Poor customer service from the server. I ordered some beef bulgogi to go. As I sat and waited for my food, I saw the lady walk into the kitchen and come back out with food that was packed to go. She left it on the counter then walked back in the kitchen. I had no idea if the food was mine or someone else’s who happened to place a pick up order. So I sat there until the lady came back out of the kitchen. I had to ask her if the food on the counter was mine? She said yes, so I took it and left. I thought it was pretty rude how she didn’t think to let me know that the food was mine and just left it on the counter. The beef bulgogi wasn’t even that great. I will not be going back here again. I’ll be sure to find a Korean restaurant with better food and customer service.

I have been here a few times now for take out, and everytime I go the food is amazing. The closest thing I have had to real Korean food since I have been back to the states from overseas. Definitely give it a look.

Yummy/authentic Korean food. Service isn’t meant to be amazing– a little pricey, but overall good Korean food for the Hampton Roads area.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times with a bad service, But food is decent. I did encounter a most unpleasant situation today at lunch. The server who is always there at lunch has never been nice to us, but for some reason, once in a while, she does smile and be nice to some costumers she likes, I am sure if you have ever been there you know what I am talking about. Today I have had the worst experience of dining in my life from this very unfriendly server lady was even worse today and ended up with us leaving the restaurant without eating. Rice that came out with the dish I ordered looked like it was scrapped from the bottom of the pot and had yellowish spot all over, when I asked her for a different bowl of rice, she went off on me. Started yelling in my face and created a scene and stomped off into the kitchen and started yelling at the owner/cook to let them know how unreasonable I was with some harsh words which I could hear from where I was sitting(in Korean). I got up when she came out of the kitchen, told her I that I heard what she said and yelling about and I don’t appreciate it. She started to raise her voice and approached me like she was going to throw something at me. I decided it wasn’t worth it and left with an awe. I have no clue to what was even going on in her head. What was she thinking? Her verbal abuse and action could be a detrimental to the business. The owners must have no control of her since no one came out to see what was going on while other customers just watched the scene she was making. It was needless to say, embarrassing. I am not ever going back to this place ever again, decent food or not. I was warned by many other Koreans that this place is a trouble, drugs and gambling goes on, well, as long as I am not exposed, I thought to myself, it is unfair to say I shouldn’t go there since my experience wasn’t great but the food was still good. Well, I will say this, learn from other people’s mistake is what I should have done in this case. I will not give this place a one star but won’t let me leave a review without choosing one. I believe they owe me an apology for being humiliated in public and being exposed to such an unpleasant encounter, but I doubt they care to do so. They have no idea who the customer is and what they are capable of doing? If I was a vicious person, after what I had to go though, I have so many ideas to make sure no one else is treated like that.

Im korean american, heard about sammys while at Langley afb. Definitely has old world tastes so it hit the spot but i cant believe i paid $ 13 for kimchi jjigae. Im from jersey and ive never paid over $ 8 for some kimchi jjigae. Its a seedy little bar with terrible interior décor but its character is made by the old korean men youll see meeting up and sharing a few drinks~reminds me of restaurants by the bases in korea: T

Yup. They serve the best traditional Korean food. Hands down. I almost licked the empty dishes. The portion was also very generous. Love it!!!

Pretty good korean food. We stop by after church on Sunday and enjoy our lunch. This place isn’t fancy. Not having a stone bowl was a little downer. The service was great and the food came out fast. I definitely would come back here to eat.

I seriously eat here several times a month. The mondoo and Bulgogi is top notch. Kimchi jigae is that bomb. When I am in NOVA I eat at Honey pig. In SOVA… Sammy’s all day!

Fast friendly service and very good Korean food. We had a nice lunch here on a weekday. Very reasonable pricing and good portions. My wife who lived in Korea for some time gave it a thumbs up for authentic.

First time at a Korean bar. Pork and chicken bulgogi was delicious, along with the veggie side dishes. Server seemed more comfortable after our guest admitted to living in S Korea for 2 years. The karaōke was subtly weird.

I’m not from the area, so I was a little skeptical about going to a Korean restaurant since we have so many great places in northern va. The servers were attentive, but we were the only customers, so it didn’t really count haha. I think this place is only good for drinking. I definitely wouldn’t come back for the food. I had the dumpling soup and it was mediocre at best. The side dishes that came out were very simple and bland. I tried the spicy stir fried squid, which wasn’t too bad. We drank a couple pitchers of beer and called it a night. The only thing that was remotely interesting was the karaōke machine up front. Koreans love drunken karaōke haha.

So this is the first time I’ve been here and we got some pretty poor service. A couple came in after us(who were Korean) and got water and food before us. We had to ask for water and side dishes. Also waitress was kind of rude. She barely came to our table to check on us and when we asked for things she kept walking as we were trying to talk to her and ask for more water or the bill. The food is good however service kind of sucked! I would recommend Moan’s Korean restaurant before going back to this place.

We had dinner with some friends here. It is not much to see from the outside or inside. It is a local bar & grill with tables. The bulgogi is excellent. It is grilled on a barbecue. There is a menu in Korean on the wall and about half of the 20 – 25 customers were Korean. The menu has about 15 entrees, all inexpensive.
