Located right in between I-68 and I-70 in that weird skinny mountainous part of Maryland, the Blue Goose Market is a very pretty sight in a beautiful mountain setting. The problem is — once you see it, you have to drive about 7 more miles on the Interstate before you can exit and then make a series of turns to get back to it. Luckily — the entrance back onto the interstate is right there too. And it can be worth it if you want to pick up some nice Appalachian goods but beware — the prices border unapproachable. That is too bad because there are a lot of very delicious things here that I really wanted to try. Those fire-hot pickled eggs were like $ 15 for a jar — yikes! All those beef jerkies and such were also expensive and forget about the produce — it looks beautiful but the prices are not. The Blue Goose Market is definitely a novelty.

The best apple pie ever! Great crust & the fillings are full of apples baked just right, cooked but still retaining their chunky shape! Does anyone know what kind of apples they use? Their mixed berry pie is also very good.

Blue Goose Market in Hancock, MD.(used to be Hepburns and actually had local produce) is now nothing more than a glorified overpriced grocery store/nick nack shop. Enjoyed it much more as Hepburn’s personally. Pros: — Clean/New interior and very nice inside. Cons: — Rude/bad personality employees, including the owner. — Overpriced goods that can be gotten elsewhere for cheaper(ie. the pies are just frozen and shipped in and warmed up, the sauces/relishes/jams are shipped in from other places, meaning there is hardly any actual«local» items in the store). One example also would be the«local» honeycrips apples this summer that were triple that of the store or hell in the orchard about 40 miles down the road. — The otherside of the store, the nick nack area, is just things bought from other suppliers and marked up to a ridiculous extent. When I used to stop by Hepburn’s it was because of the local produce or at least what I assumed was local produce at a decent price that was fresh. Now this store is an overpriced place that offers nothing really locally made as there is no local produce/crafts in Hancock outside of small residential areas. Which would be fine if it wasn’t so high in price when I can drive down the road to the owner’s other store, Pittmans, and get food for less or even drive 10 minutes into Berkeley at Food Lion and get it even cheaper. There are plenty of orchards not far from Hancock, 15 – 30 miles, that you could get an actual local area produce for 10x cheaper than this place. Those who say the pies are great are just buying frozen versions, could get the same product going to the grocery store and getting Mrs. Smiths apple pies for much cheaper at about $ 4, a whole pie there is about $ 15 lol. I believe the term«local» is tossed around too easy these days lol, in a 30 – 40 mile radius around Hancock I can show you every place to get fresh LOCAL produce of that area for a good price. So I guess stop by here if you don’t mind dumping your wallet on random things you get can get elsewhere for much cheaper, nothing really unique here.

Do yourself a favor and stop here for pie. You won’t regret it. We had the strawberry rhubarb and more than a month later, I’m still thinking about that pie. I want it now. And again tomorrow. And the day after that. So yeah, I would definitely return. We also spent some time browsing the store. I’m a sucker for these kinds of places — all the little jams, salsas, and candies. There was also a good choice of local beers. I could spend so much money on everything here. Luckily I have decent willpower and know I can’t possibly eat everything I forever want to purchase. The workers were also extremely nice. They left us alone to look around until we needed something. When checking out, we were offered silverware to take back to the hotel. Good thing because that’s definitely something I would have forgotten. This place isn’t far off the freeway. Seriously, if you’re driving nearby, please go!

Best Dutch Apple pie ever! Their pie is simply exquisite and it keeps for a good week after purchase. A warm slice with vanilla bean ice cream is just heavenly. Their apple cider donuts and ginger bread men are also delicious. I also love their savory cracker mix. Awesome with saltines or oyster crackers.

My daughter and I were driving up to Ohio and saw this place and decided to stop. We spent an hour in there and walked out with three pies, all kinds of other goodies and drinks, and were back on our way. We loved it so much we stopped on the way back too. The funny thing is, we’re getting ready to go to Ohio today and the only thing my daughter is worried about is that we need to stop at the pie store on our way.

My friends were ranting about the Blue Goose pies and I didn’t know if it would be worth the stop because I wanted to get home. BUT please stop. When you’re headed East on 70 and about 16 miles from Hagerstown Outlets, take the Hancock exit. Turn left and you’ll see the country store there on your right. Then you can immediately get back on the freeway. There is an entire bakery in the back with pies galore lined up on a long table. You MUST get the apple pie. It can be the regular apple or the dutch apple but geeze louise, so heavenly. You can put a slice in the toaster oven for 10 minutes and it’s perfect. I never used to like apple pie until now. The crust is buttery and the apples are real chunks. It’s just the right of sweet. And it was all gone before I even had time to get some vanilla bean ice cream.

Great Find right off the Highway. I saw this place on my way to Frederick and thought about stopping. We decided on the way home to give it a shot. Good Choice. I had a great opportunity to taste numerous apples to finally distinguish why I like Fuji apples over the rest. I knew I liked them but when you try 8 different apples, one realizes that Fuji is the best for my palette. They had samples of veggie chips, straw, pretzels, popcorn, cider, and a few other things. Free sample make me happy. They carry numerous small company foods like Rothchild Farms products(Urbana OH), McCutcheon’s old fashioned sodas, Catoctin Popcorn(Frederick, MD), Jake & Amos Amish style fruits and etc.(PA), Stonewall, and other various country store products. We bought some bulk supplies of Roasted peas, Wasabi Peas, soda(good vanilla cream), and mini Buckeyes(OSU-Michigan game today makes this a must). The chocolate for the Buckeyes was odd tasty so i wouldn’t by them here. The pies seem pretty costly at $ 15. They had a a few in the front for $ 10, which still seems high. I never buy pies because I have enough family members with pie talent to avoid spending that much. Good stop and relaxing. They also have donuts that looked good. I wouldn’t mess with their whoopie Pies as they didn’t have the good filling in them.

Love this place, always stop and get pies every time I come through. Nothing like a fresh baked pie.
