Been ordering out from here for years! Their prices are great for what they offer, and the meals are filling. The owners, a couple, are very sweet and always make conversation! They seem to recognize regulars and remember things about them which is a nice touch. c: In the past year they’ve added more seating so you can eat there if you’d like. The décor is nothing to write home about, but lets face it, you’re there for the food!

Great fresh sushi! Owners are super friendly and the prices are very reasonable! Looking forward to trying more of their specialties. My husband and I get sushi from there at least twice a month.

Fantastic! My fiancé and I usually get take out from them every other week or so. The staff are all very friendly both on the phone and in person. We haven’t had anything bad to eat since we started going here. I would highly recommend them.

Kurumi is a nice local spot with good service. The Korean Beef Bbq was my favorite dish but I wouldn’t recommend any of the Sushi. They make a drink called Bubble Tea that is really good and definitely worth trying. If you live in the Hawthorne area and want to order something inexpensive for take out then I would recommend Kurumi. I just want to emphasize that I wouldn’t recommend eating inside as it seems that they emphasize on take out.

The Food here is awesome. Spicy mayo is seriously good and love the flavor and taste of the fish where most sushi places I have had hide/mask the fish flavor. Philly roll is way better than anywhere else and the korean beef is delicious

I absolutely love this place. The people are fantastic, the service is great, and the food is BOMB. So fresh every time and delicious! This is totally my go-to place for my sushi cravings. I totally recommend to anyone! I drive from 30 minutes away and don’t regret it everytime.

My brother stopped in for lunch the other day and really enjoyed it, so we ordered take out for dinner last night and really liked it! I had the Manhattan special roll with eel, smoked salmon, crab and avocado. It was really good. The ingredients tasted fresh and the smoked salmon was unique. With a side of steamed veggies, it is a filling dinner option. They also offer brown rice upon request, which I like. My brother commented that the spicy salmon roll is actually spicy, unlike many others he’s had elsewhere, and he was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of tempura shrimp in the heaven roll. My mom also recommends the udon bowl, which was chock full of veggies, chicken and noodles and had a satisfying umami taste. It is way better than supermarket sushi, and much more reasonably priced than sushi restaurants in the area. I will definitly go back.

Very good place. Been eating up there for a last 10 years, every time I visit my barber. Last time I’ve tried hot roll with many fishes inside, make sure you will add the cream cheese inside, so it will make the taste awesome.

This is a nice little non-descript place in Hawthorne. It’s small but comfortable, a little drafty but nice. It’s family owned, the husband is the sushi guy, the wife cooks in the back along with a an older lady. The highlights were the squid salad special with seaweed salad, really fresh and had a nice meaty taste to it, thinly sliced squid; the spicy tuna roll seemed fresh, the rice was delightfully moist; the miso soup was pretty delicious too, not watered down at all. I wasn’t too impressed with the freshness of the striped bass, a tad fishy. The spicy mayo is tasty. If you’re looking for authentic japanese sushi, wrong place; quick cheap rolls, this could work.

A friendly Korean owned Japanese/sushi shop that is good for take out during work days or when feeling that urge of Japanese style home cooking. Yes they have sushi, but what I really like is their beef dishes. Being Korean, they really know how to make beef tender and flavorful. Their Korean style BBQ meat is that feel good type of food. It’s a hidden shop in a tiny shopping center. Though there is plenty of parking spots, some commuters drop off their cars here and walk over to the Port Authority bound buses. The price point is a tad high. For a bowl of Beef Udon, it’s currently at $ 7.50. If the bowl was larger, it would be a fair price, but there is only enough Udon for 3 – 4 mouth fulls. Go to places in Hackensack or Flushing, or other more urbanized areas and you may pay for the same thing for about $ 3.99. In my book, this is a safe bet for Japanese styled comfort food, which earns the, «A-Okay,» rating.

I hadn’t been here in at least 10 years, but realized it was on my way home the other day. So glad I called in an order! The quality has improved quite a bit, but the prices remained more than reasonable. Nice people, quick service. Really take out only although I believe I saw a couple tiny tables.

Disappointed by Hawthorne’s lack of restaurants with vegetarian options, I was pleased to find Kurumi nestled in an unassuming strip mall on Goffle Road. Upon entering, I was eagerly greeted by a man in sushi chef attire, and he was happy to help me navigate the large, fold-up menu«poster», which includes photos of almost every dish. When I told him I was a vegetarian, he gladly explained what I could and couldn’t eat. He even pointed out the fact that the broth used in Kurumi’s udon soup contains anchovies and that I should steer clear of it. I appreciated that, since I wouldn’t have known any better. I ended up ordering a wide variety of items so that I could sample a lot of things from the menu: two avocado/cucumber rolls, a tofu teriyaki box(comes with a little green salad and three veggie dumplings), and vegetable tempura. The order totaled a little more than $ 22, which is more than I’d like to spend for lunch, but all that food could serve two hungry people and maybe three light eaters. Everything was fresh, carefully packed, and delicious. I could tell that my food was made with care. I really liked the tofu teriyaki, which seems to be a recent addition to the menu. I would definitely order this again. Both the sushi and the veggie tempura were above average, and I would recommend them to my vegetarian friends. Overall, I think that Kurumi is a wonderful neighborhood gem!
