I used to love this store, after all I am an Uncle Dan! But now, the store has a «No Defensive Weapons» sign Posted out front and so now I can not enter, neither can my Daughter. It is Bigoted and Prejudicial to Ban, victims of violence, who are licensed by the State of Illinois, to Conceal carry a defensive weapon. I expected better, from a community, that prides itself on being tolerant and inclusive to everyone, without being biased and oppressive. That sign is no less prejudicial, than a sign that says, «No Non Whites Allowed». People need to get a better understanding of Domestic Violence and victims of violence, it is wrong to make victims, an outcast and unwelcome in your business.

I wandered around HP today and stopped into this sporting goods store. It’s like a teeny tiny REI. They have a lot of outerwear from which to choose. But what struck my fancy were sorels. yes, I realize it is only September but you people experience winter in October, at least that is what not boss tells me. I need to keep my feet warm and dry. Sorels are hard to come by during the winter season. The staff was warm and welcoming. They went out of their way to help me and make me feel good about my purchase even though my boots were not my first choice color. Whatever. Black get less dirty than gray anyways. Go here. You will like it.

It’s the only outdoors store in Highland Park, so I can’t really *not* be a fan. They have bandannas in all kinds of colors, and are responsible for my kickass moose hat that I constantly get compliments on. This is where I bought my first archaeological field clothes, so it has a soft spot in my heart. And they have great deals at the sidewalk sales! They don’t always have everything, being a small store, but it’s always a good place to start!

Key Unilocal: Selection, Selection, Selection and very helpful help. Review: Uncle Dan’s moved this summer into a large and spiffy new locale at the corner of First and Central in downtown HP. They are merchandised incredibly well. The people are very very friendly and customer oriented there. They will guide you to what you want Rather than what they want to sell you. For virtually any sports wear need(sans branded athletic gear) this is ‘da place.

This is the same owners and their operation gets really special up here in the North Shore. Selection and service are first class.
