Classic New Jersey diner. It’s normal to see a big rig or two parked outside. Located on an island in the middle of the high way, time stands still here and I love it. I went here a while back with an old love and although they didn’t offer much for her vegan diet, we still enjoyed the service and atmosphere a lot. There was a young kid who served us who must have been no older than maybe 16. He was very polite and attentive. As most of the diners in north Jersey are renovating and trying to fancy their places up, the Bendix Diner retains that classic diner feel that drew me to it in the first place.

Great diner with wonderful employees. It’s pretty worn down(on the inside and outside), but the food still tastes great, giant portion sizes, and good prices. Perfect for a late night meal!

this is a place that has fallen far from grace. obviously the people currently running this establishment have forgotten service and hospitality. i recently popped in late at night for a bacon and egg sandwich to go. the sandwich was cold, the place was dirty. not to mention six dollars. i find it hard to concur with the reviews i read as this is the third time i had this experience. stale bread–

Though, this place is typically known as a Truck Driver’s pit stop to eat and rest, it’s also a great and cozy diner for the general population. The staff are friendly and courteous. What left an impression was that after our 3rd visit, the staff knew what we wanted to order and how we liked it cooked. This place not only serves a hearty and plentiful breakfast for a great price, the burgers; specifically the pizza burger is good. Hard to find a good tasting pizza burger nowadays among the many diners in NJ. I have to say breakfast is the best. You get what you pay for and then some. Frequented Bendix Diner a lot with my loved one which will always hold a special place in my heart. You know what is said; a man’s heart is through his stomach, well so is a a woman’s heart as well. Love good food and good diners. The only downfall are the selection of desserts. Hence the 4-star rating. Highly recommend to take your special someone to breakfast and make a lifetime of great memories. It’s a diner style out of a movie. Love it!

This diner seems to be stuck in the 1960s. Come here if you want real old skool feel to the point that you are willing to put up with some grime. It was near empty when we arrived, which says a fair bit about the place. The food was very decent and we paid what was expected. Chicken Sandwich, Fried Chicken and the Burger was average diner fare. Service was attentive and that was pretty much what stood out from this experience.

If you’re not in a hurry this diner is just fine for you. They are very slow paced and the service is friendly but don’t expect them to check on you or bring you a bill in a timely manner. The food was average but good enough for a standard breakfast of two eggs, sausage, hashbrowns and toast($ 5.50). The prices are great. I would come back.

1. The best waiters to talk with in the world. Talk with John D. What a guy! Beautiful! Yes he is blind. He runs the place with love. Kids running around. His family operation. All love. 2. You can sit in a booth here forever. 3. Other patrons are great to talk with. Real folk. 4. Classic greasy spoon diner food. Pancakes /fries /onion rings /coffee forever 5. Best neon sign on any diner anywhere. 6. Best interior old school diner environment. My friend pointed out the old silver refrigerators/iceboxes with the big swing handles. This place has been in movies, including Goodfellas, it’s that authentic.

Worst diner I’ve ever been to. Ordered 3 meals for 3 people, each meal was given to us 15 mins apart, the broccoli came after we all stopped eating, and even that tasted like crap.

Good for a quick stop. Good for truckers on the go. The menus were sticky and gross. Food was meh. My French toast was undercooked inside. The hand dryer in the women’s restroom was cold. Not a lot of workers, but I did like it that the chef brought my food to me. I wouldn’t go back. There are better diners.

This diner is a staple for anyone who lives in NJ. It is a must! Go there and order the pastrami. I don’t like pastrami, I never eat it. But when I go here I do! The thing I love most about it is not only is the food great, but the atmosphere is worth the trip alone. I can go there at 3 am in my pj’s and be just as welcomed and treated the same as if I went for dinner in a dress and heels!

This is an old greasy spoon but I’m very fond of this place. I grew up in Heights and started coming here as a teenager. Their portions are large and their prices are very reasonable. All items LISTED are fresh. I can’t vouch for the entire menu. Recommendations: Meats: Pastrami/Corned Beef Sandwiches(on the grille) are to die for… then again the butter on the grille might kill you! Chili, Burgers, Pork Chops, and Virginia Ham. Pasta: Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan *sauces are sweet. Breakfast: Anything. Soups: Bean, Chicken and any cream soups(all are homemade). Dress Code: I’ve scene people wearing pajamas with clogs. Need I say more?

If your an elitist who thinks you deserve 5 star service with waitresses putting a bib on you this is not the place, its a diner! However, if you want quality Diner food at prices which wont destroy your wallet this is the place! Portions are pretty good to which I like. The blind man John who runs the place is the nicest guy in the world.

I stopped by the Bendix diner, I wasn’t thinking. It’s a throwback to a time when standards didn’t exist and anything was better than nothing. When Jersey was the dumping ground for everyone and Sinatra crooned to adoring eyes. How the Bendix diner is still in business is the true miracle here. The building is cool, the shiny metal exterior puts you right there in the 1950’s. When everything was powdered from the milk to the eggs. Do yourself a favor and take a pic and keep going. There ain’t noth’in here worth eating. The first warning comes when you realize the windows haven’t been washed since Truman was prez and it goes downhill from there.

40 years ago it was half decent, nowadays just plain awful, the waiter/cook was smoking while working, no gloves on, he took my order and I watched him prepare my lunch from a counter seat, smoking all the while. A cheeseburger deluxe, standard as standard gets, well not here; the meat was grayish and cooked well on half and very rare on the other. broken grill? the ”bun” a large, seeded one was very stale and fell apart with each bite attempt, the fries were the same, some well done, others almost raw. the lettuce was browning, the tomato was green and sour, the raw onion had a slime on it, the tiny cup of cole slaw was disgusting, I love slaw, this was made over a week prior. it was warm out 85 or so, no air conditioning, the coke glass had lip marks on it, when I told the burly cook-waiter he threw me a straw! I get this platter at Meadowlands often $ 6.95 everything is top grade, plus you get onion rings on the fries, got my bill and it was $ 8.50 for the deluxe burger, and $ 1.50 for the coke I left on the counter…$ 10 for crap. I tossed the guy $ 11(a 30 cent tip) and drove off saying never again, he followed me out the door saying something about my being a cheap mother_______! I waved 1 finger goodbye as I departed for the last time, the creepy fact is I can see the diner from my upstairs window. uggghhhh

I stopped by here while on a work trip to Teterboro Airport. This was a great surprise find, as the run down looks of the place hide some wonderful food inside. I had a burger, and it was spectacular, just a great slice of an American favorite from a very American restaurant. The fries were marvelous as well. It was all topped off by a fresh milkshake. The food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait for a very fresh, tasty meal. The wait also allowed me to enjoy this very original American diner, it felt like being transported back to another era, and it was all genuine. The waitress was very friendly. The prices were pretty average for this part of the country, it was well worth the price paid. If your aviation adventures take you through Teterboro, or you’re in the area for any reason, I highly recommend a stop at the Bendix Diner!

I thought the pancakes were incredible. It’s a shame it wasn’t fresh syrup. I enjoyed my bacon and extra crispy French fries. Good establishment straight out of 1960 ‘s.

I was here on a quiet Sunday night a few years back, but I think it’s about time I gave my applause to a very nice diner, and one particularly extraordinary gentleman. The Bendix is classic New Jersey Diner Americana. Neon exterior, basic yet comfortable interior, and a predictable yet well-executed menu. Seeing as my visit was a few years ago, I couldn’t even begin to remember what I ordered. But I’m certain there was nary a complaint. And that’s because of the extraordinary gentleman, our waiter. We found him a bit odd at first when he didn’t write down our orders, and never looked at anyone in the eye… Slowly the clues started to build, and we were able to ascertain that he was in fact, unbelievably-but-truly, completely blind. I have encountered few human beings with such courage in my lifetime. To witness this man memorizing our orders with no mistakes, navigating the restaurant with grace, and even serving our meals to us was an incredible thing to behold, worthy of immense respect and praise. Never before had a man in the food service industry so deserved the tip we gave him. I don’t know if he still works there, but I shan’t soon forget him. If your job is hard, unrewarding, or doesn’t pay enough, just think about the blind waiter at the Bendix diner, and you will know the meaning of dedication.
