Richards Pizza

I have the worst timing. I was looking for this location, instead of the Main Street location, and found that they had moved, and the address was not updated. Besides, that, I got there about the time 30 people were having a birthday party for someone, though I was in the middle of the line. If anyone had mentioned it to me, I would have gone somewhere else.
People had been waiting for a while, and they seemed really impatient. It took quite a while for service at the counter.
Previously, in the Trenton location, I had pizza, which was a lot like LaRosa’s. This time, I was going to have their «famous» steak sandwich. The pizza was good, so I figured that the sandwich would be good, also. I had them add cheese, and the add both provolone and mozzarella for a total of $ 6.45−−50 cents extra, I believe. I also asked for a large Mountain Dew. When he went to get the cup, he futzed with a few things under the counter for a moment, and gave me a cup. It didn’t look large, but at a mere 20 cents difference, it wasn’t a huge issue. I could refill more, if necessary.
As the dining room filled, the family was moving tables and chairs. I had some flashbacks of my adoptive mum’s family trying to squeeze 70+ people into a Ponderosa or some other budget restaurant for a family dinner. Circumstances are what they are – you deal with them the best you can. I wasn’t dealing with the crowd well, and the kitchen was doing much better.
It was probably 45 minutes from when I opened the door to when I got my sandwich. It wasn’t quite that good for the wait. It was a chopped steak with loads of onions, some pizza sauce, pickles, and the aforementioned cheese on a crispy sub roll.
Just as I was about to eat it, one of the family members who just had his butt in my face, turned to me, pointed at the sandwich, and said «You’re not going to eat all that, are you?», and I didn’t feel comfortable enough to reply. The relative nearest him turned around to see who was there. :-D
If I had gone to a Cassano’s on the way (Trenton or Monroe), I could have got their chopped steak sandwich with gravy, mushrooms, banana peppers, and a bit of tomato sauce, also on a crispy roll. If I’d gone to Cassano’s across from Pearl’s Diner, I would have got a boatload of attitude again. :-D
I’ll probably try the sandwich again when there isn’t a crowd. It may taste better if the kitchen isn’t rushed, and I’m not overwhelmed by someone else’s family.

Richards is awesome! This location was the original Richards. However, they recently made a move to a former Arby’s building at 3015 Dixie Highway, which is right down the street. The new location has a pickup window and plenty of parking, so it’s much more convenient.
I typically don’t go to Richards for their pizzas, even though their veggie pizza is great. I go there for their steak sandwiches, which are absolutely amazing. I’ve been getting them my entire life, and they have always been good. I’ve even introduced a few friends to their steak sandwiches and they were quickly hooked.
When I lived in North Carolina, Richards was one of the places that I really missed. If you haven’t been, you should definitely go!

Oh My God! If you don’t like Richards Steak Sandwiches you should have your tastebuds taken from you. These would get me in big trouble, diet wise, if I lived close. In college we would drive from Michigan 6 hours each way just to get a box of them and drive back home. Yep they are that good. This place has been there since the 50’s. Must be doing something really right. Enjoy this place!!!

Steak sandwich is the reason to go. Pizza is just fair. Fairfield location is much better than Hamilton in my opinion.

Richards is well worth the drive north from Cincinnati, although this location is in Fairfield, not Hamilton. They serve up a standard, medium-​thickness crust pizza loaded with quality toppings. It’s a large, pleasant eat-​in (or takeout) spot where you order at the counter and they deliver the pizza to your table. The only down side is that the pizzas seem to take a bit longer to bake than some other places. That, and the large case of several flavors of delicious, made-​on-​premises fudge sitting right by the cash register – it’s almost impossible to not add one on to the order. They also serve some nice-​looking hoagies, although I’ve never tried one.
