i come here from time to time whenever im in the mood for sushi and not in the mood to drive for over 5 mins. Yeaaah i live nearby and sometimes being lazy gets the best of me BUT… im glad this place is open for business. The service is always good and the place is clean. Its more of a takeout spot but there’s like 3 or 4 stools for you to enjoy eating sushi inside. I like to bring a can or two of Sapporo(liquor store nearby) and order a couple sushi rolls. The ONLY complaint i have and yeah its actually very annoying is… they put way too much sauce on damn near every sushi roll. That’s not good and im not a «Sushi snob» but i would say its not authentic either. No? Don’t get me wrong. The sauce they put is good but jeez why add the calories, sugar and sodium to it??? i never order any sushi rolls with cream cheese and i won’t order any sushi rolls that has«spicy mayo» anymore. Overall i would say this is a good local spot but its not a place where you must go out of your way for

Food here is great but they cancelled their delivery service and that’s why I rated them lower

While looking for a new local sushi take out spot, just to try something different, I came across J Food Express which had many good reviews. We ordered sushi for two which came out to around $ 40 which I didn’t think was bad for 1 app and 4 speciality rolls. The speciality rolls list is so extensive you can read over it 4 x before deciding. My wife loved her meal which was an order of shumai and a shrimp temporary roll. I went with spicy Ninja, pepper salmon special roll, and the firefighter roll bc they were the most unique combos to me. The rolls were great size and each roll came individually packaged. I loved every roll and plan on ordering again.(take a look at the pics for a better idea)

Great prices, fast service. Delivery never an issue. Would recommend to a friend and order again. Never had a bad experience here. They’re consistent and inexpensive.

This is the best sushi in town. They are so friendly and I order some times once a week. I have not had one thing I did not thoroughly enjoy from J Food. Their hand rolls, particularly, are amazing, as are their regular rolls and specialty rolls. I definitely recommend eating here. Prices are right and although it is a smaller store front, the ambiance is quaint and comfortable.

Stopped in for a quick bite and was very impressed. They have the basics down, but really excel with the more exotic offerings. I got the«Crazy Shrimp» — Shrimp Tempura with Avocado, and the Mango Salmon Roll and both exceeded my expecations. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and even offered free hand rolls«on the house.» Tip: There’s a place to lock your bicycle right outside the window.

Well well. After all this time living in Hawthorne, and wishing a good sushi place would open up, my wishes were apparently granted, but no one told me. This place has top notch, fresh, amazing rolls, some of the best selection I have seen around, with a very creative menu. We ordered about 8 rolls, some Gyoza, pan fried udon, and everything was amazing. Next morning, here I sit still in shock that this place not only delivers, but does so very quickly, and efficiently and my order was just as I placed it! Everything was fresh and delicious. The price is on par with anywhere else, with some very inexpensive rolls for lunch and super good Japanese appetizers. Hearty rolls for dinner are beyond amazing. This is a mainly take out or delivery establishment, not to say you can’t eat there for a quick lunch, but it’s not an ambient spot– order take out and love it! The place looks«Rinky-dink» but as anyone knows, sometimes those are the best places. I rank this as high above Masago, dim sum dynasty, or anywhere I’ve had sushi in the last few years, and leave your pretensions at the door. Just eat sushi.

Excellent sushi i got spicy salmon crunch, shrimp tempura, and boston roll. $ 12 and change for lunch. I just moved to Hawthorne and is happy I live so close. Its more of a pick up place not a sit in place. I am very excited to try their specialty rolls. Very fast they said 10 minutes and when I arrived on time it was all ready!

Not usually someone who likes to write bad reviews but had sushi from this place twice and both times the sushi didn’t taste as fresh as it should have been and my wife and I didn’t feel great afterwards.

This is my go to Sushi place in Hawthorne. I used to work in Hawthorne and really only went during lunch time on some Fridays. Their sushi specials are priced reasonable and the quality of their food thus far has been good. If I lived closer, I’d probably try them out more often.

Fresh, delicious, clean, friendly, & reasonable!!! You can’t ask for more than that for take out or a sushi bar. The teriyaki sauce is like none I’ve had before. It’s addictive! Tip: FYI no tables only a bar

Since they’ve opened almost a year ago I have been coming here and never been disappointed. Their fish is fresh and the chefs are creative and nice. They will even give you a small hand roll while waiting for your order. Clean, small place but never crowded.

A hole in the wall sushi place with a lot of charm. Plenty of counter space but no tables: this a take out oriented affair. I’ve had nothing but sushi here but what I have had has been excellent when considering the price. The staff are especially courteous and pleasant; the second time I went in the sushi chef made me a complimentary hand roll while I was being rung up(which by the way, was amazing). Whenever I walk in its been empty and I’ve detected a slight sense of relief that they have a patron. Hopefully my timing has just been weird; this is place I’d be saddened to see go.

Fresh and interesting menu. Decent prices, but it seems like the portions are a tad small. The Chirashi had a great variety of fish, but I felt like for the price it was really small — more like an appetizer than an entrée.

This place is another jewel that I found using Unilocal. We were just passing through the area at night and were terribly hungry so we Unilocaled for some place nearby that had good ratings and found this place. The sushi was so fresh and tasty! We had a shrimp tempura roll, an eel roll(forgot the name) and an udon soup. All 3 dishes were terrific and delicious. It cost $ 25 for the two of us and we were considerably full by the end of it. It’s a very minimal place, no frills attached, and I quite liked the décor of the place. A quick eat for people who want to get some good sushi. Highly recommended.

JFood Express has a 5 star rating as of right now, and I’ve noticed it has been like this for a while(since they opened relatively recently). After reading some of the reviews on here, it seems fairly obvious that some of them are fake. However, some of them are definitely legit too so I needed to try it for myself to know for sure. It’s right around the corner from my boyfriend’s house and worst case scenario was if they sucked we’d just never come back. Cost/benefits analysis said to go for it. And so we did. Turns out, the food here is actually pretty good. Delivery came 15 minutes earlier than they estimated. Everything was prepared neatly and looked nice. Then we tried the rolls and they were great. We had the crazy crab, spicy tuna, boston and dancing dragon rolls. No complaints. Everything was good and fresh tasting. Not the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life of course but much better than what you’d expect from a take out/delivery only sushi place. The idea of take out/delivery only sushi is an interesting one and kind of risky if you ask me. I personally believe sushi is always better when eaten fresh at the establishment of choice and it makes a significant difference in taste if it has been pre-packaged up, sitting in a car(even if it’s only 5 – 10 minutes) and then eaten. With that said, I still found the sushi very good and will definitely continue to be a customer. The bottom line is this place delivers fresh and reasonably priced sushi so you don’t have to get out of your pijamas on a Saturday night.

I would have attached photos but unfortunately I ate all the evidence. I have to say that I’m slightly more than blown away that the town of Hawthorne can produce more than mildly acceptable sushi. The thing is… this is more than just acceptable. Frankly speaking, JFood Express contends with some of the most delicious NYC establishments I’ve visited… and I’ll admit it, I’m(confession coming in 3…2…1) a MAJOR sushi snob. I didn’t believe all the other Unilocal reviewers(sorry guys) so I had to try it for myself. I assumed failure. Boy was I proved wrong. I ordered their special rolls and the fish was fresh, delectable and downright refreshing. I’m pleased to say this will be my new sushi spot and so close to home-frankly it shocks me. Online ordering and delivery is also a HUGE plus. I bow in Japanese style respect and say«Arigato JFood Express. See you again soon… real soon.»

Just tried this place for the first time and it was an absolute success. I’m the first to say I am not one to always crave sushi. I recently aquired a taste for this cuisine. So when I do crave it I want to have it at a really good place that knows what they’re doing. I Unilocaled, «sushi» in my area and this was one of the top places that came out. After reading the reviews and seeing its star rating I knew I had to try it. So off my boyfriend and I went. The place is rather tiny, but the service and food made up for it. After all it is a food express type of place. We ordered a Shrimp Lover’s Box and Spider Crab Roll to share. Both of which came out to around $ 21, including drinks. We waited about ten minutes while our food was prepared — this including an order the chef was doing previously as well. He was quick! Our food was served to us in a lovely presentation, especially for being a food express place. After one bite I was hooked. The sushi was fresh and absolutely delicious. This coming from a person who rarely eats sushi too! They also gave us hand rolls on the house to try — I never had such rolls before and I can be a bit picky with sushi, but it was super yummy. This was a SUSHISUCCESS!
