALLFREE! * Bouncy House * Cotton Candy * Picture taking with Santa at a photo booth(taken by photo ops Hawaii) * Popcorn * Snow Ice(Snow Factory truck located in Haliewa) * Drinks 3. Cool Entertainment * Fire! Fire! Fire! If you live in Hawaii I’m sure you’ve seen a fire knife dancer before. But have you seen someone hula hoop with flames? What about with flaming poi balls? It was incredible to watch. * Local singing performers singing original music. 4) The Course * Some parts it was pretty dark(I would suggest to bring a good flash light) * On the beach * Some parts were really dark. My kids loved it! Looking up at the stars, hearing the waves crash, and seeing other peoples nice lighted up costumes made it all the more memorable for us. 5) The Schwag * We came towards the end of registration so they ran out of the Haliewa Nite Run Shirts(We scored 2) and they gave us 3 other ones from the previous runs. The shirts were printed from Bella. The material is soft and more form fitting for the ladies. * Each of us scored a head lamp. * At the beginning of the race they gave us glow sticks. * At the end of the race we were given glowing necklaces from JDRF(a charity with a mission to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes) — proceeds from this run benefited this charity. 6) The costume contest * I enjoy having an excuse to dress up. * It was nice to see others joining in on the fun. * My family placed for best costume for Mr. and Mrs. Claus and best for Candy Cane. :) We had a blast and plan to participate again. Crossing my fingers they make the next nite run at the Leeward Side of the island.
