Fairfield Inn & Suites Hickory

Clean hotel. Decent rates for the area. The front desk staff is very helpful and goes beyond the normal line of duty. The breakfast spread is comparable if not better to what you would get at the Hampton Inn next door. The lady that runs the breakfast is super friendly. My only complaint is that the cleaning staff opens all doors and turns your TV on and towards the door when they clean. It seems a bit unprofessional.

As a Marriott rewards member, this place was disappointing. We had a wedding rate of $ 94/​night and I don’t think it was even worth that much. It wasn’t the worst hotel I’ve seen but they need to make some improvements.
The lobby was clean and the pool is right off the lobby. The pool water was clean but the sides of the pool were really grimy just above water level. Really gross. The «fitness center» is right off the pool. And by fitness center I mean they have one treadmill and one elliptical. The plus was that it never seemed crowded.
The room itself was clean and the beds were very comfortable. However there was no ventilation fan in the bathroom. Also, there was a cool-​air return vent in the bathroom that was pretty dusty and dirty. Also, the A/​C Unit was very loud and obnoxious because it sounded like something was loose. I told the front desk and he was appreciative that I let him know.
Lastly the continental breakfast was lame. We ended up just eating out. They say they have «Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuits» that are tiny, like the size of a silver dollar. I guess if cereal, plain bagels, and waffles are your thing then you’d be fine but the selection wasn’t what we were hoping for.

Due to a football game, my friend and I had trouble finding a hotel in the Boone area after hiking Grandfather Mountain. We decided to stay in Hickory and found a great deal at this hotel. The location was easy to find, but unfortunately they gave us a room on the first floor right by the side door, which to me is a little unsafe for two females. The staff said there was only one room left though so they were unable to accommodate us elsewhere. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were awful. I need a firmer pillow (non-​down) due to neck issues. It was fairly quite though for the most part so I can’t complain. The free breakfast the next morning was not too impressive as there were not many options for someone like myself who cannot eat dairy.
