$ 1 Taco Tuesdays Very tasty with just the right kick! !! Got there around 6pm and hardly a 10 minute wait. Worth the drive! !!! My family and I were all satisfied with 4 tacos each. Looking forward to trying other menu items on our next visit.

I ordered a chicken burrito with no onions. Seems pretty simple yet for some reason they can never seem to get it right. This time I had about half an onion in the burrito. So disappointing. We also asked for chips and salsa and it was not in the bag either. The wait time was half an hour which would have been fine if they would just get the order right.

I ordered through the phone today the special of the day, one of my all time favorite dishes of great Spanish cuisine= chilies rellenos. Delicious, filling, authentic and the salsa they gave me on the side is how I know a good mexican spot still exisits. Thank God on the north shore, I’ll definitely be back to this awesome family owned operation!

Living on Oahu there aren’t a ton of great choices for Mexican food, luckily this little gem on wheels is one! Having first heard of them from a friend when they were in Mililani, we soon followed them to their new location out in Haleiwa. It only makes sense for them to be around a surfing tourist area like Haleiwa town, happy for their success. The food is always fresh and made to order, salsa and chips are given as you wait. I love simple quesadillas made with quality meat and tons of cheese. The side of beans and Spanish rice are well made and there’s nothing to complain about with a happy tummy! Since it is quite a drive out here we have to make it worth it and before we head back on the road we grab some to go orders for dinner or a snack later on. Seating is around back, parking is in a shared lot with other food trucks. Don’t hesitate make a trip here next time your on the North shore or craving some awesome food truck Mexican!

YASSS this place is amaze! I first visited the lunch/dinnerwagon in Mililani near the 24 Hour Fitness. I went with a couple of friends to experience $ 1 Taco Tuesdays. Even if they sucked, nothing can beat a dollar(Except for Jack in the Box, of course). But man were my expectations blow out of the water! We tried their pork, steak, and chicken tacos. All were amazing. There’s just no other way to describe it. You will have no regrets. Just try them. My favorite would be the steak, but again, they are all life-changing. We got adventurous after that and also ordered a beef chimichanga. Holy Holy! This was hands down the best chimichanga I have ever had in my entire life. That doesn’t mean much, because I don’t get to eat good Mexican food very often, but woah. Just woah. And then to really get you sailing off into food heaven, get the tres leches. Just do it. It’s basically white cake with cream all over. Sounds fattening? Well, duh. But happiness supersedes in this case. And you will leave… VERY happy. Although Haleiwa is a far drive for most of us, I would still recommend sacrificing some gas and trekking out here. You won’t be disappointed!

Just stop here and gorge yourself with some amazing Mexican food in Hawaii, fresh guac and salsa for days and days! It is a food truck but they have a great place to sit outdoors with some beautiful peaceful views.

Oh, I’m so sad I took this place for granted. They were in Mililani for such a long time, I figured I’d be able to go any time. Alas, they moved to the North Shore, which is a lot further away… Of course, that won’t keep me away. It will just make that trip to the north shore that much sweeter(spicier, actually). This place is my favorite Mexican food place. The staff is friendly and the food is great. I haven’t had anything bad. In fact, I find myself wanting to drive to Haleiwa for one of their gigantic burritos right now. If you go early enough, you won’t have to wait very long. But if you’re not so lucky, the wait can be as long as 30 minutes. Such is the price for delicious, hot food. They do kindly offer free chips and salsa while you wait. The salsa is fresh and spicy, just how I like it. The spiciness can be a bit much for some, so here’s fair warning if you’re not used to that kind of heat. The tacos come with a generous amount of filling(get the pork!) and you can get it with soft or crispy shell. Both are tasty, so you can’t go wrong with either choice. The burritos here are awesome. To me, they’re huge. I could barely eat half of it, so I took it home and had it for lunch AND dinner the next day. My favorite is the fajita burrito, it’s stuffed with meat and vegetables, sour cream, guacamole, and beans and cheese. It’s not wonder I couldn’t finish it. The food was perfect after checking out the waves at the beach. A tip: If you find yourself in Haleiwa on a Tuesday evening, go for their $ 1 taco special and their elotes with everything on it. If I could, I’d live of off their elotes. It’s so yummy. If you’re not in a rush and want good quality food, Surf N Salsa’s is definitely worth the drive and wait time.

Omg. This place is awesome and authentic. Handmade corn tortillas outta this world and some of the best habanero salsa I’ve had. Haleiwa has a gem in this truck, and I for one will be frequenting it often.

What a sweet find! I just ate there two days in a row. The fresh salsa is super good with just the right heat and all the tacos rock. I came back for Taco Tuesday — when they offer tacos for a dollar. Let’s just say I ate 9 of those bad boys and did so in like 3 minutes.(I know, the picture only shows 8. I literally ate the first one while he was making the rest of em) I could have went for more but had to save myself for second dinner later that night. Awesome and cheap — a kick ass combo!

We’re from California and have had PLENTY of Hispanic food over the years. This place has restaurant quality Mexican food. VERY tasty!!! Plus, fantastic service. Chips and salsa while you wait as well. This is where the locals go for great Mexican food. They are popular, so be prepared to wait 15 – 20 minutes. It IS worth it if you’re craving wonderful Hispanic cuisine. My wife got the crispy tacos. They were filled with steak and superbly made. I got the chipotle burrito and wanted another! We can envision this place becoming a wonderful brick-and-mortar establishment. P. S. After our meal, we ordered more to take home for the next day!

Seriously, the best on the island. We’ve been missing all the Mexican food from back home in Southern California. We tried many Mexican places on the island and this has been our favorite… by far! The service is good, the owners are friendly, and the food is awesome! They even have a nice sized, clean seating area outside. Gracias, Surf n Salsa!

After my last review the manager responded and offered to replace my meal and even give me a refund. He addressed all of my concerns. I decided to go today for my meal and got three steak tacos, a horchata, and chips and salsa. This was my first time ever trying horchata and I so enjoyed! It was delicious. My tacos were equally as delicious and I was given a huge coffee cup of salsa and a full bag of chips! I was very pleased with my service and the lady at the counter knew who I was and got my meal out quickly. The chips were hot and salsa was just as good as the first time. My husband, who doesn’t even like Mexican food, said the tacos were good and wanted more. I was full after just eating the three tacos. The owner is definitely there to meet your needs and will gladly replace anything you are not happy with. The staff is very friendly and I can definitely say I’ll be back again to try something new on their menu next time.

Finally got to try this place after reading all the reviews and driving past the truck in the Mililani. We came on a Friday night, about half an hour before they closed. Luckily there were hardly any people and didn’t have to wait in line to order. I ordered their chicken tacos that came with rice and refried beans. The beans tasted almost like chili… it was so good! The rice was also flavorful and tasted good when I mixed the two together. The taco plate came with two tacos. It was garnished with a lot of cilantro and onions. If you are not a fan of cilantro I would not suggest getting the tacos. The chicken was marinated so well that the juices seeped through the tortilla. I had a difficult time eating it after the tortilla broke. Lol. While we waited for our food they offered us chips & salsa. Their salsa was SPICY. And by spicy… I mean so spicy that we had to buy a soda to tolerate the spice haha. I am definitely a fan of this truck and will be back to try something different.

I might need to give this a second chance. Because it doesn’t take 25 minutes to get a burrito, they could’ve had an off day though. They did realize that they were taking long and towards the end of the wait, they gave us chips and salsa. I had the California burrito, thinking I would give it a taste test since I’m from Cali. The pros: a lot of meat, it was jammed back with meat and it was a size able burrito. Cons: since there was so much meat, it lacked sour cream and gauc. The steak overwhelmed in taste and it was quite salty. The other items on the menu still looks good, so I will need to try this place a second time. I just can’t come starving because the wait time is quite long and there were only 2 people in front of me.

I am constantly on the hunt for tasty Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. My friends and I tried the poblano chicken meal(with rice and beans), chicken quesadilla, and the carne asada fries. Together, with three Jaritos Mexican sodas, our total was right around $ 45. It was all delicious! The most delightful surprise is the cute little outdoor patio they have created behind the truck. It’s all decked out with colorful garland and plants to set the mood while you munch on complimentary chips and salsa as your food is cooked to order. Definitely recommended for a meal stop if you’re headed to the north shore!

California native here, and although I have no Mexican blood. I swear I could’ve been Mexican in my past life because of my absolute obsession with Mexican food. Because I pride myself on being honest and critical I’m going to start with a few issues… 1. Ease of ordering– the girl running the front was taking phone orders while there was a line of us in the front. Take care of your customers in the flesh first. 2. The iPhone connected to the external speakers bumping Latin top 40 hits was consistently receiving phone calls. While this didn’t bother me too much it can easily be fixed. 3. I paid extra for guac and didn’t get it.(I had to ask for it and it came out quickly and was the best I’ve had on the island). 4. When I paid with credit card, the girl asked me what the total was after I signed it. Huh? Highlights: 1. Salsa– boom! Most flavorful salsa I’ve had in a long time. 2. We wanted nachos and they weren’t on the menu. The girl taking orders asked the owner and he said yes. Wow, the ratio of everything was super generous and I’m convinced there was a queso, but not too overpowering. I hope they will make it again/add it to the menu because it was an absolute stand out! 3. The pork– I love shredded chicken and it was super good but there was something special about the pork for sure. 4. Handmade corn tortillas– what? The only other place I’ve seen handmade tortillas offered was in San Diego. The deep fried corn tortilla taco was a stand out. Other places on the mainland call them puffy tacos and it was magical. 5. Customer service– the issues above were quickly forgotten by the genuine aloha from the staff. 6. Cute dining area– I’ve never been to a food truck with a quaint thoughtful dining area in the back. It was decorated super cute, had a great comfortable vibe. I’m so happy that I didn’t give up on Mexican food on the island of O’ahu. I’m sad that I’m going to want to drive to Mililani everyday for delicious 5 star Mexican food. Can’t wait to go back!

So I decided to give this place another try and I am glad that I did. For best results, CALLYOURORDERIN! I ordered what I had the last time, the chicken chimichanga plate, a pork taco, and a horchata. I was also given some salsa on the side. The chicken chimichanga was perfectly cooked. The chicken had a lot of flavor and there was just enough cheese inside. The rice and beans that came with it was cooked perfectly and had good flavor. The pork taco was divine! It was so juicy and packed full of flavor! It had a lot of cilantro on it, which normally I don’t like cilantro at all, but somehow it was just perfect together… and with a fresh lime squeezed on top of it, it was just YUM!!! The salsa was sooo good! I put a little on my food, not realizing that it was hot! Even though it had some heat, it had really good flavor. Jhon explained to me that the horchata is made fresh from soaking the rice and whatnot, but it just tastes different than when my husband does it. After considering that it is not made from powder, I give him props on his horchata. It tastes ok… you can taste the rice and vanilla I think with just a hint of cinnamon. I just prefer mine with a little more cinnamon flavor and sugar. They actually moved within that little parking area. I think it’s a lot better actually. Doesn’t create as much of a traffic jam trying to get to it. So, I give this place a solid 4 stars for taste and customer service!

I finally got a chance to come here and eat. I must say the food is delicious!!! I ordered the Sopes plate with beans and rice. First time ever eating that and really enjoyed it. They have covered patio area in the back where you can dine in. In the front of the truck they have bottle sodas but not your typical soda, more traditional Mexican type pop. Because each order is made to order, your food takes a while especially if they are busy. It’s best to call ahead and before heading down. They do give you home made chips and salsa while you wait. I’ll be back to try the tacos.

A few days ago, I went back to Surfin’ Salsa to try some more dishes. I honestly wanted to have the«Surf & Turf» Burrito again, but I had to stop myself. This time, I tried the Steak en Fuego and the Taco Salad(steak) and washed it down with a bottle of mango Jarrito’s. The Steak en Fuego literally made my mouth water. The bite size pieces of steak were lean, but very juicy and flavorful. It had huge slices of jalepenos made the dish perfect for me. It came with a side of Mexican rice and refried beans. I was given a choice to get either the refried beans or the black beans, but I love their refried version. It came topped with cheddar and Queso Fresco cheeses. Again, the rice and beans were perfectly seasoned and not dry. This proved to me that their food is consistently good. The Taco Salad was really fresh, too. The guacamole was made with quality avocados and you could tell there weren’t any fillers in it. The meat was similar to the meat that was in the Steak en Fuego. A lot of places that serve taco salad don’t always use quality meat, but again, Surfin’ Salsa doesn’t skimp. The thing I loved the most about the dish was the taco shell. It was flaky just as it was with the chimichangas. It held up while I was eating, but was also soft and didn’t make me feel like it was going to crack a tooth. Again, we received a side of fresh chips and salsa. This time, it was really busy, but we didn’t really notice. Everyone was taken care of in a timely manner. My friend said their«Cali» Burrito is her favorite, so I’m definitely going to try it next time. I encourage everyone to be gracious and patient when it comes to their food orders. This isn’t really«fast food» where things come out of boxes/packages. The staff really want to satisfy their patrons and make everyone happy. I’ve gone three times already and I’ve always been met with smiles, delicious food and exceptional customer service. I highly recommend this place to everyone who loves Mexican food. TIP: They take phone orders, so if you want to take food to-go or order ahead and eat it there afterwards, you can. If you buy drinks there, they’ll open the bottles for you and give you cups of ice, so buy a bottle or two of Jarrito’s soda to drink with your meal. If you get something like the Steak en Fuego or anything with sliced peppers, you may want to ask the staff to make it less spicy for you. They should be more than willing to accommodate you.

It was back in January of 2014 when i was putting gas at Mililani Chevron i looked to my right and i saw this Lunch Wagon parked right out in front and was very curious to see who the new kid on the block was, and Lo and Behold it was a Mexican Food Truck called Surfin Salsa. I would say that it was a pretty unusual name for a Mexican Food Truck but i was curious to see what they had to offer. Now if you think i’m a Mexican Food Expert, i am not even close to being one but i am a Taco Bell Whore but that doesn’t even count as Authentic Mexican food if you ask me. So as i was looking at their limited but intriguing menu, a very kind man from the Food Truck greeted me and asked me if this was my first time here. I told him this was my first time thinking about eating real authentic Mexican Food and he offered me some Chips and Salsa to try while looking at the menu. It was love at first crunch for me as i was hooked once i put some salsa on those home made chips. The Salsa had just the right kick and the flavors and seasoning were just incredible even though i’m really not a big fan of Cilantro. The man’s name is Jhon and all i can say is that he left a lasting impression on me as he was guiding me through his very interesting menu which only a true Mexican Food Lover can appreciate. What i truly love about a Truck like this is that it’s a Family run business and you can tell they put their Heart & Soul into their cooking and it’s about as authentic as Mexican fare can get. The thing that scared me about this place is that it wouldn’t last more than a year considering most food trucks that were parked right in front of Chevron never panned out to say the least and i really was hoping for the best that this place would survive and evolve into a place that not only Mililani resident’s would welcome with open arms but being that this location is close to Schofield Army Base is truly a blessing because when you see Hispanic’s in Army Fatigue’s flock to this place made me feel better about this place making it in a tough market. But it’s been almost two years now and Surfin Salsa is riding the wave of success and actually have moved down next to an Auto Detail popup and they also have put some tables and a covered area so people can enjoy this amazing food that the Acuna Family whips up each and every day and seeing this puts me at ease knowing that they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon unless they think about opening a real dine in Restaurant in the near future. Now the past few times i’ve been here i have ordered the Pork Chimichanga’s or Deep Fried Burrito’s. I know it sounds so simple, but let me tell you, these Chimichanga’s are cooked to perfection and putting that Salsa and Guacamole for an extra charge is just downright orgasmic. And eating these perfectly cooked Chimichanga’s with the Rice and Refried Beans take this dish to elevated levels of sheer foodie ecstacy. I will tell you something about Surfin Salsa. This ain’t fast food ok? Don’t expect your food to come out lightning fast because the food here is made to order and depending on how busy they are, it’s all a roll of the dice here. The only mistake i made was coming here on Cinco de Mayo and let’s just say i will never come here on an occasion like this ever again. Lesson learned but in a good way. There was just way too many people there on that day and i should’ve just gone another day. All i can say is that i am truly lucky to live in the Mililani area because we have more than just one stellar place to go for authentic Mexican fare here in the 96789 so my advice to those townies out there that you have to come out on this side of the island to try some Mexican food that will make you yearn for more. But if you do, make sure you call Jhon and ask him what day’s they are open because these hours of operation aren’t set in stone and it would be a crying shame if you weren’t able to partake in such amazing food. Once again a diamond in the rough emerges and shines bright here in Mililani. Thanks again Mr Acuna for blessing us with some really amazing food. I can tell you this, there is nothing on this limited Menu that won’t disappoint you.

This review is coming from a person that lived in San Jose for a number of years and has eaten unbelievable Mexican food there. This place is good. What could be elevated a lot more is the seasoning on the chicken and steak. I found both of them to be a little on the bland side. I put a little lime over them since they had it on the plate. I love soft tacos and I would say that everything except the main ingredient was fine and tasty. The service is great here and the free salsa and chips were a nice touch. I found the chips to be very dry but the salsa was good. Can’t complain much for free stuff. The service was fast and the food was fine. I may try it again when time permits. The cost of the tacos are about twice as much as I paid in the Bay Area but this could be the high cost of Honolulu. I haven’t tried that many Mexican places here on Oahu — will have to see if any other places can nail the taste. Until then this place gets close.

I think Surfin’ Salsa just dethroned Serg’s in my books as best Mexican Food on Oahu. Don’t get me wrong, I still like Serg’s, but Surfin Salsa has brought flavors which made my so-cal tastebuds sing! Their homemade salsa has the perfect amount of heat and their horchata is SO delicious(not overly sweet)! On my first visit, I tried their Surf & Turf Burrito. The shrimps were surprisingly large. The burrito was huge. I was full about 2⁄3 of the way through. My bf had the CA Burrito, which we found to be slightly salty(we would order it again and ask them not to salt the fries). On our second visit, we had their delicious $ 2 Al Pastor Tacos, which were a special for the night. Oh my! I had 2 tacos and I was in a blissful state! On my most recent trek there with Thomas O. we had enough food for 4 people. LOL, but we are both huge fans of Surfin’ Salsa. I ordered the El Gordo Burrito special and decided to live large by making it wet(enchilada sauce on top). It was such a beast-I was able to only finish half of it. We each had an empanada. These are special pockets of goodness. The exterior is different from the empanadas which I’ve eaten before-they taste more like a tamale? I enjoyed it. I also snuck in a bit of Thomas’ Chimichanga… wow! The crispiness of the tortilla was delicious. I was too full to tackle our ceviche tostada… But I definitely plan on coming back :) The folks who run the truck are so cheerful and down to earth. They have a steady stream of customers who flock to the truck. Everyone leaves with huge grins on their faces. Yet another reason why I love supporting local! You can find out about their specials either via Instagram or Facebook. Credit cards accepted. There is a slight wait for food, but know that it is made fresh to order.

DONTGOHERE… why? IT’S TOOAUTHENTIC! IT’S TOOAMAZING! IT’S TOODELICIOUS! YOUWILLBECOMEADDICTED! YOUWILLMAKETHELINELONGER! PLEASE…DONTGO… I love Mexican food… no, I am addicted to Mexican food. I firmly believe I was hispanic in a previous life… because I cant get enough of it… if it’s legit. And thus lies my problem… Being from Socal, I took Mexican food for granted… torta milanesa, tacos dorados de buche, y birria de chivo were commonplace and easy to come by. Not in Hawaii. I have eaten at several ‘restaurants’ on the island and have been disappointed. Yes, maybe I am picky, yes maybe I am used to certain flavors, but still I was disappointed. I had almost given up, when a friend recommended this ‘stationary’ lunch wagon on the backside of the shopping center. Yeah…I’m home. Here’s why… The make the tortillas when you order… from actual masa… The make their drinks… try the hibiscus and the tamarindo… They make the pork… not carnitas… cochinita pibil. Do you know how hard it is to make cochinita pibil?!? It’s hard just to say it! The sopes are perfect… really great texture… soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The shell for the taco salad is a deep fried flour tortilla, as it should be. And the salsa, is perfectly homemade. So please, don’t go…

One of my missions, every time I come out here, is to find real Mexican food. My cousin told me about this place after I posted taco shop food pics from San Diego(she lived there at one point and was jealous). We were staying out in Haleiwa and since we needed to go to Mililani, we decided to stop here… and we’re so glad we did! Me: Who’s from California? She: We’re from L.A. Me: We’re from San Diego They have a good selection of food choices. The partner ordered a California burrito… a person from California in Hawaii eating a California burrito… LOL! I opted for the Asada Fries… which is a staple in San Diego and a good way to put them to the test… and they passed! This place is legit! Tender carne asada over crispy fries and tasty guacamole! We also got some complimentary chips and salsa, which were both made in house. I know it’s a bit of a drive, but if you are seriously craving that SoCal Mexican taco stand fix, this is the place to go! Mucho gracias mi nuevo amigos!
