Sunday brunch is all I go for. Only a mile away from my house. Pretty view of the lake. Great place for a sunset. Brunch is great for breakfast food and not breakfast food eater

Food is just ok nothing special at all. Service was pretty slow too! I once had a turkey dinner there and gravy was sour and old. Not a good experience

My husband, my father and I went for Thanksgiving Dinner. My Dad ordered the prime rib and seemed to really enjoy it. My husband and I went with the buffet. So many items before you even got to the carving station, and everything was excellent. The turkey and the roast beef from the carving station were both juicy and delicious. It’s so easy to dry out a turkey, especially when cooking for mass quantities, but this turkey was perfect. Desserts were good too, but I do wish there was the option of pie on the buffet. Overall, very pleased. I would definitely recommend the Inn if you’re looking for somewhere to go for dinner next Thanksgiving.

Hassle to reserve and cancel a reservation! First was told they were full for Thanksgiving and I could not make a reservation for party of 5. So I asked what about 6? Yes that was fine. For noon. Less that ideal to say the least but whatever. Then I was told it was $ 5 to hold the reservation and I had to give my credit card info. Fine, did that too. About 30 minutes later I booked a reservation through OpenTable(a breeze) for 5 at a far more accommodating restaurant, at a far more decent time(1:45 pm). As a courtesy, I called back Monponsett to cancel the reservation I had just made. The woman who answered could not find my reservation(turns out they had my first name wrong) but finally did somehow and said OK you’re all set. I reminded her of the $ 5 fee to hold the res I was cancelling. She said to call back after Thanksgiving to have it refunded. Seriously?! I thought that was very unprofessional and rude since I had the decency to free the reservation so they could book another party(and collect another $ 5), to make me call back in a week to have my money refunded, and I said so. The next day a very pleasant person named«John» called me to make good on my refund. I had to give my credit card number *again*. Fine. Then he said my $ 30 refund would go through overnight. I said«What? I was told $ 5, not $ 5 per person!» Yup, that’s five dollars per PERSON people, to hold a reservation. And it doesn’t go through when you’re a no-show, but charged at the time of reservation. 1) The ladies who handled my initial reservation and subsequent cancellation should be a bit more informational about my credit card charges, and 2) they should lose the attitude that they are doing me a favor by agreeing to let me patronize their establishment. No thank you!

I used to love this place but the food has gone down hill. It’s average at best. The staff is friendly no problem there, I had 6 subpar meals in a row

As teachers on the last day of school we all wanted or get together to celebrate. A coworker called a couple of days in advance and we were told it would be no problem if we sat at the tables on the water if they were available. When the first group arrived we were told there was no reservation. A coworker could clearly see our reservation was in the book and called the hostess out on that. They were then told that they could not sit on the water because those were only for people who were eating(we were there before 2pm on a Wednesday). As each of the groups started to arrive we were also rudely told we could not sit on the water. We were waiting at the bar for the bartender and at one point after we had waited more than 10 minutes finally asked if there was even a bartender on. Again we were rudely told that he was getting food from the kitchen. Finally he started to take our orders. I was poured half of a small glass of wine. A coworker ordered two drinks and when she asked how much she was told«I don’t know. It’s in the computer. Give me a $ 20 and I’ll give you change». We have no idea if she was given correct change because she was not given a receipt. As we stood at the bar the hostess and wait staff were clearly displeased by our presence. Not to mention the fact that there was no ac on and it was extremely hot in there. We had held a retirement party there the week before and it was fine. But we won’t be returning for any functions or even again in fact. After that round of drinks we took our business to the Venus III who was more than happy to have us sit on the deck. The bartender there was great and we ordered food too. Our group was huge and you guys missed out on a lot of money. We will never be going back.

I was here for a wedding over this past weekend. The place is beautiful. Ample parking. Loved the outdoor ceremony space, minus the fact that there was no microphone and speaker, so it was hard to hear, especially with the wind blowing. The reception hall is great, drinks were very good, but slightly pricey. The buffet was nice and I loved the stuffed chicken. Overall this was a great place to have a wedding at.

I was the photographer at a wedding here yesterday and I really enjoyed the Monponsett Inn. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They were organized and you can tell they all worked really hard to make sure the bride and groom had a fabulous time. I read some mixed reviews about the food but i’d have to say it was 5⁄5 for me. Everything was cooked perfect and it was very filling. The grounds are very nice and make for some nice pictures on the water. Great place.

Date of service: Dec 30, 2014 Meal: Lunch, Eat in All Ratings out of 10: Quality of food: 6 Food to Spend Value: 7 Quality of Service: 6 Overall Rating: 6 Monponsett Inn is right on Monponsett Pond in Halifax and offers water front dining. I had never been before, and on this day we decided to go and check it out for lunch. We started with some appetizers: fried pickles and calamari. The fried pickles were fantastic with a really nice crispy batter. The calamari was even better, as it was prepared perfectly and included peppers intermingled that were also deep fried, along with a tasty marinara sauce for dipping. Before my meal I chose to have some of their famous clam chowder(how come everyone has«famous» clam chowder?), but it was quite hearty, creamy, and delicious. The bread they brought out was also super fresh and good. Given how fantastic the appetizers were, I was stoked for my lunch. I ordered off the lunch menu and got the 3-piece Fried Chicken, which came with choice of starch and vegetable. I chose rice pilaf as my starch and butternut squash as my veggie. Unfortunately, the main course items were nowhere near as good as the appetizers. In fact, it almost felt like they changed cooks in the kitchen between. The food was prepared fresh and hot, but it just wasn’t that great. The fried chicken was juicy but bland, the rice pilaf was ok but not great, and the butternut squash just flat out tasted weird, so much so that I could not finish it. It was amazing how stark the difference was between the two halves of the meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the apps and the soup, but I was extremely nonplussed by the main course. In fact, everyone at the table(4 other people) had the exact same feedback, and they all ordered something different for their main course. The service was also fairly slow and lackluster. The prices were quite reasonable, especially if you order off the lunch menu. The ambiance at Monponsett Inn is cool, especially on a pretty day, as the water view is beautiful, so that alone is enough of a pull to pay it a visit if you are eating in Halifax. My recommendation is to get drinks and appetizers and skip the main course. If I go back that is exactly what I plan on doing.

Probably one of the worst brunches. All the food was cold except the fresh omelet. The service was poor. Sausage squishy. Bacon rubbery. Didn’t attempt the fruit. Did not look appetizing.

Crushed the clam chowder and a couple of beers on the deck overlooking the water. I was on a business trip and there isn’t much else to see in this part of MA.

Visited here 2 times in the last 2 weeks. Both times had the clam chowder and fishermen platter. Seafood is just shy of excellent. Service has always been excellent. My reason for 4 stars and not 5, is mainly because the beer wasn’t cold enough on my last visit. My Coors Light and friends Bud Lights could have been much colder. The Michelobe Ultras and ladies martinis were reported delicious and cold. Even after the waitresses offered to put some beer on ice, the only one that was cold was the last one I had. Prime rib was very good and other meals were all reported as delicious. Portions are very good and no lie, you will get 2 meals out of the fishermen’s platter. Chowder was thick and creamy with an ample amount of clams. Really, some of the best chowder I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place and now with summer upon us, the outside seating is a great spot to have lunch or dinner with the lake in the background.

We stopped going to the Monponsett Inn a couple of years ago after a streak of disappointing meals. The menu had taken a nose-dive and the service was consistently lackluster. We went back yesterday when somebody else in our group picked the restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised to find things had really IMPROVED! They’ve beefed up the menu with some creative/upscale options and added wine suggestions to accompany the entrée descriptions, indications that they’ve made a conscious decision to build their business not run it into the ground as they appeared to be doing when we had stopped going there. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, too. The bread could’ve been better – it tasted like it had been frozen too long and was barely warmed on the outside – so the Monponsett Inn could definitely ‘up their bread game.’ The entrees, however, were REALLYGOOD! I got the chicken supreme(yum!) and others in our group got scallops which they were very pleased with, too. The vegetables won’t win any freshness awards, but they were OK. Our waiter, in a move of sheer brilliance, stopped by our table to check in on us while holding a tray of incredible looking desserts destined for another table. We rarely ever get dessert, particularly at lunchtime, but all it took was one look at those decadent treats to seal our after-meal fate, and the chocolate mousse cake was worth every blessed calorie! We’ll be back.

Go here for the brunch on Sundays, its very good. Otherwise go for the gorgeous view of the lake it sits on(with a nice deck). Food is good but nothing really note worthy… typical solid south shore cuisine.

Good food. Good value for the money. Good service. Awesome view. I don’t get all the hating. The seafood sandwich was a hit. I had a half serving of chicken parm and it was plenty. Only my niece complained about being hungry, but she has the proverbial hollow leg(wait until she discovers the concept of an all you can eat buffet).

Its hard for me to decide how many stars to give this place. I’ve been here off and on through out the years and years ago it was way better then it is now. I’m not sure if it’s all new staff or management or what but it has gone down hill. Last time I was here I ordered from here I called it into the take out and drove to pick it up. I picked up the food and went back to my friends house. As I opened up my sub I noticed a piece of hair. Then as I went to take out that piece I found more all through out the entire sub. When I say there was about 10 hairs in it I’m not even exaggerating. It looked like somebody trimmed their hair over my food. So of course a friend and I drove back. I told the cashier I would like my money back and explained the reasoning(I also had my hairy sub in hand as proof) The cashier seemed apologetic and willing to help. She of course had to get the manager. I explained to the manager my issue. She took the sub from me looked at it for a moment and then tossed it in the trash asking me if they could make me a new one. Of course I was beyond disgusted and said no. I explained to her I wanted cash back and I already placed a order into another sub shop up the road. She seemed annoyed with me over that but could you blame me for not wanting anything from them after getting that? She told me all she could do was give me a gift card. Oh and she added a few dollars on making it a even $ 10. I rejected her offer because I truly did have another order in up the road and did not want to spend over $ 10 on one sub that was edible. She argued with me and of course I had to end up leaving with a $ 10 gift card that to this day is collecting dust in a drawer. I plan on never returning to that place again. Its not even because of the disgustingly hairy food but because of the managers horrible attitude.

This has got to be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. Took my parents out to dinner here and will never be back. The service was a nightmare from the start, our waitress was rude and cold, she never checked to see if we were OK or if we needed anything, she came over and stood by our table yet asked the lady next to us if she needed anything, AREYOUSERIOUS??! It took 35 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was sub par. I had the haddock which was mediocre and my father got the clams which were all black and gooey and gross. My mother got steak tips which were flavorless and def not worth the 16.00 they charged. But that’s not the worst of it, there was a spider(YES A SPIDER) crawling on our table and a fruit fly came right out of my mothers salad. I was completely disgusted. They took 5.00 off the bill and the waitress snapped«you can’t please everybody.» Needless to say for the price, I will never eat there again. Horrible.

One of our favorite place to dine. Service is always good. We always get their fried calamari as appetizer with plenty of pepper rings in it. Mum and I will share their fisherman’s platter, which is absolutely impossible for anyone to finish. Dad will always go for something on their special menu, which he said is always great. Prime Rib is a must for my husband.

We attended a wedding reception at the Monponsett Inn last weekend and thought it was pretty great. The wait staff did a great job at circulating tasty appetizers and serving our meals, the bartenders were attentive and kept drinks flowing, and the location is pretty amazing. Having a wedding reception at a place where proximity to the water is the greatest attribute isn’t the biggest draw in the month of February, but the view was still really nice. They also have a cute gazebo on the lawn that would have been perfect for a really nice moment if it wasn’t like 20 degrees. They were also doing some renovation work on the side of the building that was a bit unsightly. The food was pretty good — we had a monster steak with some tasty red potatos and a stuffed chicken breast along with some family style beans and carrots. Overall, I thought Monponsett Inn has a great location and we would definitley look forward to going back for another big group function!
