We thought we’d take another chance since they’re doing an all-you-can-eat pasta special on Saturdays for who knows how long.(They don’t publicize it very well.) Maybe their sign at the intersection of Calumet Ave. and 129th has it, but I cannot read electronic signs that flash multiple messages while I’m driving by at 45 mph. If you haven’t seen this place, you won’t believe it exists in the midst of tank farms, a refinery and was built on a slag heap. It’s amazing what about $ 9,000,000.00 can do. The restaurant/bar seats 70 and offers access to a wraparound outdoor balcony. Too bad the doors have no airlock because every time the servers open them the outside comes inside. The balcony features three flat-screen televisions and patio furniture able to withstand the site’s high winds. Inside, during the off season(no golfers) it would be a nice romantic destination with the fireplace but the 80s and 90s rock music spoiled that. On to the meal… our waitress greeted us promptly and took our drink order and mentioned the all-you-can-eat pasta choices. We chose our first two out of the half dozen or so took about 15 – 20 minutes for our pasta to come out, but it was worth the wait. They came with a good tasting piece of garlic bread and the portions were very generous. It was difficult to resist finishing the first round but finish it we did so we could try two other selections. They were as generous and delicious as the first, but we could not finish them. Then the most unpleasant part of the evening began. Our wonderful waitress asked if we would like boxes for our leftovers and of course we said yes. We don’t like to waste food and this wasn’t a buffet. She wasn’t sure it was O.K. with the manager since this was her first time serving this special. Well, we sure found out, because the manager appeared, saw our take out boxes, and questioned our waitress: «You didn’t give them take out boxes, did you?» Our waitress apologized saying they were leftovers, and she did not know it was not allowed. Nowhere on the signs, the menu, or verbally did it say that, either. Thus embarrassed, we were able to take our leftovers and left wondering how this micro-manager got her job.

It’s not fancy food, at least the lunch fare – it’s exactly what I’d expect for lunch at a golf course: wraps, burgers, sammiches, fries. The chicken wrap was very good, and fresh. They let us sub sweet potato fries for the regular fries. The SP fries were of the pre-bought variety, but also of the delicious variety. I wanted an Arnold Palmer(my fave summer drink, but also appropriate for a golf course), but the lemonade was Countrytime(or similar) and I couldn’t do that, so stuck to water. The patio was nice, although it got super windy by the end of lunch and wasn’t actually so pleasant. My friend, who’s been there before, warned me the service wasn’t speedy, but we were pleasantly surprised with decently quick preparation of our food. The staff was all friendly and helpful. Obviously there’s plenty of parking, so it’s convenient.

Ridiculous. We had a 1:00 reservation for 18 people. Ordered by 1:20 and food started coming out a 2:30. Apps for 1⁄3 of the people. Then meals come for some of the others, by the time some were done eating others did not even get there initial appetizers. The management let the poor waiter deal with what was going on and it was so not his fault. We inquired a few times about the apps… finally got there after another 45 minutes and had to wait even longer for the meals. Final meal was served after 3:00. Really? They waiter apologized and told us a few times«we only have 1 cook today». The manager was at the bar on numerous occasions and didn’t even have the common decency to stop by our table and say anything. We’re very understanding people but the lack of concern or care was ridiculous. They could care less. The food was decent but really? They need to learn how to manage customer service. Just so not acceptable for them not to address what was going on. It’s a shame because it’s such a beautiful facility.

It’s been a while, but I came back and tried their ½ lb Kobe burger. I had it medium, and it was a good and succulent burger. I enjoyed the meal but have to say it was overpriced at $ 15. My colleague had Cajun chicken linguine, and liked the chicken, but the pasta had too many onions in it.

Had dinner, group of 4, calamari appetizer was good, plus a lot of calamari and two sauses. Had lake perch — seemed to be overcooked and was not hot when delivered. The others had ravoilli which seemed to be good, fried shimp which was good. Shrimp were of good size. The final person had white fish, which seemed to be good. A four piece band played during dinner(Friday nite) it was good, but too loud. Drinks were expensive, $ 6 for a Gumball draft beer, $ 7 for house wine. The restaurant was not busy at all, only 4 – 5 tables being used. The building is very beautiful and extremely clean. A view of the golf course was nice. You can also look at the BP Refinery off to the east. Luckily you can’t smell it.

I have been to the Lost Marsh restaurant three times for lunch. I was very pleased with the food and service. I highly recommend the homemade tomato soup with the blue cheese croûton. Yummy! Also the bruchetta was excellent. It came with the usual tomato topping but the pesto and the slices of fresh mozzarella were an additional surprise. Excellent! Drinks are expensive, same as a Chicago. Not enough people know about the restaurant, they should advertise.

As the other reviews here indicate, both the service and the food here are inconsistent. We have been here a number of times and always appreciate the lovely, relaxing setting and the view of the Calumet Region. But we have experienced extremely slow service on several occasions, though it has never been very busy when we were there. Similarly, sometimes the food has not been up to par because it was not hot enough or seems to have been sitting for some time before it was served. But we have also had some delicious meals. The tomato soup with blue cheese and the cioppini are wonderful starters. When the sweet potato fries are served hot, they’re great. And the last time we were there for dinner, the rib eye steak was perfectly charred and the fish delicious. Both portions were very large and well worth the price. We’ll keep coming back, and we’ll hope that they work out the problems with service that have bothered us.

My mom and I ate here and had calamari and tiramisu. The food and service was nice and friendly. The entertainment of television, golf course scenery, and balcony view from inside is a nice chance to enjoy a meal elegantly. The aroma of the food is good and the place is outstanding in the hidden parts of Whiting, IN

Although the facility was very nice with view. The service was not on par by any means. I have golfed at this course a few times but have yet to eat in the newly remodeled clubhouse. Unfortunately, my experience was not that great. My guest and I ordered the filet mignon, which was 22 $ with no side so we also ordered the double baked potato which also 5 $…our waitress seemed to be working some banquet function while also trying to juggle our table in the dining area. Needless to say, the server was horrible I never received a glass of water… and debated walking up to the bar to get a second drink. Filet was served on top of a bed of lettuce as a garnishment which was odd. I would recommend any couple ready to spend 80 – 100 $ on a steak meal find a different local location. Cheers!
