Astra Cleaners of Hazlet

I will never go back!!!
After 33 years of bringing my clothing to Astra Cleaners… After watching them change hands from Pauline to the new owner who’s been there for at least 10 – 15 years… I Finally walked out on them.
I walked in to be told that the shirt that I bright in in was torn. They have damaged things in the past & refuse to except responsibility when they do so. I always gave them the benefit of the doubt and what I learned from that was… always check the clothing before bringing them in. So I always do. This shirt was clearly caught in something & pulled out hence tearing it. You can see the pinch mark v
I understand it’s an honor thing… so I never accused I only asked in several different polite ways. I kept my voice low yet I was getting screamed at.
I made it clear that after 33 years I would be willing to walk out & never come back… was she sure this is the way she wanted to treat a customer of that many years. Her response was «Smell the shirt you see it was not cleaned»
I smelt the shirt it smelt from dry cleaning fluid… the creases still sharp, the collar and cuffs were immaculate (something my husband never achieves after wearing a shirt) so I told her it’s smelt from dry cleaning fluid and that the collar & cuffs were immaculately clean. Wondering what that all proved.
I walked out and then realized I had paid for the item in advance with all the other items that I brought in… So I walked back in & pointed that out… I was told that «you use credit card no cash». So I said no problem just credit my account… I was then yelled at some more told «I cannot do that». So I said do one or the other since you say you never cleaned the shirt then credit my account or give me the cash… I don’t care. At that point she got even huffier and handed me five dollars.
They want all the respect paid in their direction but are not willing to respect the customer. They are not willing to except the possibility that they did damage. Nor are they willing to give a tiny partial compensation.
Hmmmm!

This was my dry cleaner of choice however on my last experience there when picking up the owner pointed out to me the belt loop on one of the pants ripped (they were practically brand new).She expected me to pay to fix it after they damaged it. Sorry definitely not happening and will not be returning just because of that. Lost my business for good.

Astra Cleaners is in a great location, and the owners are always friendly. They do all their cleaning on site and do an excellent, thorough job. They go out of their way to make sure you have your clothes cleaned or tailored on time or even earlier — highly recommended!
