Very limited selection. Very overpriced. If you’re driving into Hana from somewhere else, go grocery shopping there and bring with you.

Spoiler alert! I did read the reviews which also gave me the 4−1−1 on it but it also intrigued me to see it! Read between the«stars» …you just have to check it out. it’s half ways between«iconic and trailer trash»?? There’s something so wrong because parts of me did love it! Heck, it’s like they took 1001 things from Wal-Mart, 898 things from Safeway, 427 things from Trader Joes and 255 things from Home Depot and the rest from the mom and pop places scattered around Hana and that’s Hasegawa General Store! It has a little bit of everything… no lie! And if I lived anywhere near there, I’d probably be there a few times a week! I mean, don’t judge until you have been in Hana and know that there isn’t much around the area to get the miscellaneous stuff that a house might need! Hubby and I stopped in to grab a bottle of wine and snacks but it’s literally a one-stop shop! Not my cup of tea but it definitely serves a much needed purpose!

OK… here’s another one that’s overly rated. I understand it has some history to serve the town of Hana, but it is just an old store that sells a little of everything. And when I say it’s old, it is old and a bit run down. When we visited last week, more than one of the refrigerators were not work, and just sat there empty like it’s ready to be haul away to the junk yard. If you’re needing to buy something, please stop by. But if you’re like us that don’t need anything other than the curiosity of stopping by due to the high Unilocal review, you would be disappointed.

As a store, it is nothing special. However, it is worth a quick stop since it is iconic. It serves a small town in the middle of nowhere so it has a little of everything and is overpriced. They also have shirts that say you survived the road to Hana. They are the only thing I would buy besides a drink if I forgot to bring enough. If you are planning a trip to Maui and looking for recommendations, please see

Great place to stock up on supplies while camping in Hana(snacks, knives, snorkeling gear, slippahs, beer, cold drinks, etc.). Great service and friendly cashiers. While the store itself doesn’t have much in the way of produce, if you need a little cash-back for fresh fruit from the fruit stands along your journey through Hana they have a $ 40 limit.

This is a quirky little place with an unusual assortment of grocery, souvenir, recreation and hardware items. I was really surprised and delighted to find a small selection of gluten free items. Sure, it doesn’t have everything, but we are on an island for goodness sake. Enjoy the bounty that is here. If you don’t find the grocery item you are looking for, you can try the grocery store up the hill, but this place is definitely worth checking out. Read the bulletin board outside to get a better sense of what the community is like.

this is a really cool local place with a little of this and that. If you adventure down the Hana Hwy and need some supplies this is one of the two main stores. we stayed overnight in a private and house and picked up a dvd and snacks and beers, Really nice folks after the onslaught of daily tourist cut out for the ride back up to the weirdness of the big city. If you are lame and don’t prepare then you will stop here or the H ranch, think before you travel.

Expensive prices. We stopped to get water. The worker at the counter was extremely helpful– she gave us a free map and explained where to go to find the nearby caves, beaches, waterfalls, and the seven pools.

Overpriced. Every time I visit Maui, I visit the Hasegawa General Store. This store has not changed at all throughout my childhood, and now I’m in my late twenties. I love going there, since it is sentimental, but it is very overpriced and dirty. I know they can probably do some upgrades to at least make it cleaner, less smelly, and more organized. But maybe it’s just«Maui livin.» They do have most of whatever you need though. Always a good stop before our camping trip in Kipahulu.

so this place has random things from hardware, to frozen and packaged food items, to fishing gear and souvenirs. It is over-priced, but its really the closest place to buy these items for many miles around. I liked the postcards and the books because they were pretty and cheaper than other souvenir items in the nearby stores. If you’re buying items because you have no other choice that’s one thing, but if you have time to plan in advance I would recommend getting these on the other side of the Island. One cool thing is the bulletin board located just outside the entrance to the store because it has some local news about the townspeople, when food trucks will be closed for vacation, and other important thing occurring within the local town. They also have a bunch of brochures which you can get some info on other tourist activities, but if you really need something ask the people in the store for some tips bc they are super friendly and kind. Just smile and say, «aloha»

Crazy layout and nothing worth eating here. Walk through, get a coke or beer. It’s for local farmers to buy dog food and twine.

I specifically wanted to come to this store, as my maiden name is Hasegawa and I wanted a photo & t-shirt. :). This is one of two general stores in the entire town of Hana. They seemed to have just about everything. The cashier lady was very nice. I bought a couple of t-shirts. They also own a gas station across the street. I absolutely loved this store!

We went to theis store May 5⁄2015. Cute little store with a lot of history. Looks like mainly locals around. A quick note before I move on– Be sure to do a majority of your grocery shopping in Kahului.(Especially milk and eggs! Milk was $ 8.69!) Not only are the basic main items more expensive, THEREISNOFRESHMEAT. So, if nothing else, be sure to get your fresh meat(pork, chicken fish, whatever) at a grocery store in Kahului(or maybe Paia) Other than that. This general storehas basic items. They do have limited frozen foods, limited fresh vegetables, and some canned goods. Being a general store they also carry basic tools, basic parts, drinks, coffee, ice, candy, and souvenir shirts(Ill get to that next) Their souvenir shirts are cute. I don’t know how much of a souvenir buyer you are, but you should consider getting a little gift for yourself or loved ones. We bought 2. They both say«I survived the Road to Hana… Hasegawa General Store, Maui» Plus we bought 2 bumper stickers that say the same. FYI –Credit cards ARE accepted here!

We need to buy some souvenirs of our memorable trip to Hana Road. This was suggested by our local friend. Boy, love our t-shirts design, it simply says plainly our experience. Only few in this modern world still held the store name as general store. It’s history carries it all. They sell almost everything, like a hardware, pharmacy, convenience, deli in one package. Price is about average for like us tourists. Their stock is plenty and some unique items are on display that you cant help but buy and take it home with you.

Whatever we couldn’t find at Hana Ranch Store, Hasegawa had it. They have a lot of non-grocery related items here… cups, pitchers, bug repellant, etc. The bug repellent came in handy as the bugs in Hawaii love the blood of mainlanders. This store was a short walk from our resort, which was next door. Would definitely come here again when we return. Return Factor — 90%

If you are one of tourists like myself and went to explore«Road to Hana» for the first time, by the time you went thru all of those dozens of «one way» roads and bridges and feel very tired — you need some place where you can«re-fuel» yourself at Hana. I heard about«Hasegawa Store» before our trip to Hana, yet wasn’t aware that they have almost everything you need — no matter if you are just passing by like ourselves or if you are living here. Pricewise it’s may be a little bit more expensive comparing to «central» Maui — but, not as even remotely close to those«scary» price marks we would expected for such remote location. So, after 3 hours of driving thru«Hana Highway» we found this place to be our Oasis to «re-fuel» ourselves with snacks, drinks and ice cream ;-) Nice selection of foods and snacks!!!

It should be renamed the Hasegawa Mall because there is nothing else in this city. A good 40 miles from civilization, the residence here have no choice to come in here for their grocery needs, hardware needs, plumbing needs, kitchen needs, household needs, etc. It old, stanky, stinky and really has nothing in it. Not sure why people give it such high marks. I guess being the only thing in town, they are just happy to see it.

Hasegawa’s is your lifeline to basic necessities, especially if you are visiting beautiful, peaceful, rural Hana. The prices aren’t gouged by any means, well maybe for gas, but if you’re in a bind, you have to pay up! The original store burned down and location(#2 if I’m not mistaken) is near the original location and is pretty much smack dab in the middle of Hana town. It’s within walking distance to Hana Bay, ballpark and Travaasa hotel. Awesome place to grab snacks for the beach or to take back with you to where ever you’re staying. They’d do killer business if they had a food takeout counter!

Hasegawa powers your staycation! Seeing the $ 8.49 gallon of milk in a Unilocal photo, I stocked up on provisions for our 3-day Hana trip. When we stopped in for some perishables, I was actually surprised that most items aren’t quite confiscatory as I’d imagined and they are pretty well stocked. Prices are similar to a convenience store, but as the name suggests, they carry everything from pvc pipe and home repair hardware to fresh eggs, produce, meat, Maui souvenirs and cook books. This place is a Godsend for persihable items you’ll need if you want to put your villa/condo/rental’s kitchen to use. The booze selection is limited and a bit pricey. Grab your scotch in town before hitting the road to Hana because they only had jack… :(

When I used to travel to Hana as a boy with my family, this store was in a different location. It burned down a number of years ago and moved to its current site which looked oddly familiar. I recollected, and I found out I was right, that it is now housed in what was once the theater in Hana. I remember watching Elvis Presley movies here in the 60s! Well, this is a «must visit» if you find yourself in Hana. There’s another store in this town, but this one takes the cake. You can browse the aisles and find all kinds of weird stuff that is the charm of this store. If you can hum a few bars of the song that was written about Hasegawa’s many years ago, it will bring a smile to your face as you shop.
