I am no friend of white bread, which is all you get here(hence only 3***). But you also get luscious and even super-abundant sandwiches served by very nice people. It’s at the back of Coligny Plaza, as far as you can get from Pope Avenue, alongside the Piggly Wiggly

Went for lunch in early June. Rode bicycles in so parking was not an issue. The interior seating is very limited and a little confusing how one is to place an order. We sat outside since the weather and temps were perfect. The staff was pleasant, courteous and professional. Our order for a family of 4 which included 3 sandwiches was prepared quickly. The bread is homemade and the taste was top notch along with being reasonably priced for«island» food. I will make this a regular stop.

Great choice for lunch, hard to find — on the right side of the piggly wiggly. Food and prices are excellent.

The homemade bread is absolutely delicious. My sandwich had great flavor and the portion sizes are very generous. Highly recommended!

Hilton head staple! Great sandwiches! A little hidden, but well worth the hunt! We eat here every time we visit Hilton Head. One of the rare places that we purchased shirts from. Delicious!

Wouldn’t have found this gem if it weren’t for Unilocal!Couldn’t have been more pleased! The food took a while to come out(nothing unreasonable) but man was it worth it. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious and filling. The bread in particular was tasty! The prices were fair and the service was on point. Will definitely be returning when in Hilton Head.

Coming from a sandwich King — this place is primo. No doubt, best sandwich shop on the island… if not South Carolina. I had the peppered turkey, which was amazing… onion was minimal which played perfect with the lettuce, tomato and mayo. Topped with some mayo that wasn’t too heavy made this sandwich 5 stars. Don’t want to knock this place ATALL, but constructive criticism goes towards my 4 out of 5 stars. Bread. Only criticism. Not that fresh. It’s good — and taste is on point, but sub I had lacked that freshness. If you’re curious on what it’s like — it’s close to Jimmy Johns. But not as good. I may have had bad batch. Did see bartender grab about 10 frozen loaves for cook bc they were slammed and needed more ingredients. So idk. If not baked fresh… knocking off a star. Still amazing and worth the trip! No doubt

Wow! The reviews were right! This is a hidden gem. Set your nav straight and find it! Both the food, service and ambiance are remarkable. I had The Islander, hubby had The Jedi… both delicious! We will be back!

We initially decided to eat here since it was walking distance from Coligny Beach Park and it has pretty good reviews. I’m glad I found Stu’s on Unilocal because I probably wouldn’t have seen it otherwise! We chose a table outside since we had our furkids with us. :) My girlfriend went inside to order and when our food was ready, they brought it out to us. The girl that brought us our food was so friendly! We asked if they had something we could put water in for our dogs, and she was happy to bring us a bowl and cup of water for them. She even brought them bacon, but made sure to ask us if it was okay first. So sweet! I ordered the #20 Sweet Carolina sandwich. It’s a hot sandwich with mesquite grilled chicken breast, melted provolone cheese, roasted peppers, lettuce, tomato, onions, and topped with a basil-garlic mayo. It was yummy! That basil-garlic mayo was so good on it! I also tried a bite of #22 Leddy’s Schweddy Balls(hahaha), which is basically a meatball marinara sandwich. It was good, too! They have a lot of sandwiches to choose from, I’d definitely come back if I’m in the area again!

Restaurants in Hilton Head can be hidden treasures. This is one my husband and son found by accident. It is located at Coligny Square about miles from Sheltor Cove. It locate in the colgony shopping center, located near the Piggy Wiggly Grocery Storel Its a special deli that makes their own bread, also has salads and great potato soup. We have eaten their several times and the owner and waiters are always very friendly. You can eat outside under the umbrella tables. Its fun to watch the beach goers come to the deli, so you can wear as much or as little as you desire(just kidding). The prices are very reasonable and you could probably share a sub. Afterwards there is lots of shops from high fashion to beach wear. You can make it a day trip for shopping women.

Great service and excellent subs. The subs are huge! I ordered a side of chips but never got to them because I couldn’t even finish my sub. The bread was really good and we enjoyed sitting outside. They didn’t have high chairs at the restaurant so the waitress borrowed one from a neighboring restaurant. We walked over from Seaside Villas. Wandered around Coligny Plaza a bit before we found it. For those looking for it, the address says Forest Beach Drive(address for the entire plaza) but it is really on Lagoon Road, north of the Piggly Wiggly.

Great spot for lunch. Friendly with great easy food. Tough to find using the map — it’s opposite the Greek place… worth hunting for!

You can easily miss this place. It’s so small in such a large Coligny shopping plaza. The décor is very low key and such a beachy vibe. The staff member that was helping me was super chill and really prided himself for working there. If employees are so happy about where they are at, usually is a sign of a great spot. Cheap beer and great sub sandwiches. It’s hard to make a sub sandwich stick out but Stu’s did it. I’ll be sure to come by every time I’m in town looking for a quick bite. The worker said that there is absolutely no advertising for this place and I believe him because I’m in HHI a lot and have never heard of the place. It’s so popular because of word of mouth.

I had a lot of great food on this trip to HHI but Stu’s stands out as the one place I absolutely without a doubt would make sure to return to again. The Jedi sub sandwich was so good I’ll never taste a better sub unless I make it back down to Hilton Head. Had a short wait while fresh bread baked but it was beyond worth it and the guy behind the counter kept us entertained with his antics and drawing. Thanks for a great dinner Stu’s!

I got #1, and it was great. This is not your normal Subway. Tastey sandwiches. Nice staff. I waited 30 + min because they ran out of bread, and they made fresh bread. The inside is tiny, but there are tables outside to eat. Firehouse subs has a contender.

A few years ago we were sitting outside of Stu’s Surf Side waiting for our food when this frat guy walked by and yelled, «EATATSTU’S! BESTSUBSONTHEISLAND!!!». Now I don’t think he was getting paid to say this, I just think he really enjoyed the place. After my wife, her family, and I ate our food, we wanted to shout right a long with him. Fast forward to the present and we have eaten here every year since when we come to the island. Stu’s has 22 different types of subs listed on their menu along with salads and soups. On our most recent trip in May I had the meatball sub aptly named Leddy’s Schweddy Balls. AMAZING. Beats subway’s meatball marinara by a long shot. Speaking of Subway, I would choose Stu’s over Subway or Jimmy Johns any day. I only wish this place was where I live. What I believe to be the standout for Stu’s is the homemade bread. It makes every sandwich stand out. The other people in my party ordered the«Local». It has turkey, cheese, honey mustard sauce, and topped with granny smith apples. It is my wife’s favorite and she gets it every year. Stu’s Surf Side has very limited seating inside as it is somewhat small. There are tables and chairs set up outside complete with shade umbrellas in case it is a hot, sunny day. Everyone that we have ever dealt with here has been very nice as you can see from the other reviews on Unilocal.I can’t wait to go back!

Food was really good, but it was the service that set them apart. Wife and I came in for lunch, with two kids in tow(6 and 1−½). Our little one only had a 15 minute nap, so was hungry and tired. We contemplated not eating out, but decided to play with fire. We came is as someone was leaving(interior is small) so we grabbed a table and looked over the menu. Lady came over(assume owner’s wife maybe), to take our order. We asked if they by chance had a highchair for the little one. She said no, but then went to another restaurant nearby to borrow theirs… She went to another restaurant to get a high chair people. Who does that!!! As the sandwiches were being made the little one started getting vocal about the lack of nap. Within less than a minute, the owner came over and asked if some goldfish would help tide her over. Seriously!!! These people went WAY above and beyond good service. There were extraordinary, and I cannot say enough good things about them. You can see by all the other reviews that the food is good. Really good. It is the level of caring and service of those there, that truly make the difference.

BESTSUBSONHILTONHEADISLAND! We walked by Stu’s last night on our way to the booze station and almost stopped in our tracks and had a post dinner snack. My beer gut got the better of me and mandated we continue on to the liquor store but my other gut made a mental note of Stu’s. Two disappointing meals later my belly biked over and ordered the #12 Beach Club and the #20 Sweet Mesquite. 5 minutes later I subgasmed all over the table and 10 minutes after that I was passed out on the beach. Do you and your fat self a favor and eat at Stu’s! PS: Owners were really nice! Always a plus.

We’re greeted promptly when we arrived. The gentleman working even asked if he could get us cold beverages while we decided which subs to order. The service was well beyond what you would expect from a sub shop. My sandwich had a lot of meat and the bread was fresh. My husband got the chili with his sub. I was surprised this was great as well. The only reason I gave this place four stars was because while it was fabulous it was just a smidge below a NY deli. I’ve been going to this place over the years. I always look forward to coming back!
