The playlist was 90s awesome! Alanis, Pearl Jam, ohhhh good stuff. Wait times were a bit lengthy, but the place was packed. We were able to get a table quickly, as well as 2 high chairs which was a relief since we had two HUNGRY toddlers. I was rushing to order so didn’t really take a thorough look at the menu but the tacos were delicious! Had a bit of kick to them too. You didn’t miss the meat. Even my hubby that looked at me at the register in a bit of shock asking«wait, is this a vegetarian restaurant?» enjoyed his pizza, thin cracker crust and all. Both kids loved the quesadilla off the kids menu and the smoothie(I think it was strawberry banana and other healthy stuff). Let me tell you, finding something that both kids like is like waking up and finding a unicorn on my lawn. I’d definitely return, and I think my meat loving husband and picky toddlers would enjoy a return visit as well!

This is my all time favorite place to eat. When we lived in Honolulu we came to the north shore just to eat here. All of our visitors loved it, too. Now that we live in Portland, Oregon with the most vegan restaurants, nothing comes close to The Beet Box for me. It’s a gem.

I have to be fair food is really good here! Love the acai bowls each one of them is velvety, crunchy nutritiously good, hands down best in the island. We love the avocado toast is our favorite one. The healthy plate will not disappoint. Hello burger is just delicious homemade veggie burger served with onions cucumbers, arugula on a wheat bun, with a side of steamed kale you can add cheese for $ 1.50 more ! Food overall is constantly delicious. I wish I can go and eat every single day over there, but service is iffy one of the cashiers is just awful I can’t believe she still work there, owners don’t seem very friendly or engaged to provide a better costumer experience. Service is big part of the restaurant experience, happy people makes happy costumers! And don’t think prices are cheap because is not your average food place, healthy means $$$$

Great vegan place! The place get pretty full fast and the lines are long. Best time to get in is around 11 – 11:30AM for lunch. You have to order upfront and they bring the food to your table. There are a couple of outdoor seating spots, but the chances of getting one of these spots are pretty low. Food is great but the service is iffy. Looks like they’ve run out of turmeric and the person who was taking order told me that they were looking for a new supplier. So any drink with turmeric will have a substitute(like extra ginger). The Thai tacos were pretty small. However the burritos were pretty good sized and offer more bang for the buck. They had run out of Mexican tortilla soup today so that was a bummer. The fresh juices are a must. I really enjoyed the Aloha. Great place overall and we will be back.

Nice having a vegan-friendly go-to place on the North Shore. The line can be long, the wait for food can be long, but I’ve been coming here for years and it’s generally worth it. I don’t get all the corny Lionel Ritchie décor, and I don’t get charging $ 13 for a GF bagel with avo on it, and I recently got zen tofu scramble breakfast, which was basically a bit of tofu and veggies in a TON of shoyu. But the 3 Little Birds and many of the smoothies are quite yummy.

Yes… Yes… YES. One of the best vegan spots on O’ahu hands down. We ate lunch here after spending a nice afternoon at the beach. I ordered the Burrito Babe, and Kevin had the Healthy Plate of Food. Both were amazing, delicious, and filling. Price-wise, this place is a bit more spendy. We spent about $ 50(including tip, two entrees, and two smoothies). I didn’t get to try the Acai Bowl but they looked delicious when the server brought them out to the table near us. Definitely a must-try whether you’re vegan or a meat lover.

I came back, after last week’s rather dismal service… only because the line was out the door at Haleiwa Café across the street. I would give this place a minus star review, if such is a choice. I will definitely not come back here ever again. Sad… it was such a great experience to eat there when it was at the back of a dilapidated structure! The sullen server from last week was still there to bring us our food. She came in on her«day off» apparently. She dropped a piece of bread on the floor and some vegetable from the plate on the table… did not pick up the bread on the floor, nor did she bring more to replace the bread she dropped. I get better service in Asia, when I a tenth of the cost here. This server should not be in the service industry. To top it off, the wall behind us were crawling with cockroaches. I saw 7 of them running about. I heard the owner is home with a baby. Unfortunate. I for one, will not be coming to eat here ever again. I hope the owner dial in soon… you may not have a business to come back to. Next time… I will wait for a table to open at Haleiwa Café, however long the wait.

This is the first vegan place that made me want more! My friend and I wanted to try something different, and I’m always down for that. But she’s a vegetarian(not really, but she try’s to keep away from red meat) so we checked out what’s new on Unilocal. We found a few places in town, but since we live on the west side and heard some good reviews on this place we decided to check it out. It was a bit hard to find the place at first and I didn’t like the parking cause I felt iffy about it but oh wells, we was hungry! I liked the vibe I got from this place. Felt so homey and vey welcoming. Plus the seats had Lionel Richie pillows, how cute is that. While waiting to order I was looking and I love burgers and wanted to see there interpretation of it. I forgot what burger I got but my friend and I got the two burgers they offered only on the menu, and we loved it!!! I felt like I wanted to eat more but that was my eyes talking. I knew I was satisfied and full from it. I licked my plate clean! Definitely going back! I recommend everyone to try it. I never thought I would like the place. But this place was the first to make me reconsider on going vegan for a bit.

I usually never give 1-star reviews but this was unfriendliness on a new level. The two girls working here were a catastrophe and ruined our lunch. Completely rude and we never saw even the hint of a smile on their faces. It appeared to me that they even treated the other girls working in the kitchen badly. I had the Hello burger which was very dry so I asked whether they had something similar to Ketchup. The answer was a dry, short couldn’t-care-less No.(How about: No, but we could get you some sauce XY…) I didn’t dare eat the kale that came with the burger because of the other review with the worms inside. Won’t be back and won’t recommend this place to anyone. First time that we encountered such unfriendly people in Hawaii!

The interior is pretty, the atmosphere is nice and the food was awesome. My MIL was visiting and wanted to try a place with healthy food and lots of fruit on the menu, so we found The Beet Box Café. I’m vegetarian but don’t really like a lot of popular vegetarian foods, but I got the cacao acai bowl and it was amazing and very filling. The only downside for me was the noise but I know there’s not really anything they can do about the blenders being loud. We all liked it, definitely going back.

I come here whenever I’m in Haleiwa, and I do enjoy the food. However, today I had the worst experience from the food, to the service. Ordering 3 Three Little Birds amongst other things, and taking it ToGo for our Mother’s Day picnic. As I already ate half of my sand-which I decided to put the Kale that was on the side which I wanted to sub for rice and beans(which I didn’t get) to put in my other half. Well picking at the kale, I found a Worm! Starting to look through the rest of it, I found 3 others! Including webs. I made a call, and it was my mistake to not ask who I was talking to. She said they wash the kale thoroughly(obviously not), then questioned me to my where shouts and what I did with the food before eating it, as if I purposely put worms in my food! For one, you don’t blame the customer nor do you question them or even fight the fact they obviously didn’t do their job in cleaning their food before serving it! Two, my family was already halfway through their plates. If it wasn’t for me finding these worms, they wouldn’t have looked through there’s. & guess what, they found in theirs as well! Who knows how much worms they could’ve eaten without knowing. No one should have to look through their food before eating.

I love their new location & would highly recommend The Beet Box Café if you’re looking for a healthy yet tasty meal. The décor, the service and the food is well worth a trip to the North Shore. I ordered their«Hello» Burger, which is a homemade veggie burger w/arugula, pickled onions, garlic aioli and dijon. This is the second time I’ve had this. It is absolutely one of the best veggie burgers I have ever eaten. What makes it the best is that it is homemade w/beets and not the usual frozen black bean burgers you find @ most restaurants like Chili’s, The Shack & Buffalo Wild Wings. If I’m not mistaken, I swear they all use the same brand/vendor. Don’t get me wrong, the black bean patties aren’t bad at all, but nothing compares to homemade. If you’re wondering why the burger is called«Hello», it’s because their theme is Lionel Richie. I do not know the back story to this but I think I will research it to find out why. They also have throw pillows with Lionel Richie’s face, which is kind of cute & adds to the décor. They also have a chalkboard built into the wall for the keiki to entertain themselves with(chalk included). Cute! My only negative is that you need a key for the restroom. I personally do not like handling something that everyone touches, especially if it is to go to the bathroom. Overall, the great food outweighs my personal issues with the bathroom key, so Five Stars it is!

This is our first time at The Beet Box Café and we are new fans! They use local and organic produce and they have vegan & gluten free options. Love the boost, pictured here which is a fresh juice of apple, carrot, ginger, romaine, lemon & tumeric. If you want something heavier, try the Mexicali Blues! Sooooo good.

I feel like I walked into a vegetarian hipster yogi’s brain whenever I come here. My wife is exactly that, so we come here every time we come to the North Shore as part of our food crawl. Although I lean more towards the carnivore end of the food spectrum, I have to reluctantly admit that their food is actually quite tasty. I enjoy their various Acai and Pitaya bowls that are flavorful and not too sweet. Their vegetarian burritos are also filling and delicious. Today I Tried their breakfast sandwich with Egg. It had a generous amount of sprouts and egg. They were out of their signature Love sauce, but it was still pretty good. Their new location is a HUGE upgrade from their previous location and just next door…(as to not disrupt the order of our North Shore food crawl). Definitely a good spot for a healthy brunch/lunch.

Where do old reviews go to die? A couple of years ago I penned a 5-star review of The Beet Box Café when it was lodged in its former location, the rear of an old school health food shop in Haleiwa. They’ve now moved into a larger site a few doors down but where did all of their great, earlier reviews go? Some things are mysteries that can’t be solved. The new Beet Box Café has no signage, only their name on the window. Unless you’re searching for them you’ll likely miss them entirely but if you’re looking for an excellent, casual vegetarian(or vegan or gluten-free) meal you should seek them out. Other than the new digs and the fact that they now serve dinner too, not much has changed. They continue to slap deliciously tangy, addictive aioli(garlic, chipotle) onto their dishes and continue to serve food that leaves you feeling virtuous. As a creature of habit I ordered the same lyrically inspired sandwich I had on my last visit. The«3 Little Birds»($ 12.25) is a tasty throwback to good, old school natural food: Toasted multi-grain bread smothered with chipotle aioli, Sizzlin’ Fakin’ Bacon, avocado, tomato, carrots, red onions, and gloriously robust sunflower sprouts. The menu promised a side of steamed kale but the actual accompaniment was an ample, tasty salad. The«Healthy Plate of Food»($ 13.50 with egg topper) was as promised, reminding me of the sort of meals I created as a SoCal teenager: Garlic, ginger, onion, red peppers, broccoli, zucchini, black beans, brown rice, and more. The plateful was delicious and sharing it and the sandwich between two diners was a perfect choice. Next time though, let’s see if they can serve that sunny-side up egg with a runny yolk, as desired, and possibly offer up some fresh salsa(tabasco is the only hot sauce offered). A starter(or «smaller fare» per the menu) of Avocado Toast($ 6) was the sort of thing that needs to be shared by two lest it completely satiate you. Sitting atop a fresh, thick, warm whole-wheat pita with a lathering of that garlic aioli, this is simply delicious; umami at its finest. No alcohol is served here but you’re free to bring in beer or wine, at no mark-up, which can be purchased across the street. Last time here I’d arrived after a punishing hike, starving and ripe for indulgence. This time I’d not amassed such a hunger but Beet Box satisfied me just as fully. With food this good they’ve no reason to hide; I hope they get some decent signage soon as this is a place that people deserve to know of.

Enjoyed this spot so much, we visited twice! Once for dinner and then again for breakfast a couple of days later. On our dinner visit, we went with some extended family who live in Waialua who thought my husband and I would enjoy this café. Dinnertime was not crowded for a Thursday(no reservation needed) and BYOB with no corking fee. The menu is 100% vegetarian/vegan with dishes ranging from the super healthy«Lovely Vegan Bowl»(which I ordered) to a rich/delicious gnocchi(which the husband ordered). We shared the potato croquettes as an appetizer. Our server, Macy, was fantastic and even recognized our family from their previous visit. Everyone seem super pleased with what they ordered. Two days later, my husband and I went back to check out breakfast. I had the Mexicali Blues(added soyrizo) and husband had the«What’s for Breakfast» breakfast sandwich. They nailed the flavors in my dish, which was like a wholesome version of Migas(eggs with tortilla chips). The added cheese was caramelized and along with the chips, lent a nice crunch. I had a bite of husband’s(huge) breakfast sando and it had some really great flavor as well(I think from their«famous spicy love sauce», which had a curry flavor). I also had a hibiscus mint iced tea(unsweetened, like I like it) then we shared a Himalayas smoothie for the road(which was tasty but some of the nuts weren’t quite processed all the way so the straw kept clogging up). I have a lot of respect for places that don’t rely on meat for flavor while still offering wholesome, approachable dishes that appeal to the masses. A great spot amidst some of the more mediocre/touristy restaurants in Haleiwa!

Okay I didn’t write a review after the last time but I’m sitting here waiting for my food and feel compelled to now. The last time we came here for dinner we walked in to do a takeout order and waited for just over an HOUR for our food. We watched as several people who came to dine-in were served before us. Phone orders were picked up before us. We thought we were going to save time by picking up the food to-go but boy were we wrong. I thought his may have been a fluke and we were just unlucky but I was telling a friend about what happened and she said the same thing happened to her and her boyfriend. Now I’m here again(which will be the last time I think) and this is what happened: we walked in for lunch and there was a short line. We waited to order and as it was our turn a girl steps up to us and says she was told to cut in line to pay for her phone-order. We willingly obliged. Then her friend who also had a phone-order steps in to pay(without saying/asking) and we let it go. And as I see a third girl waiting to do the same, an employee tells the cashier to step aside so he can take care of this girl’s payment. We allow that… and behind her a fourth girl is waiting to pay! We had to say something as there were 6 people in line behind us and people were grumbling. So we ask the guy if we can just get our order in before she pays. And he looks at Us like We’re being the a-holes here. What?! Needless to say we did not leave a tip, not will we ever be coming to eat here again. As locals this used to be one of our favorite spots to eat… back when it was at Celestial. I think maybe this is all happening because Marlys isn’t around to keep everyone in line. Such a bummer. Au revoir Beetbox. Oh, and of course this is an alias that I use.

LOVED this 100% vegetarian spot on the North Shore. We drove up to check out the big wave surfers and when I searched Unilocal for a dinner spot, this popped up and was a no-brainer. The only problem was I couldn’t decide what to order — I wanted it all! We ended up getting the avocado tacos and the gnocchi, both of which were SO good. I was afraid the cilantro aioli on the tacos would be too much as I hate cilantro, but it was actually quite delicious! The gnocchi could’ve done without so much crushed red pepper as I thought it overpowered the mushroom flavor, but it was still really tasty. For dessert we had the lemon meringue pie which was the only less-than-great part of the meal. The meringue itself was just perfect but the pie filling was too curdy for me… it could definitely have used some smoothing out. The other thing was that they were sold out of two appetizers — the brussels sprouts and potato croquettes — and those happened to be the two appys I was eyeing! Big fat bummer. It seemed to me a trend that these smaller restaurants on Oahu run out of their most popular items, as it happened to us 4 times in the course of 9 days! I guess that just means I’ll have to make another trip to Hawaii… poor me!

I came to the new location with high hopes after being very disappointed and put off at the old one. The grumpy ladies are still there but they did themselves a favor and got some friendly cashiers :) the prices are still very high, which will keep me from coming back but the beet box salad I had was really yummy and the young lady who took my order was sweet. One big improvement was their wait time, my salad was ready in under 5 min.

For a vegetarian and vegan visiting Hawaii for the first time, we were a bit nervous about our dining options. We enjoyed an incredibly tasty dinner at Beet Box. My fiancé is vegan and I’m vegetarian, so we started with the stuffed mushrooms(made vegan) and they were fantastic. I could have eaten a few more of those for dinner and been satisfied. He got the cauliflower steak and I got the tempura avocado tacos. Both just divine. There was a bit of confusion with the dessert, as they had something labeled chocolate walnut cookie in the dessert case and it said it was vegan. Turned out they had labeled the wrong cookie and were out of that, so he skipped dessert while I had a macadamia nut brownie. They had an issue with the ice cream and mine was a bit melted, but that was ok with me. The staff was friendly, the ambience is warm and inviting. We leave for home tomorrow, but are hoping to get in for breakfast in the morning before we head out :)

Super happy that Beet Box expanded to a bigger location! The food has always been delicious, healthy, and full of flavor, but the interior of the prior spot left a lot to be imagined. It was tight, cramped, and tucked in a tiny space in the back of the health foods store. It was dusty and the bathroom was just a little closet space. It wasn’t the cleanest or nicest place. Long lines to order food formed around diners and it just made the sit-down experience pretty uncomfortable at times. However I’m so happy to report that this new location is beautiful and completely the opposite!!! The kitchen is still open but it’s huge! There are tons of tables now and the walls are decorated with incredible local art for sale. The dining room is just gorgeous now. The bathroom is also much larger and more comfortable. The food is the same delicious and nutritious fare that they had at the previous location. There are many small places like Beet Box that are so well-loved, I wish they would expand so I am so happy that Beet Box was able to. I will surely be back here on every visit to the North Shore. This is THE best place for vegetarian/vegan food on the island!

The first time I came here I ordered a burrito. It was bland as bland could be. Bland rice, bland beans, bland avocado, and an overly sweet mango salsa with no acidity to balance it out and no salt. That warrants 1 – 2 stars. They did however make a really yummy fresh green juice I rate 4 stars. I decided to come back and try their Hello vegan burger. 5 stars for this one. It was amazing! Delicious. By far my favorite. It does come with a side of steamed kale. Which I rate 1 star. It was bland again. No dressing. No salt. Nothing to spruce it up. Just flat out plain kale. And it’s not like I could put it in my burger that was filled with delicious flavors and arugula. Also I had their blueberry muffin which was vegan and not dry at all. Yumm.

Such a cute place! I had a vegan friend in town and we went to have breakfast. I tried the aloha juice, avocado toast and acai bowl. Everything was super delicious and fresh. My friend also got a platter with veggies, rice, beans and tofu as an egg substitute. It was flavored with curry and very tasty. It tasted just like eggs! Service was friendly and they have a good variety for vegetarians and vegans, including desserts/pastries. I love local businesses with an original flair like this. I also love the location in Haleiwa. I will definitely be back!

Just went the other day, and walking in put a smile on my face. The move to the new location takes the place of the last restaurant that was there before,(loved the Hawaiian food joint that was here before) and features a much larger eating area and kitchen. The décor is simple, clean, and fun! This is the only place that comes to mind on the north shore that features an all-vegetarian menu. I may be mistaken though… *Mid Dec 15′ Update*(found out about an all-vegan Indian food truck now in Haleiwa) As an ice cream lover, I was pleasantly surprised to see they have added Uncles ice cream sandwiches to the menu. It does kind of contradict my normal thought of going to the Beet Box to eat healthy food, when I start with dessert!(Dessert-first, because… why not?!?) They have also added some local baked goods, with gluten-free options as well, specialty drinks,(non-alcoholic) and the list goes on. I really like their falafel burger. It’s pretty much my go-to. Usually served with a side of kale or green. Now I’m normally a total carnivore, where if I don’t eat meat in a meal I don’t feel satisfied, places like the Beet Box helped lure me to other options. I look forward to some lunch there anytime I’m on that side of Haleiwa!

Wow! I feel so grateful that this place expanded to a larger location! We have loved them and supported them since their spot in the back of Celestial Foods. I recently went with my boyfriend after rock climbing and then took my sister again the next week. The atmosphere of their new spot is great– just a touch of hipster and the right dose of aloha. I tried the local Sky Ginger kombucha and it was a great, light accompaniment to my food! Of course, I ordered my staple from here: the healthy plate of food with an egg on top. This delicious dish is made with beets, broccoli, black beans, brown rice, kale and onions. It is a delicious and substantial stir fry and I usually end up with some to take home!(Biodegradable take out containers are $.50) My boyfriend tried the Beruit burger, which he loved even though he is usually a carnivore! It was yummy, especially with the feta cheese and the steamed kale as a side. A couple of tips: — Order at the counter and then pick a spot to seat. They will bring your food out to you but you bus your own table. — Bring a re-useable water bottle as they have water there. — Try their baked goods too in the glass case at the front. We left feeling great each time. There is just something special about healthy, yummy food cooked with love! Thanks BeetBox!

Looks like the avocado toast is a hit with everyone! Yeah, it’s simple, not cooked, clean and delicious. Now, the young hippie-chick lady swore by the«burrito babe» and against all my instincts, I agreed to it. She was so happy and jolly. Where do these people come from? It’s possible BBC does good food. But this particular item looks like vomit, and is not a burrito. They could have called it, spicy peanut sauce thai scramble chop suey — which is essentially what’s in a whole wheat wrap. There is no way one could pick it up like a proper burrito. Nor does it have essence of beans or tomato or burrito-like ingredients or flavoring. All in all, a totally gross and disgusting menu item that a few hours later continued to cause some nausea. Whatever you do, do not order this thing, burrito babe, unless you want to put someone down for a little while.
