TACODELMAR! TDM! Ah this place is the best. I have been hooked on this place for over 8 years or so now. This is the location that started it all. I would take this over chipotle any day! Want some good food?! Stop here! Grub down and enjoy my fellow Unilocalers!

I used to live in Anchorage back in 2008 – 2013 took my family here in Tudor Rd location. It was our first time and would be the last to all Taco Del Mars out there for me. The reason why they are slow in preparing your food is that they weigh everything in a scale. It’s discouraging to see and sad, really? Am I in Russia? There’s no better place to eat authentic Mexican food but at the local Taco Shop. If you hear a Mexican Polka blaring in the kitchen, you’ll know you’re in the right place!!!

Perhaps the management has changed since 2012 because this spot doesn’t seem the same as what’s been described in the lower-star reviews. It’s not the best but it’s not the worst; I’d say it’s above average. The space is in a strip mall, it is clean inside, and the staff were fine – not overly friendly but not impolite either. I’ve had their fish taco combo plate twice in the last two weeks and both times it was fine. The build-your-own options are a nice touch here, and everything I’ve eaten has tasted fresh enough and didn’t come back to haunt me later. Summary: Not as good as some of the taco vendors in the local cart pods but lighter than many sit down Mex in PDX(i.e. Original Taco House, La Caretta), and better(and fresher) than any Taco Bell for just a few bucks more.

Just stopped in here for lunch and I was so please with the service and the food that I believe they deserve a review! Our cashier was patient and very nice and our tacos were all fresh, hot, and very delicious! I am a taco obsessor and these definitely were up to par, as I have tried many local Mexican restaurants. A great family-friendly place to eat that is very affordable.

Food was all COLD!!! Blah! Not just me, my whole family complained the meat m beans were cold. People working here couldn’t care less. Ill be avoiding Taco Del Mars. You can get way better food ANYWHERE! Try the hot cabinet at any quick mart for a way better burrito. Oh the bathrooms were gross too! I’m just happy the place didn’t make me or my family sick.

I eat here at least once a week. The food has always been great and consistent. Tonight was not the case. I ordered a taco salad, one of my usuals. The shell was stale and I love to eat the crispy shells. I told them the shell was stale and could I possibly have a new shell. They gave me a new shell from same place the original one came from. Tore off a piece and of course it was stale also. I gave it back to them and they said nothing. No apology or offer for something else. There are two Women that work there, that are like unfriendly robots and I am a regular. The Guy that works here is great. So nice and friendly and will substitute items without charging 50 cents each. My daughter does not like beans on her nachos, so he puts rice on instead. One more gripe. They should offer quest as an option with kids meal instead of just salsa. My kids want the cheese and they charge 50 cents extra and don’t give you the salsa. I have been the only customer in here at times and the tables are dirty. Annoying.

No more $ 5.00 after 5 P.M. specials. Bummer. Also, I won’t miss the unfriendly, whispering gals working the line. I used to eat here twice a month and never got so much as a «nice to see you» or «how are you today?». I agree with the cold food. I think the owner doesn’t care about customer service, or may not be aware of the lack in it. I’ve never been a fan of tipping before you eat your food. If it sucks, can you take your tip back? I’ll gladly tip afterward, if it’s good. It will probably go out of business if the owner won’t step in. This is the same reason allot of the Quizno’s failed. Though, I blame the Quizno’s owners more than their workers. Hilltop(Hwy. 213) location in Oregon City is a much better ran operation, as is the store on Hawthorne Blvd.

So usually I would give them 10 stars. However tonight we were quite disappointed. I go to taco del mar on a regular basis and I usually get awesome service and great tasting food. The service was as horrible as The food. The woman behind the counter was working so slow I thought she would fall asleep on the spot. Every time she asked me a question I would have to ask her to repeat herself at least 2 times because I couldn’t hear a word she was saying. The two employees kept talking to each other the whole time and it was obvious that they did not want to be there helping us. The food was cold, and stale. After we paid and sat down, the 2 employees went in the back and all we could hear is them laughing, very unprofessional.

I may be overly excited by this restaurant. I know its a chain, but I recently devoured the best burrito I’ve had in Portland since I came here in ’08. Once I saw the Taco del Mar tagline of «mission style burritos,» I had to try one. Simply, I’ve been trying to find a nummy burrito in a nasty burrito burg. Tacos del won me over with the ‘build your own’ style and variety of choices. Pinto, refried and black beans are available, chicken or beef three types of salsa… and even though sour cream and guac are extra, I still got out of there for under 8 bucks with chips and a drink! It was a damn fine burrito, and i wasn’t hungry for at least another 24 hours post burrito consumption.

I LOVE Mexican food. The spicier the better. While they don’t have anything paticularly spicy, it is still one of my favorite place to eat. The manager is very friendly and knows me despite the fact that I only eat here two times a month. The rest of the staff is just as friendly. If you’re looking for a quick bite and Mexican is your craving I highly recommen this place.

If McDonald’s is the junked 1989 Camry, Taco del Mar is the Mustang convertible. While Taco del Mar is definitely fast food, it’s a whole other breed… it’s a place that I actually feel okay going to and eating. They have a good menu – nothing expansive or particularly inventive(but hey, it’s fast food, right?) – but you can watch them make your burrito and choose from an adequate variety of tortillas(like whole wheat), meats, and salsas. I like the fact that they have tasty black beans. The burritos are pretty large, but often have a lot of rice in them. The price is comparable to Burgerville… cheap enough to be called fast food, but definitely on the higher end. If you get chips and salsa, be sure to ask for the pico de gallo instead of salsa, which is much tastier and fresher. There’s adequate sitting room, but I really wish they’d bring back the bar with all the hot sauces. :(
