Bagel Express

I like this place but the coffee not so much. I’ll r3consider my star rating when i return because it could’ve been a one thing. Coffee tasted burnt and that’s a no no with me. My sandwich was great! Had a egg white hame and Swiss on rye and enjoyed every bite.

I asked for an order of bagels with a multitude of different cream cheeses. I foolishly did not check if they made the orders correctly; they did not use one specialty cream cheese asked on the bagels out of the 4 I asked for, they put plain cream cheese on all of them! I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back here again, they truly do love up to their name «Bagel Express» because they only fulfill correctly half of your order to get it to you «expressed»

I have always been treated well here. Having just moved into town from VA, I definitely don’t qualify as local or someone they know and they have good bagels.

Staff were nice and friendly, but the bagel I had was not good at all. You expect a good bagel in Jersey… not the case here. Tasted stale and just overall was not comparable to a NY/​NJ bagel.

Tried this place twice just to give them the benefit of the doubt. Always looks busy in the morning, so hey, they must have good bagels, right? Wrong. Bagels are cold and don’t taste all that fresh. I’d rather go out of my way to get a better bagel.

The New Jersey/​New York area is known for quality bagels however this bagel store manages to do just the opposite.

Pros: Bagel Express has the best coffee in Hawthorne. The owner is very nice. If you’re short on a few coins they let it slide, which is also nice of them. Their cookies are delicious.
Cons: The bagels are decent. They don’t come with much inside though. The one thing that bothers me very much is that they handle your food with no gloves. You see the person who touches your bagel handling money, touching their face/​hair, licking their fingers to open plastic bags, etc. Simply put, it’s gross and it stops me from coming in more often. I’ve also had strange experiences when delivering from here. One of their drivers will stay in my doorway talking for over 10 minutes.
Basically, it’s a good place but some small improvements would make it great.

This place is great. The people always remember you and are very friendly. One reviewer did mention that they don’t normally use gloves which is true but it doesn’t bother me really. Bagels are really good but don’t order a Taylor ham sandwich, they are pretty skimpy on the meat portion of that.

This is the best bagel place in Hawthorne. The staff is always welcoming and helpful as well as fair prices. Coffee is good and they are one of the only places that serve iced coffee. Highly recommended.

I honestly love the bagels from here but i do have one complaint. One thing that i truly HATE is that they do not wash their hands or use gloves. One moment they are charging people touching money then next thing you know it they are preparing your bagels without washing their hands or wearing gloves after touching the dirty money!!! YUCK!

I loathe Bagel Express. I never understood the meaning of disappointment until I visited this bagel shop. They have failed to satisfy me on multiple visits. Over the years I have stopped here only because of their convenient location, each time hoping that they would improve. However each visit, they have only further enraged me.
The staff is unpleasant to say the least, which probably stems from the owner being smart mouthed and sarcastic. Everytime I order a bagel, they «don’t have it.» Even going as far as to say they have never carried that bagel before – one which I was able to purchase on a previous visit.
Whenever I have had the opportunity to actually purchase a bagel from this farce of a bagel shop, it has been stale, old, or just plain inedible. What they are passing off as «whole wheat» and «pumpernickel» bagels seem to be dirty «plain» bagels. Perhaps they don’t realize that these bagels gain their names from the ingredients, not simply the color.
Once I dared to order two regular coffees from Bagel Express. The owner sloppily poured them into a cup, failed to mix them, and then handed them to me in a paper bag. Not a tray to carry them in, a paper bag! Needless to say, the coffees spilled as I was organizing my belongings into the car.
I will never return to this establishment again. If I could rate them negative stars, I would. The locals that frequent here must not know what they’re missing from real bagel shops.

Wow I just came back from this dump. Never again. I stopped by because I saw the sign «best coffee in town» (I know I know, it’s my own fault for thinking such a dingy looking place actually delivered on that). I ordered breakfast along with the coffee. The woman gives me the scorching hot, flimsy Styrofoam cup and I open the top to let it cool off while I wait. After standing around for about 5 minutes, I decided to take my first sip. HOLY HELL. I now understand why that woman sued McDonald’s. The lava liquid didn’t even make it into my mouth (thank god for the idiotic flimsy container) before giving me a burn of a lifetime on my lip. I actually teared up from the pain. The best coffee in town caused me to have a pealing lip and a blister on my thumb. What the actual fuck?
Best part, while I was quietly suffering and the woman gave me ice for my lip, she rang me up. She actually rang me up for that volcano eruption that caused tears of agony. Worst 1.50 $ ever spent. I wasn’t in the mood for an argument but I dually noted to never return and to make sure none of my friends come here either!:I don’t appreciate bad business practices. Get paper cups with holders, stop boiling your coffee in the earth’s core or don’t make your customers pay for that extremely average garbage when it burns them into tears.
The food? Also a freaking joke. There were egg shells and a hair in the omelet. I didn’t even bother eating it. I asked for egg whites with turkey sausage and spinach (need not explain that I wanted that healthy) the whole thing was doused in butter. Instead of turkey sausage they used turkey cold cuts??? It was so bizarre. The hash brown was definitely from the freezer. The omelet was tiiiiinyyy. .and you know how much I paid for this «breakfast»? $ 7.33 …uh…fool me once, screw you, I’m never coming back. STAY AWAY

This review is based on their delivery via GrubHub — not good. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches, 2 bagels with different cream cheeses and 2 just bagels. They were just… blah. Bread tasted like it was 5 days old, which I understand ordering it via delivery means it’s not 100% fresh but I mean other bagel shops and I have never had this issue. The bagels we got without anything on them were hard as rocks within the hour. These are no NJ bagels, these tasted like imitation bagels from a foreign country…
The delivery driver also got lost and thought the address wasn’t on the paper — but it was… he’s also been calling me multiple times since then and when I called back he said it was a mistake. I don’t care if it was a mistake or not, if you’re calling customers you should be clearing out your phone at the end of your shift. I shouldn’t be getting calls from you twice in a row while in a meeting and other various times. I don’t know guys, disappointing is an understatement.

This is my go-​to stop for bagels, breakfast sandwiches, cappuccino, and iced coffee since it’s right around the corner from me.
I order my bagels toasted and they come out perfectly on the outside and soft on the inside.
I find the small iced coffee to be too small, which is unusual because I usually get jittery from mediums at other places. Here though, I opt for the medium.
My only complaint is that my bf ordered a double shot of espresso and he was given a single shot. When we asked if they were sure it was a double they said it was and we were charged for the double. We couldn’t imagine what a single shot would have been, only a couple of drips it looked like… We just don’t order that anymore. Problem solved.
The pricing is very reasonable. The other day I got 1 Everything bagel toasted with cream cheese, 1 Pumpernickel same way, 1 Cinnamon Raisin toasted with butter, 1 Medium iced Coffee, and 2 bottles of water. It came out to $ 9 and change. That’s not too bad in my opinion.

Decent bagels, good breakfast and lunch sandwiches too. Prices are reasonable and service is fast and friendly. I wish they’d mix up the lunch specials a bit more though.

Nice little local bagel shop. The workers are friendly and seem to have a number of regulars as they frequently greet the person entering by using his/​her first name. The food is good/​reasonably priced and the service is quick. Portions are a little lacking (you might want to get double egg and cheese on a bagel) but overall, a nice place to get a quick breakfast.

I have been coming to Bagel Express since I was a kid. A great, family owned local business! Their bagels are the best around, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for great food at a great price.

A great place to stop in and grab a bagel sandwich or regular sandwich before heading to work, picnic, out for the day, etc.
The staff was really friendly and quick.
The prices were very reasonable.
The food was delish! Nice puffy yet crispy on the outside delicious bagels yum yum!!! They also have meats, several types of cream cheeses and coffee/​espresso as well.
Definitely will be back!
