Walgreen’s photo center mainland is terrible. They offer a great price and product but fail on delivering. Its been almost a month and still did not arrive.

Before Walgreens set foot in the building there was Borders. I miss you Borders! Haha, Walgreens is a Mainland-​based drugstore and pharmacy. Located in the same area as Walmart, Officemax and Ross.
Honestly, when they first opened I thought that they wouldn’t last the first 2 years. I was wrong. The store is not crazy busy, for it has it’s waves of customers that flow through the door every now and then. Besides all that, Walgreens ain’t that busy. I would see that as an advantage though when you’re getting your prescription meds. The pharmacy at Longs/​CVS is busy and you will wait forever. Keep in mind to get your meds here at Walgreens, you’ll get it in no time.
They have a nice selection of vitamins and supplements. Look out for their weekly ads every Sunday to catch those deals. For those who like taking «selfies», Walgreens got tons of Selfie Sticks, haha! Hilarious! One thing I do like is that they have an Icee machine and a Coffee machine. You can hook yourself up with cappuccinos, latte, mocha, chai tea latte, hot chocolate and french vanilla espresso! Wow that’s cool!
4 stars for being the largest drugstore chain in the nation! Customer service is good since there’s not more than 5 people in the store at the same time. Keep them deals coming and Hilo people will come!

I picked this pharmacy because of convenience. I like the fact that whenever I get my prescriptions refilled, I receive a text informing me that it’s ready for pickup. I also like the idea that I can look over my account on-​line, to see what medicines I’ve picked up previously, when the prescription expires and how many refills I have remaining. I wished that all pharmacies had this capability. I also downloaded the app for my phone so that whenever I need a refill, I just scan the bottle and the refill process starts immediately, and I’m notified when it’s ready. There are only two things that kind of turned me off…
1. The pharmacy opens later in the morning. It would be great if they were open a little earlier to accommodate the need of picking up medicines before heading into work. But because the pharmacy is located within the store and there’s no drive-​thru service, it can’t be helped, so I either wait til lunch time or after work to pick up my meds.
2. I had surgery done which involved my wearing a large bandage over my head to protect the surgical area. The doctor prescribed a pain medicine for which any pharmacy needs to physically verify the identity of the person picking up the meds. Because of that ruling, despite the fact that I was still a little groggy from the anesthetic and was suffering a little pain, I had to walk into the store so that the pharmacist or counter person could physically check my ID against my physical features. Let me tell you… it was truly uncomfortable walking into a store with that large bandage around my head. I felt like a mummy being a little out of whack and in pain (maybe that’s why mummies «groan» a lot as the walk). It would have been great at that time, if the Pharmacist or counter person could have verified my identity while I was more comfortable in the vehicle, not wanting to show the public the scars of my surgery.
All in all, it’s still a good pharmacy because I can get in and out pretty fast when picking up my meds. And if I need to wait around awhile… might as well browse the store and check out the deals.

Usual run of the mill drugstore. Service was friendly, but relatively slow. I’ve noticed that is the pace at the island. If you have Walgreen’s rewards, it saves you a few dollars on their sale items. Please note that they do not use plastic bags on the island, so bring your own shopping bags.

The Walgreen’s pharmacy offers the best hours on the Big Island. It’s open until 9pm on the weekdays and 7pm on Saturdays and 5pm on Sundays. The staff is also very friendly and efficient!

It’s all about renewing your medicine.

4÷17÷11: Another mainland drugstores arrive in Hilo this past weekend bringing more competition to CVS (aka Long’s). This store fills the recently vacated space left by Borders and is welcomed. The selection of sundry items, beauty products, office supplies, paper/​household goods looks pretty standard. Plenty of parking and located next to Down To Earth.
