My gf decided to be «happy-fat kids» and hit this place up for her ceviche before we went on to eat at Ray’s sushi. I wanted to go here mostly because I saw the live band wailing away in front of the window. The music was ok; not really my cup of tea, but I love live music regardless. But it was a tad too loud, and I couldn’t hear what my gf was saying right next to me. We were served complimentary soup with our meals(shrimp/tomato broth with bay shrimp). Her shrimp ceviche was pretty good. I ordered two carnitas tacos with rice and beans. While the beans lacked any taste, the rice was cooked well and even had small bits of corn in it. But the CARNITASWASTHEBEST I’VEEVERHAD! Deep-fried, marinated pork goodness through and through! The price was insanely cheap; for all the food we only paid just over $ 11 for dinner! The staff was very helpful, and despite the loud music, was able to accommodate us perfectly. I know it’s called«Mariscos»(Seafood) Mazatlan, but if you go here, try the carnitas! 7÷22÷08 So last night the gf and I were hankering carnitas, so since Mariscos is so close we decided to hit it up. Because we felt guilty about eating pork in a seafood joint, we were compelled to order some seafood this time. So we settled on the charbroiled trout and some prawns stuffed with Monterey cheese and wrapped in bacon(in addition to the carnitas burrito I ordered and didn’t plan on sharing). The trout was tasty, though it was a little more toasty than I’d like it. It’s grilled and finished with a special sauce that turns the fish red-looking(kind of reminded me of tandoori). But the PRAWNS! HOLYCOW! First of all, BACON… Need I say more?! These jumbo little babies were nothing short of heaven; the savory bacon and cheese complimented the sweet taste of the prawns. Some restaurants try to do this dish, but they usually skimp on either the size of the prawn or the taste factor. Let me tell you, you gotta try this! I am now officially a fan of Mariscos!

«Buenos Noches seniorita», I said. «Buenos noches senior,» the reply. I need a table for two. A special behind the cash registered showed a fried perch with rice, beans and salad special. My wife was in the mood of a deep fried fish and we got that at Mariscos Mazatlan($ 14.95 special) about 1,5 lbs. sized fish. The side dishes that accompanied the fish were Spanish rice, re fried beans topped with cheese, corn or flour tortilla(your choice) and some shredded lettuce and tomato slices. The shrimp chiviche($ 3,50) was very nice and fresh on a crunchy tostada. Just as we were seated, the hostess gave us a bowl of shrimp soup in a cup and crackers. Very delicious and warm with tiny shrimps. I counted. Three of them in each cup. Yummy! We almost ate the whole fish, even the bones because it was fried really really crunchy! The jaw of the fish is the best part! Those who know what I’m talking about, would agree. We ended up ordering an extra plate of Spanish rice as the serving in the special wasn’t enough for the both of us. The decoration was bright and reminded me of being at a beach side restaurant. The TV was showing a Mexican/Spanish soap opera and the background Mexican music was simultaneous playing. All in all a good experience. When we’re in the mood for deep fried perch and quickly, we’ll come back. If one wants to compare this place the other place(the object one hits when blindfolded), the portions are smaller and not as lively.
