The Swiss Miss

Words cannot describe how horrible this establishment was yesterday. We stopped in for lunch yesterday and experienced:
–what appeared to be alcoholics running the place, the woman yelling at the man for being «loaded», and loud enough that the café area all hushed in reaction.
–the man serving tables had horribly dirty hands and finger nails. It took him 25 minutes to bring out 3 sodas, and our two burgers and and one grilled cheese took an hour, the bill request after taking 30′ more, resulted in us handing them cash and leaving (yes we asked if it covered it)
–note that menus had NO PRICES.
–a woman entered while we were there, inquiring about her order that had been placed an hour ago. Rather than discuss amongst themselves, the woman yelled at the man that had taken the order then AT THE CUSTOMER! She refused to give her a refund, she challenged her to show proof to her credit card when she said she would simply contest the charge, the owner called her a bitch, insulted her upbringing, and patronized her by sarcastically calling her names. The customer remained calm in asking for a simple refund, and was clear that she was no longer interested in the food that appeared to still not be prepared. It was shocking.
–we witnessed 6 groups of people leaving after not being greeted or waited on after some time waiting.
–we were told there was no tap water (scary to think how they are cooking or cleaning)
— asked for a bathroom… And the response was «someone went and messed it up for you, so you can go to the train station».
Between the poor food, rude and unacceptable behavior on the owners part, and the nearly 2 hours we won’t get back… this was a bad choice.

Horrible human beings work here! I wish I could give zero stars for this place. The place was clearly busy and we were told it would be a 30-​min wait. We were completely fine with that. After 50 minutes, I went inside and very nicely asked if there was an estimate for how much longer. The woman told the man who was working the carry-​out window that she hadn’t yet started the order. I asked the man for a refund since the order wasn’t ready. The woman who was cooking turned around and started screaming at me in clear view of her customers inside and outside. She called me a b*tch, a princess, and said my mother should have taught me better manners. Several customers walked out of the line and the restaurant. She also threatened to dispute my claim to my credit card company that I did not receive my order. She threatened to call the police on other customers in the restaurant who left cash and said they were leaving because they couldn’t believe how she reacted. I can understand if a place is busy but this was no way to treat customers. I’ll be dealing with my credit card company to remove the charge.

Horrible service and food. The lady in the back was arguing and cursing at the waiter continually. It felt like total chaos. Waited over an hour for the food.

We waited 10minutes to be visited by a server who didn’t take our order for another 10. When the food came, we only received half of what we ordered. The rest never came. I didn’t wait for it, we left shortly after the kitchen staff started screaming at another customer calling her a «b*tch» in the process — in front of my two 3 year old kids.
DO NOT GO HERE.
There is another ice cream /​snack shop 1 block north that was great.

Worst place ever. Owner yelled at a customer who had been waiting over an hour. Food tastes like it’s frozen and then just fried. Waiter only appeared every 20 minutes. I asked for the check when the food came (after waiting an hour and seeing that it took them 20 minutes to bring a check and then bring it back) and I didn’t get it for another half hour.
Don’t come here, they don’t even have tap water or bathrooms.

I’m giving this place one star simply because there is nothing lower; my friend and I stopped in here for food which was an awful mistake since it’s known for icecream apparently. But our phones were dead and after exhausting ourselves from hiking, we just figured we would try it.
The waitress is probably a really great human but was an awful waitress and couldn’t really describe any of the food; I got a steak and cheese and my friend got a BLT. My steak and cheese was on regular sandwich bread, the meat used was not a cut I am familiar with or even meat I would give my dog, I understand that most places are going to serve you frozen meat, but the texture was so off from meat. I only ate a few bites because I ate a hair. My friends BLT was a sick joke, it had one piece of bacon that was torn apart into 4 or 5 pieces and spread out on bread. She also found hair in her sandwich and chips.
As we were leaving the lady running everything was cashing people out and while we were waiting in line to pay, she yelled at two separate groups of customers.
I would come back to this place but just to pop my head in and see if they put anymore tacky inspirational decals on the walls because it would be really remarkable if they could fit any more on there.

I have reached my monthly wireless data cap and writing this review wont help. But i dont care. It is important. We have already been through this nightmare and no one else needs/​deserves it.
Bottomline: be prepared to wait for one hour-​that is right, one freaking hour if not more, for the most simple, easy to make food such as fries. But that is not the worst of it. If u dare to or have the balls to ask about ur food or complain about the wait… YOU ARE DOOMed! Because the server, the blonde one, will scream at u, yell at u, humiliate u to a point where u start to believe it is YOUR own fault to even say something about the wait or lack of service!
There is more. If u cant wait any longer (usually after 30 – 40 min) and u wanna leave. Omg. Be ready to get schooled by the same blonde server. And did i mention she is one hell of a door slammer? Everytime after she talks to the customer she slams the door like she hates people and the world, in general.
I had more to say but i am gonna stop here. Never ever go to this restaurant unless u like to be abused, verbally and… probablly mentally.

Horrifing demeaning service. Seems there are a great many comments regarding the truly rude and abusive service at this place. I was screamed at for suggesting that the frys were under cooked and that we had been waiting too long. I was mortified. Better be on your best behavior if you really want to go here because you and you family may be publicly abused. See other comments on Unilocal and trip advisor.

After waiting in line for almost 20 minutes we got up to the window, asked one question and immediately the lady (older blonde woman) was rude to us and acted annoyed with our one question about the soft serve flavors. We ordered a «large» ice cream and were rudely asked if we needed 2 spoons. We asked for 4 please, to share with our kids and she said, «Four?!?» We then said that we would just take our business elsewhere, she yelled at us as we were walking away, «Are you serious?!» So obviously we do NOT recommend this place.

Terrible service at the walk up window on Sunday for lunch (Aug 23^rd). The girl who took our order had zero personality and acted like she was annoyed that we were making her work. As we were waiting a long time for our takeout order, we watched not less than 6 people walk away because the girl just wouldn’t open the walk up order window even though she was standing right there.

We came here for breakfast on Sunday, August 23, 2015. I had a negative overall experience. There are three items on the breakfast menu: a egg and cheese sandwich (with bacon, ham, sausage, or steak), chipped beef, and sausage gravy. My first two choices (chipped beef and sausage gravy) were not available. We were also permitted to order any item cooked in the fryer (like French fries). It was about 15 minutes until lunch, and being to order off the lunch menu would have been appreciated, but that request was denied.
I tried to order tap water but was informed they do not serve free tap water in glasses. I could have ordered a bottled water. Some people drink water for health and don’t like the waste of water bottles.
There was a mistake on my check, which I ended up ratifying because I was in a hurry.
The wait staff was courteous. The food was average.
I would not come here again and wish I had gone somewhere else for this meal. Overall, I think this business could try harder to satisfy its customers.

Owner had meltdown against her two Skills USA employees during my order calling them idiots and demeaning them in front of customers. Looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Please don’t give people like this your business.

If you’re in the mood for ice cream, just walk down to Coops. It’s only a 30 second walk away. I say this because of the awful experience we had by simply asking the horrible woman behind the counter if they were open. There was a sign on the door that stated the dining room was closed but to inquire at the window for orders. So that’s exactly what we did. Oh what a mistake that was. This C U Next Tuesday cops the worst attitude possible and begins to explain to us like we were 3 year olds what the difference was between being open and being closed. Her tone was rife with sarcasm. We couldn’t believe what we were hearing. My wife pointed out the sign that we read which only aggravated her more. She is the most unprofessional person I’ve met and she could not care less about customer satisfaction. Do not go to Swiss Miss. Period. Unless I hear from the owner that she has been fired. I will not change my opinion of this place. A place that considers this ***** employable is not a place worth visiting.

Good not great. Your standard ice cream shop, but they do give HUGE scoops. Would try the place down the street next time

I came here for ice cream twice in two days while on a short trip to Harper’s Ferry. The scoops were HUGE and definitely worth it! However, I knock two stars off for the service. The woman in charge, possibly the owner, just really killed the vibe of this place. Came off as rude. The second time, she was yelling at her staff for having trouble with the credit card machine.

Great little ice cream shop, also selling flavored slushies, custard, milkshakes, and fried Oreos. The serving sizes are bigger than you’d expect! Grab a cone and walk across the street to enjoy your food with an amazing view of the junction of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.

This is NOT soft serve! Swiss Miss offers frozen custard, which is far superior to your run-​of-​the-​mill soft serve ice cream. I greatly enjoyed my peach milkshake, but envied my friend’s vanilla-​chocolate-​swirl cone — the chocolate was rich and amazing!

Excellent soft serve! Choc and vanilla swirled on a waffle cone! Loved every bite of it :) right about of creaminess and yummy texture!
Also they have a few benches to sit outside — excellent for people watching! Friendly service and a fun atmosphere!

For $ 5, you get a HUGE scoops (not just one scoop, maybe 3 scoops) of ice cream. Unless you can eat a pint of ice cream all by yourself, I suggest you get one and share it with 2 people.
Considering how big the portion is, I guess it’s a good value but the flavor/​quality/​taste of ice cream was disappointing. Ice cream wasn’t creamy or flavorful. Also there are pieces of ice in the ice cream…
They also have shaved ice cone/​slush (Hawaiian ice?).

This review is for the hot dogs at The Swiss Miss. They were just okay. Maybe if we had hiked for longer and were hungrier they would have tasted better.
I’m sure the ice cream here is much better.
