Great shrimp wrap and fish Reuben sandwich. The beer was cold and the cocktails were mixed very well.

Just horrible. Food was not edible and the staff seemed very nervous and on edge because what looked like the owner, a man in his fifties, was storming around the place. Don’t go here. Bad vibes, bad food, bad service. What a disgrace.

After reading all the reviews we decided to come for dinner. The appearance of the place was very nice when you walked in and seemed pretty clean. There was some outside seating and a beachy man made area around the side where it seemed people could just hang out on adirondack chairs which I thought was really cute. Our waitress was really good and attentive but the bartender messed up on my husbands drink. no big deal, they made a new one which was a margarita and he said it was one of the best he’d ever had! I ordered a drink called the Gaily Whaley and it was sweet but really yummy. So drinks are a thumbs up! Here’s where it goes downhill… We ordered calamari as an appetizer. I found that the rings were very very chewy and the breading kept falling off. It tasted ok but was pretty bland too. I used a lot of sauce. I ordered the shrimp tacos which I will say were very good but I couldn’t get myself to eat the mushy tasteless rice. I decided to try my husbands pan seared grouper which can’t really be messed up too much right? Wrong! It was also tasteless and ABSOLUTELY frozen and not fresh like all the servers will tell you. This is extremely upsetting since there is a fish market ATTACHED to the place and it even has fishing boats parked on the back side! SOOO, my advice… go for drinks and a chill night. There’s a small stage outside so I assume they have entertainment too so get entertained there maybe, and eat before coming!

Had the shrimp tacos with pineapple coconut rice. Thought the shrimp tacos were pretty good the coconut shrimp rice was pretty good. Indiana pork tenderloin sandwich decent a little sweet for my taste but large portion size. We also had the chicken Caesar salad which was excellent large again portion size. The waitress staff was very helpful friendly. I would come back to the restaurant again I thought the portion size wear large very generous. I can’t say this enough the prices were not outrageous.

The scallops dinner is wonderful. The scallops were in an excellent sauce and were delicious. The coconut pineapple rice was amazingly good. My wife had the shrimp and corn chowder and was very happy with it and her crab cakes. Excellent food and a very good value for a quality dining experience. This is now my go to place to take friends and family.

One my favorite places to eat, or just have beer. The staff is great as is the owner who is frequently there in the evenings. Food is always good and have to try there sweet potato frys delicious starter or side. Only drawback is when they have live music the poor guy just doesn’t cut it.

The best mussels I have had in ages– and I am a mussel fanatic!!! Cooked perfectly. Slices of garlic in the white wine sauce. Not too strong. Perfect! Huge order so be careful. Enough for 2 or even 3. Love this place. Will definitely return

We were looking for a good seafood place after our manatee swim. The zig zag scallop appetizer was amazing as were the fresh-cut french fries. It’s a little off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. We would highly recommend stopping by.

They say the food is good. We have gone there 2 times and left due to poor service. Last time one other table and waited over 15 min under a noisy air conditioning unit were they seated us. We were going to ask to move but they just forgot about us. Service is very bad!

Went here for lunch with 6 people, was nice & the food was really good. Sat outside watching all the drunk shrimpers stumble around. Got the big Texas burger, was awesome!

It’s a great little hidden gem. Our server Gail was WONDERFUL! I’ve never been here before and visit the area frequently from NYC so I’m quite critical of new places overall. I’m happy to know I can get great service and fresh and delicious food in a family setting on the water In a quaint atmosphere close to the house! We will be back for sure!!!

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon got a little table out by the canal with a view of a few docked shrimp boats. We ordered crab cakes, peel and eat shrimp and calamari. Food was decent and service was good. Nice enough place but would choose a different location if you’re looking for a nice water view.

Amazing! Finally, a quality restaurant that might stay at this location for more than 2 months! We ordered the Calienta St Calamari($ 8.95) to start, and it had great flavor and we loved the fact that it wasn’t overly breaded/fried. I ordered the Cancun Shrimp Tacos($ 11.95) which were a giant portion(I believe it was 4 tacos) that offered a unique flavor experience that I’ve yet to find elsewhere in Hernando! The coconut pineapple rice is also divine — don’t pass it off as «just another side dish» because it will surprise you! For the amount of food and the flavor combinations, the price was really great(unlike some other restaurants in the area that will charge you $ 18+ for shrimp in any shape or form). My family members tried the Chef’s Special Rib Eye steak, which had a dark-rub with hints of coffee flavor. They loved it! It’s very unique. This restaurant is a breath of fresh air to those of us who have been frequenting Hernando Beach for many years. Can’t wait to go back. Keep up the good work, y’all!

First time here. I really like«water front» and«fresh seafood» places, so I am going to try as many as possible now that I’m down here in Florida. «Zig Zag Scallop’s» is attached to a commercial fishery. So I would expect both really good seafood and lower than average prices. There are even several small commercial fishing boats docked in the channel behind the restaurant that look like they are actually used for commercial fishing. I asked about the Grouper and it was $ 20 which seemed high priced to me especially for a place actually attached to a fishery! I ordered the Key West Chicken instead, I also ordered the Shrimp and Corn Chowder. The chowder came out in due course and it was good(not great), but I ate what seemed to be a large clump of un-mixed flour, probably used to thicken the chowder– kinda nasty! It was also served with the little packet of round soup crackers which is only good IF you like to dump your crackers in the soup. I do not. With normal saltines you have the option of crumbling the crackers in the soup or eating them normally. A little nit-pick, but that’s what food critics do. The Key West Chicken came out and the coconut-pineapple rice was mushy, like oatmeal. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be the normal consistency for coconut-pineapple rice, but I suspect it had been sitting around for too long. The chicken itself was very good, especially the grilled edges soaked in the house made marinade– TASTY! The fancy-ass shredded vegetables were just kinda there. I don’t usually mention something so mundane as the soft drink, but the Coke/Pepsi was watery and flat. Now, Zig Zag sells itself as a «waterside grill», and strictly speaking it is on the water. The water way is the last stagnant channel on the backside of a neighborhood of a series of man-made islands that extend about a half mile from the actual Gulf of Mexico, but it is technically water side. See photos.

Lunch time Friday afternoon with my sweet Jimbo! We shared a delicious bowl of the Shrimp chowder and a Black Angus burger. The bowl of chowder was large enough for two and the burger big enough for three. The food was delicious, service was good, view out back was relaxing and our seats were shaded for a beautiful Friday lunch spot. Staff, and management made us feel very welcome. Definitely will be a weekly lunch spot.

The pics were from my most recent visit with my hubby. I enjoyed the buffalo chicken wrap… it was good but not great. Hubs had the fish Reuben, he said it was ok… the bread was burned and he could taste the char. I ordered an Amberbock beer, it didn’t taste good at all, so the kind waitress replaced it with a bud light tasted fine but was not super cold. The fried pickles were greasy and not that good. They have live entertainment on Thursday’s so may go back for that and give it another try.

An outstanding diamond in the rough. If not for Unilocal,we would never have found this excellent seafood restaurant. The prices are reasonable, the drinks are strong, and the food is utterly delectable. Be sure to try the sweet potato fries with the sugar maple AND garlic aioli dips(not at the same time, but you get 3 choices and those should be 2 of yours). Yes, I know, it sounds weird. Trust me. No, really. Trust me. I LOVED the zigzag scallops! The sauce was positively divine. My favorite dish is shrimp scampi, but I am SO glad I skipped it for the signature dish. The service was great. Our waitress was incredibly accomodating of my friend’s food restrictions and went the extra mile to make sure her meal and drinks wouldn’t set off her allergies. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and really made the effort to make sure all our questions were answered and to make suggestions. Next time I am in the area I am definitely eating here again!

Went to ZigZag Scallop on Friday evening for s new experience and I had the fried grouper sandwich with fries($ 13.95). Unfortunately the food took a while to come out, they were busy. My sandwich was nice and hot when it arrived but the shrimp tacos of a fellow diner at my table were barely warm. The sandwich itself was pretty good. I thought the breading was a little more dense and a little saltier then I like on the whole. I personally prefer Tropical Grilles grouper sandwich. All in all I found it OK without being great. I may give it another go for lunch or dinner. They do have a nice outside seating area to enjoy your food at.

This is a fun spot with a nice casual interior and bar as well as a patio overlooking a waterway with some shrimp boats docked alongside(unless they are out workin it). They have several reasonably. priced and attractive burger offerings as well as mussels, a couple calamari offerings, pasta dishes and grouper sandwich or dinner. The sweet potato fries were very good when I was there. The prices are quite fair. You can get a cone of fries with various dipping sauces. Choose 3 of the 10. They also have a veggie burger offering that sounded good and salads you can add shrimp or scallops too. The market price are posted behind the bar. One of several cool spots along the beautiful Shial Line Road in Hernando Beach(in this case just off it). Enjoy!!!
