Cool 50s-style diner with plenty of counter space(that’s what makes a diner a diner after all) and a patio. We had some time before a flight and bellies to fill, and this did the trick. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from LAX(depending on traffic of course) and there is a free parking lot behind the building. The service is friendly. The menu has a decent variety, but it’s not huge. I went with a bacon burger. At first they brought it out with cheese(rather American«cheese» yuck) which I didn’t order, but they took it back and got me a fresh one quickly. The burgers here are thin, «fast food style»… maybe 50’s style but I wasn’t born then so I don’t know; they don’t ask how you want them cooked. The burger was certainly good for a burger of that style, though I tend to prefer thicker, juicier burgers. The fries were fine. My dining companion got chorizo & eggs, which he enjoyed.

Awesome little mom and pop diner. Mostly American, 1950’s style, very Denny’s-ish(but just better) and they do have some traditional Hispanic breakfasts as well. They do have a full breakfast, lunch, dinner menu but does anyone really come to these places for anything but breakfast? I didn’t think so! I’ve been here twice(for breakfast both times, how’d you guess??) and the food is excellent and prices are very reasonable… the staff are cool too, that’s always a plus when you get served by someone who actually cares about their job! It’s the perfect place to come when you wake up at noon, you feel like having pancakes and a greasy-ass bomb ass-breakfast but you don’t wanna brush your hair or teeth and wanna just go grub!

Ordered the turkey burger with fries. Burger was good, pickles, dressing, lettuce and tomato. And cheese. Fries were a bit darker and harder. I’m assuming they were fried a bit too much. Drenched fries in ketchup. Service was quick, delightful and excellent. Dining area was clean and music was in an era from the golden 50’s. Giving it a 4 because of the fries.

Really awesome diner offering a diverse menu at impressive prices. Came here for a Christmas Eve Day breakfast and was surprises to be seated immediately despite the place being busy. Fantastic service and impressive food. The Chocolate Chip Waffle was light, crispy, and full of milk chocolate. Bacon was perfectly cooked and a hearty portion. Iced Tea was on the strong side, which I prefer anyway. Server was polite, quick, and friendly. Made for a great dining experience. Also, fun fact: same diner featured in the opening of The Purge: Anarchy. Always a great visit for a horror film fan!

I really wanted to like this place but Its doubtful that I’d be returning. The concept of a 50’s diner was nice but in reality there was nothing special. The nice but slow service deserves 2 stars. The country fried steak was okay. I also give it 2 stars. I also ordered the biscuits and gravy which were«blah»… Nothing special just extra carbs…

Great little local spot. Loved that it looks like you walked right into the 1950s. The coffee was fantastic! Was there on a slow night — I was the only person there, but the waiter did a great job. I ordered a burger and fries. For the price, it was worth it. Not the best burger of my life but good. Sat and was able to eat and enjoy my food with out feeling rushed. Sat and had a couple cups of coffee and chatted with the staff. Would probably try breakfast next time — can’t beat the prices.

For a classic Googie diner, I don’t see how you could do better. The food is good and well-prepared, the service is excellent, etc. It’s not a 2-star Michelin, but it’s better than a lot of similar places, and if memory serves it’s better than the Ships that used to be here.

Finally got around to trying Chips last night. We live nearby but somehow never made it. 5 stars for service and food, but had to take away a star because the ladies room had a crazy leak that literally stopped water on me while I was washing my hands. The rest of the restaurant was clean, no ripped vinyl seats which you see so often on older diners, and the service was impeccable. I had the turkey melt with fries and a cup of the beef barley soup. You could tell the soup was homemade, chock filling veggies and beyond delicious. The turkey melt had real sliced turkey breast, the same turkey my husband got with his t-bird turkey dinner. He said the stuffing was also homemade. The fries could definitely use a boost, they were a little bland. That’s literally the worst thing I can say about the food. Will definitely be back and of they fix the roof leak in the ladies room I will change my rating to 5 stars.

This place is amazing I been coming since I was a toddler and still going. Friendly staff, great food, affordable prices. Great place for breakfast and to start off your Sunday morning. 50’s style look and feel it really can’t get better than this.

I love this place!!! I lived in Hawthorne for 2 years and found this place right after I left. SHAMEONME! Their breakfast is amazing and give you your money’s worth. Great service, the waiters, waitress even the bust boys make you feel at home. So welcoming. The 50’s feel tops it off… Such a great place. Chips you are 5 stars in my books!

After a long road trip you get pretty hungry. I saw this place had four stars… I didn’t expect the best food ever… diner food is obviously diner food but wow this place was just disgusting. I couldn’t even finish my food. I took two bites and my iced tea tasted very odd… how can you mess up iced tea? Needless to say I left this place still hungry…

You guys still have the photo of your most loyal customer, Nobby. He died a few years back & we had the memorial service in the patio area there. Kudos! You guys are awesome!

Overall a good place to eat breakfast. They have oldies playing in the background. The 50 style dinner is cute, they can probably get rid of the Christmas plants. But overall the servers are bilingual and the food comes fast. And you have time for a long chat.

Since 1955. This classic diner has some good breakfast on its menu. I ordered two eggs over easy, hash browns, and wheat toast for $ 5.99. Basically the same as what you would find at Denny’s or Ihop but tasting a lot better and fresher.

If you want to step back into the Old School this place is for you. It is set up exactly like a Coffee Shop from times gone past with booths by the window and a counter surrounding the kitchen. Plus, they also have an outdoor patio. The food here is Americana with a hint of Mexican cuisine. It is very clean, the staff is very efficient, the coffee is good, and it is a fun place to eat. Recommended.

This is an oldie but goodie. Let this place take you back to 1950’s. Located right on corner off 119th and Hawthorne blvd. Big green building with a huge Chips signs that you can’t miss. Plenty of parking in front and back. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The male host greeted me and sat me immediately. Barbara was the perfect waitress. I didn’t have to ask for nothing she was a mind reader. Refills coffee without you asking. I love when they do that. It’s the little things. Food was good, my waffle was made perfectly. Crispy and dark.(Not burnt) Eggs over medium were perfectly executed. Bacon was not to crispy and not too soggy. Perfect just the way I like it. Nice size portions. Melted butter for waffles is a nice touch. Coffee is smooth and fresh. I am a fan of this place.

This diner is near my South Bay office so I tried them for breakfast the other day. The food is horrible –horrible –horrible. Cheap, frozen, greasy slop. Did I come on a bad day? The best part of my Chips experience was the friendly staff.
