Cherry on Top Ice Cream Shop

On our drive home from Boston, I got a hankering for some ice cream. After opening up my trusty Unilocal app, we settled on the Cherry on Top Ice Cream Shop. Upon arrival, the shop had quite a few locals there, and that reassured us of our decision. Let me preface this by saying I have been looking for a novel ice cream soda for months! I said as much to the lady behind the counter (who by the way was extremely nice and went above and beyond to help), and she offered just the right suggestion. She presented me with a «Foxon Soda — Iron Brew» I had never heard of, and she recommended pairing it with butter pecan ice cream. She assured me with such confidence that the mixing of flavors would be a great success, and I trusted in her opinion. The end result was a magical kaleidoscope of flavors. Additionally, while I was enjoying this succulent concoction, at least 10 more locals entered the shop… this really seems like a popular place.
The shop was small but cute, and there were loads of flavors to choose from with very reasonable prices. Overall, we were more than pleased with our ice cream shop stop tonight!

Ice cream is perfect amount of sugar unlike Wentworth’s who could give you a sugar coma. Nice selection of flavors and cute neighborhood location.
I’d say this runs my 2^nd fave in CT behind Dr. Mike’s who retains the #1 spot. #2 has runner ups such as Rich’s too.

I like to root for this place because it’s small and local. The ice cream is consistently good… on par with Ashley’s but a bit smaller and a lot cleaner. There is always a great variety of flavors and great sundae options. The size portion is smaller than some other places so plan accordingly. I got the kiddie last time and it was literally two bites worth… I guess appropriate for a «kiddie» but not what I’m used to at some other places where I’m forced to scale down to stave off obesity :) Worth a try if you’re in the area.

Great local ice cream shop! We’re regulars, especially in the summer time. They owner is super-​friendly, and the ice cream is great, and the prices are low. Can’t ask for much more!

I love this place! The staff is great and they always have a sugar free, froyo, and mom dairy option available. There’s a great variety of toppings and flavors, and I love that I’m supporting 2 local businesses by stopping here. My go to spot!

I had a simple (reliable) two scoop chocolate cup & couldn’t have been more underwhelmed — -seriously a stop n shop store brand chocolate ice-​cream tastes more «refined». It even had icicles from over-​freezing .
I guess I can see that it might appeal to the yuppie-​Yale wannabe hipster crowd with its «local» whitneywille location and all, but if you’re a connoisseur of quality ice-​cream do yourself a favor and go to Wentworth’s or Ashley’s —- your sweet tooth will thank you!

Discovered this place last summer and our family is in love! We are in once a week. My kids would go way more if we’d let them.
This is a small ice cream shop in Hamden in a cute little neighborhood, many patrons walk here.
The owner Alex and her staff are extremely friendly and helpful! They let you try samples which we take advantage of on new flavors. Seasonal flavors change often which gives you a great variety.
I would say between 20 – 30 flavors on hand everyday. They do milkshakes, sundaes, even ice cream cakes and pies.
We actually got a ice cream cake for my moms birthday when she was in town last week. It was great!!!
The ice cream is Bucks out of Milford and amazing. I am a homemade ice cream snob. We try so many and they just are so so, but this has us coming back every week.
They have two tables inside and a few outdoor tables and benches.
I haven’t tried anything here that wasn’t good.
Salted Carmel is my absolute fave, but I’ve enjoyed their summer flavors this year too. Peach ice cream is super great! Banana tastes delicious. They have really good sorbets too. I’m not a sorbet fan, but find myself trying them here and liking them. Watermelon, pink champagne to name a few.
My husband loves the strange ice cream flavors like swamp.
If you haven’t tried this place and love ice cream, you’re missing out…

Yummy in your tummy!!! Great addition to the Spring Glen area. Perfect stop on any summer day! I love the milkshakes, kids love all the ice cream flavors. We love this place and the small town feel and charm it brings.

I am a ice cream junkie, I will never turn it down. Needless to say though I am EXTREMELY picky when it come to my ice cream. Well I tried this and started with the 1^st sundae on their list… The Pink Star. AMAZING, I will be working my way down their list.

This is the cutest ice cream shop! I’m there almost every week because I’m a major ice cream lover and this is the best place the get my fix. It’s cute, small, and super clean. She always has different rotating flavors to choose from and some funky sundae ideas. It’s French-​style custard and it’s really creamy and oh-​so delicious! :-) Plus, her prices are better than a lot of the other places in the area.
Cherry on Top just started offering ice cream cakes and I already placed an order for my birthday cake and I CAN’T WAIT to get it! If you’re in or around Hamden, it’s a no-​brainer. Don’t even bother with anywhere else.

I have made many trips to Cherry on Top since it has opened – there are always IMAGINATIVE flavors and great concoctions for sundaes. Most recently I had a Pina Colada Sundae (pineapple coconut ice cream with pineapple and coconut, whipped cream and, of course, a cherry on top)! It was fresh and creamy and delicious.
My family’s favorites are swamp and creamsicle!!!
The prices are very reasonable and staff is friendly!
Right now they have Black Cherry Vanilla so I will be back there really soon!
Tables and chairs outside on the sidewalk so you can enjoy your creamy deliciousness and people watch!

Move over, Ashley’s and Wentworth’s: there’s a new ice cream parlor in Hamden, and it’s more than ready to take you on! A wonderful, wide array of delicious flavors, including some incredible seasonal offerings on a rotating basis. (Don’t miss what Alexandra and her staff call «Quicksand” – it really is indescribably yummy!) Great assortment of toppings and really fresh waffle cones, in addition to sugar and wafer cones. Seating inside the shop and outside on Whitney Avenue (complementing the al fresco dining just steps away at Park Central and Café Amici). Delightfully friendly, able service. The staff eagerly offer tastings for the undecided and have proven quick to offer an extra spoon so our daughter’s dog could enjoy her (very small) share. We who live in Spring Glen are especially lucky to have this new addition, but Cherry on Top is worth a visit from wherever you may be in the Greater New Haven area.
