Large amount of food, reasonably priced. However, the interior looked run-down and I didnt feel comfortable dining inside, so I took my order out and ate outside in car.

I don’t understand how they keep selling out of food it 6:00 if you go there it’s a chance you may or may not get some food. At the end of day the food is good.

My coworker has been bragging about this place for months and today we couldn’t take it anymore. The ladies were patient and informative when it came to questions. The food is another story, it was great! We got banana pudding, turkey wing, smothered pork chop, chicken adobo and cabbage. Needless to say it is ALL gone. True home cooking!

Attitude! Attitude! Attitude! The light skinned lady with the short hair have some issues going on with pretty women, this is the second time she was rude to me. The first incident I let it go. This time as I was waiting in line for the cashier to ring me up, which I had no problem waiting, she comes to the counter as asked had I’ve been helped, I told her no, I’m just waiting for someone to ring me up. Then she turned to another employee and said«can you help her» then she rolled her eyes at me. WOW! I was stunned especially when I spend at $ 50 a week their. I will never enter that place of business again and I know it’s family owned. Watch out pretty women.

BOMB. EXCELLENT. NEVERRRR disappointed. When I’m here from Richmond I ALWAYS stop here for a bite even if I’m not hungry. All soul food. Not that greasy, oily buttery soul food either. This is real, flavorful FOOD. Cooked fresh DAILY. You gotta check them out. They’re a little slow, I assume family owned, so they take their time. But mind you… THISAINT A FASTFOODJOINT… so have patience, because it is SURELY worth it. Hmm hmm good!!! Thanks Ma Shirley’s!

I called the restaurant because I got turned around and Tony(who was working the cash register) offered to stay on the phone with me to see that I made it okay. I thought that was great. When we walked in they were not that busy but Tony greeted us with a smile and thanked us for coming in. He explained the specials and asked if we had questions. I had the fried flounder to order along with the best dog on turkey wings I every tasted, with green beans rice & gravy. My mother had the turkey wings too along with ribs, mac n cheese, rice & cabbage. Food was great & service was even better. I applaud this restaurant they got it right. That’s why I gave them 5 stars. As we were leaving they thanked us again for coming & told someone we came from Virginia Beach for the food and we were not disappointed.

This restaurant has authentic southern cooking. No out of box nor can ‘cooking’ here! This is my second time patronizing Ma Shirley’s. PROS: Both times have been consistent in both food quality and genuine friendly service. The prices are fair and food portions are generous. A large combination meal consists of two meat selections, two side selections and a drink for under $ 11. Selections are numerous: Thai options(pancit, coconut chicken, lumpia, beef and chicken adobo); Southern options(turkey & gravy, BBQ turkey, fried chicken, chicken gizzards in gravy, mashed potatoes, candied yams, stuffing, collards w/pork, collards w/o pork, steamed broccoli, optional cheese sauce, hush puppies, rolls). *forgive as I may have forgotten and left an item or two out* Assorted homemade desserts: baked banana pudding, cheese pie, assorted cakes. CONS: Candied yams and banana pudding may be unavailable as these items are really good and therefore sell out frequently. Ok, I must be really honest on both the PRO and CON sides, so with that being said, I am a pretty good southern home cook and more importantly I’m a TRUEFOODCONNOISSEUR. I love all things food in terms of how flavors and textures work together, seasoning selections and pairings, and cooking styles. I study food. I must admit that I am extremely light handed with salt and other sodium additives. I am of the belief salt should be used sparingly to enhance and bring out a food’s flavor ONLY. Some of the items are a little too salty in my opinion and I have to break the servings up and not eat all at one time so I’m unable to enjoy the homemade lemonade with the meal. I MUST drink water. So in so many words there are a few items that are a little too salty for me. I ask that you NOT let that deter you as you may not find this to be the case for your taste buds. To wrap this up I’d like to emphasize a couple of things: The family is extremely welcoming, kind, and sincere. The food quality and serving sizes are at a great value. The banana pudding, lemonade and candied yams are absolutely divine! Please go and support this family owned restaurant and enjoy a great meal in the process ;)
