Philly’s Cafe & Deli

After a nine mile bike ride, our group was starving so we decided to stop here for lunch on the ride back. (Bonus points for the bike racks out front).
Now, I’ve had more than my fair share of cheesesteaks all throughout Philadelphia, from the high volume, tourist spots to the lesser-​known, but typically better sandwich shops (none of which I’ve ever reviewed out of fear of local feedback. Yeah, it’s a hot and highly debated topic throughout the city). Anyway, even though they had a number of other menu options, I was afraid I might be making a mistake ordering one here in Hilton Head, but it was anything but.
First of all, it was huge with plenty of steak and cheese. Throw in some grilled onions, mushrooms and bacon (yes, you read that correctly) and I was beyond satisfied with how I chose to replace all of those burned morning calories. There isn’t a ton of seating room, but this is a great little sandwich shop and somewhere I’d definitely keep bookmarked for a future lunchtime visit, especially since everyone seemed to enjoy whatever they ordered.

So many choices, so little time. Went with one of the street cheesesteaks and it was amazing. The server was very kind and the chefs were accommodating for my large order and special requests. Will definitely come back next time I am in Hilton Head.

Had the bacon blue cheesesteak yesterday. It was amazing. Highly recommend. A little expensive for a sub.

I’m pretty hard on the cheesesteak places. This one has great bread. Great meat not enough cheese but overall really good. My wife got the Reuben. She liked it. Saturday’s kids eat free. That’s a plus.

Very good — I enjoyed this place — be prepared to eat a lot of food but you can order half a hoagie. I had we meet again which just perfect for me — hubby had the BLT which he enjoyed. A must try & priced well.

Boom! What a good hoagie place! I went in after bringing the dog to Folly Field and grabbed a Woodstock and a South Street. Took them back to the hotel since it was rainy and the dog wanted to sleep, and ate them in bed with a book. I could not have asked for a better gorging and relaxing night! These were so delicious that I had said I was only going to eat half of each and save the rest as «roadies» for the drive back to Florida. Didn’t happen. They were so good that late night I went in the fridge and finished them off.

I went here last week with my family for cheese steaks, I ordered a cheese steak with wiz and fried onions. Absolutely disgusting. I expected actual cheese wiz (you know the yellow kind), but no you get a kind if white roux sauce that tastes powdery and nothing like cheese. The meat was all wrong and not even greasy (if you’ve ever had a real philly cheese steak you know what i’m talking about). The onions were also sliced red onions– all wrong. The only plus was the roll. It was really good. Its a shame that all I could eat were pieces of my roll that was not touched by that nasty sauce. My sister had an italian hoagie that she said tasted really good and looked good as well. I will never return here not worth my money.

Very good sandwiches, I would definitely stop in here again when on Hilton Head Island.

While I’ve eaten here a couple times and don’t have a complaint about food or service this establishment has roaches. There were at least two crawling the walls of the dining room while I looked at my lunch (i.e. didn’t eat it). They need exterminators.

Great steak and cheese subs on fresh sub rolls. Onion rings were fantastic. Kids meals were great as well. Highly recommend this place.

Great sandwich spot. The Bompa is a favorite of ours. We go back several times each week when we are in Hilton Head.

I go to Philly’s more times a week than I’d like to admit. The sandwiches are awesome, fresh bread is key. Been going here for years and never had a sandwich I didn’t like. Great people too. Get a Bompa!
