Krieg’s Bakery

Ridiculous not sure how this place has 5 stars went in to order a cake and she couldn’t even tell me what they had (ie what are the choices that you offer). Not only that was incredibly rude. Did a fair amount of research before even choosing to go to this bakery and you can be sure I will not be back.

I came here once 4 years ago and was impressed enough with the quality of the baked goods that now that I am visiting again, I stopped back in. I have been out of the country, and had a hankering for a pecan pie, and I was told that I could order one, which I did.
I came in the next day they were
pick it up and — how pleasant to get a fresh-​made pecan pie that is still warm! the crust was EXCELLENT! The lady at the counter (who I learned is the owner´s wife) said to me “this pie will last at least a week“. I answered, “no, it won´t!“. It didn´t. I polished it off in 4 days.
I saw some other reviewers liked the jelly donuts, and they weren´t wrong! They are so nice because they have a real home-​made taste, that I cannot compare with any others that I have eaten.
I also went back there because I wanted to visit with the people there – I feel as if they are my new friends in Hampton Bays. I would only say to them and the rest of their staff– thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Delicious cookies! Went in on a whim and had a random sampling of cookies boxed up and they were really good! Definitely worth trying out!

What fun, what deliciousness, what local color.
We were in town to visit an elderly friend, and needed a birthday cake, so happens they had just what we needed, made up, and were more than willing to decorate it for us as we waited.
Talking to the locals that come in, no question this is the place for bakery items.

Amazing!!! Anything you get will taste great!!!

First, regarding the owner, I don’t know what attitude previous «patients/​customers» were bringing into the bakery, but I’ve had only incredibly positive experiences with a very friendly owner and staff.
Love their bagels, delicious jelly donuts, Boston creams, cinnamon rolls, coconut buns, apple fritters and fruit pastries. Wait every year just to come here!

We spend two weeks in Hampton Bays every Summer and going to Kriegs as often as we can is one of the highlights. It’s a tradition. The pastries are fantastic and my kids love Kriegs as much as they love NY pizza for dinner. There’s great selection and it’s always fresh. The owners are lovely. I have been to Krieg’s dozens of times and am absolutely skeptical /​incredulous at a few of these reviewers and their rants about the lovely owners and employees of Kriegs. However, I have seen my share of Summer visitors and a few can be pretty nasty just about anywhere — so I would take these awful reviews with a very large grain of salt. The fact that they go on and on and on makes it clear to me they take themselves a little too seriously. I mean c’mon, because a shop owner isn’t treating you like royalty, it’s just such a good reason to go on a Unilocal crusade, right? Even if someone wasn’t 100% cheery, think about it, who else gets up at 3am or 4am to start baking? Not me and not you. And if I did, I doubt I would always have the sunshine turned on. All that said, we have never been treated any way but wonderfully. There are smiles and suggestions, and the owner will often throw in a couple of extra cookies into our order for our kids. The quality is fantastic — no one quite makes pastries like these any more. My favorites are the crumb danish and cheese danish. My kids love the boston crème. And I always bring home a few crumb buns to a friend.

The place doesn’t look very inviting nor clean. Staff not so friendly and just weird. I highly doubt their sanitation compliance. I drove by there recently and saw a mouse scurry out of the establishment’s side door. Plus the negative stories from different customers over the years are not worth it to to give them business. The place should just shut down, make room for a better bakery in Hampton Bays. I think you’re better off at the local Panera Bread for now, better quality, cleanliness and great customer service.

DO NOT SUPPORT A BUSINESS THAT DOES NOT RESPECT ITS CUSTOMERS!!! I just had the nastiest experience at this bakery. The older woman (Krieg’s wife) is a total PSYCHO-​bitch and from other reviews, PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME WAY! She will not give you the exact pastries that you are asking for, and after arguing/​screaming with/​at you she will walk away to the back. While she ran to the back, I began asking the young girl at the counter who was helping another customer if she would be able to help me and give me what I want and she wouldn’t say ANYTHING! What a NUT HOUSE !!! And the PASTRIES are MEDIOCRE at best. Time for another bakery in Hampton Bays. There is no way I’ll be giving business to this one. And I’m glad I’m not the only writing a psycho-​review on Krieg’s Bakery.

Jelly Donuts! BEST i’ve ever had.
Must try!
Huge amount of jelly in the donut!
Quality of jelly seemed to be of highest quality!
(not some cheap jelly, but really high priced stuff)
Donut has increadible texture, maybe even call it a «crust» (in a good way!
Its soft and chewy, yet somehow strong enough to hold in all that jelly.
They had other desserts, but its the Jelly Donuts, that are what you want to get there!
QUESTION — How come so few reviews ?
Was expecting 100s of reviews and all 5 stars, just for the jelly donuts.
Maybe this place is still a secret.
Friendly as well and gave us great directions to find the place.

Call in the psychiatrist!
This latest visit (of many in past summers) calls for a whole new review. Same star rating though– I’ll be nice.
After hearing that they were possibly under new ownership, my father asked the lady (owner) at the counter.
Her reply (screaming): Whaddya mean under new ownership? We’ve been here for 25 years! If you don’t like it, leave.
He didn’t. He likes their crumb buns too much.
So he ordered some and she was giving him all the ends. He asked if there were newly baked ones in the back she could bring out instead of the ends.
She said, «yeah there are just baked ones but if you don’t like the way the ends taste then go home and bake them yourself»!!!
She boxed up all the ends for him.
At this point my mother who is rarely speechless walked out.
My father stayed and strangely kept ordering.
As she was packing up the other items he started talking to her more (gutsy!!) and she said she was having a really bad day.
Well if I acted like that at work on a bad day I would be fired. Guess it’s different when you’re the owner.
No wonder the nice husband was working in the back — he probably needs to stay separate from her.
As for the cookies, hot cross buns and crumb buns– not bad but nothing that’s really great at all. I found everything ‘blah’, but maybe her bad day showed in her baking. Very good donuts, though greasy, and very low prices.
While leaving, the customers in line said, «why don’t you just buy out the whole bakery and leave nothing for us».
Wasn’t sure if the customers were kidding or if they were just crazy too.

Krieg’s owner was back there this week and all was good. Must try their German butter cake — sort of like a crumb cake with a crunchy sugar top. Deadly!
Walnut danish was perfect.
You have to bob and weave in these places. but the above are super.

This is a wonderful bakery, period. Ever try the chocolate dipped strawberries? Amazing fresh and large berries covered in delicious chocolate. Crumb cake from heaven, great birthday cakes, and the owners are just nice, regular people selling very good items. Wonderful bread and rolls too.
