Absolutely disgusting. I ordered the Mexicalli Chicken which was supposed to be chicken in a Mexican red sauce, cheese, scallions and jalapeño peppers. This slop came out swimming in what was like tomato sauce, with huge strips of sweet peppers, giant strips of onions and mushrooms??? Is this Mexican or Italian? At 16.00 you expect a good meal… this was sheer slop. I woukd never eat tgere again and left half of it on the plate… dusgusting…I feel like I was raped.

The food is not authentic Mexican… far from it. The environment is clean and friendly. It seems they would do better with a new chef or a new menu. The food was much better 5 or so years ago.

Well, let me just say that whatever they’re serving, it’s not Mexican food. I was born and grew up in San Diego, CA. A hop skip and a jump away from the Mexican border. This place doesn’t have guacamole on their menu, I assure you they don’t know what pico de gallo is, and they use tomato juice(not purée, juice) to make their homemade salsa, and they put carrots in it??! There was also carrots in everything else we ordered… honestly, from the first bite I could tell that this business was run by white people who have never tasted real Mexican food. They have some Mexican items on their menu, however the preparation and ingredients they use(Ken’s hot sauce to season a chicken burrito??) are one hundred percent American. Everything tasted like buffalo sauce and… carrots, so many carrots where they don’t belong. This place is clearly still open because they are a Cantina, which is a bar. But Juan Pedro doesn’t exist, and if he did, he would be disappointed. I certainly was. P. S. if the owner ever sees this, please change Chicken Asada to Pollo Asada, and do some research on your menu items.

Fajitas were excellent as well as the dessert. The homemade salsa had carrots in it so I wasn’t a big fan but that is just personal taste. It has a 2 page menu with enough variety plus specials for food a drinks posted on the wall. The staff are very friendly and I felt welcomed. Don’t let the outside fool you. I would have driven right past this place if I didn’t read the other reviews here. The inside looks a bit tired but everything is clean and fresh tablecloths were put on every table when it was reset. This is a terrific hometown type Mexican cantina.!! I watched our server work the entire room with packed tables and we never waited for anything. She was FANTASTIC!!! We will be back.

Great mexican food for a decent price. The menu isn’t huge, but choices are abundant. Choose from traditional Cantina fare(Tacos, Burritos, enchiladas. etc) to unique steak, chicken, and seafood dishes. If your looking for good food in Hazleton definitely try out Juan Pedro’s!
