Always friendly people, clean facility and great programs for adults and kids alike! The pool is indoors and fun.

So I met this guy in a hot tub last night… that is how all good stories should start. I go here because a friend of ours is learning how to swim and this is where she has chosen to do it. The pool is massive and really kid friendly, but it also has a lap pool for adults as well. The hot tub isn’t so much a hot tub as much as it is a stew pot for cannibals. I’m not kidding, I was sitting in and there was a guy cutting up carrots and potatoes over in the corner looking at me like I was a giant hot dog. If you forget your lock for a locker they will let you borrow one in exchange for your cell phone or car keys. They just drained and gave the pool a massive cleaning so it was a bit chilly and by chilly I mean 2 polar bears were chasing penguins around the deep end. It will be warmer this week though.

The Holladay Lion’s Rec Center is a great community fitness center. For families looking for a group membership, it offers a little bit of everything: basketball courts, amazing swimming pool, fitness center, track, and childcare. For individuals looking to get started on the path to better fitness, various classes are included in the price of membership(or available on a pay-as-you-go basis, if you aren’t a member or if you are but don’t want to pay the extra 5 – 10 dollars per month). Maybe a little more spendy than the chain gyms, but definitely more family friendly.

We recently moved into the area and were looking for a place to take the kids swimming, and also to utilise the other facilities on hand for workouts and other«exercise-y-type» things. Having previously been members of the Kearns Recreation Center, we went in to take a look around and were pleasantly surprised at all of the amenities. Inside there is a cardio workout area that is easily twice the size of the facility at Kearns with ample cross trainers, treadmills, step machines, stationary bikes, plenty of weight and resistance machines, and enough room to not feel like you’re sweating on top of the people around you. If you head to the other side there are basketball courts available for free use when scheduled games are not going on, and separate classrooms for their fitness classes available daily. If you head up the stairs there is a three lane running track(15 laps equals 1 mile) which is absolutely perfect in the cold months and rainy days to get that run in that will make all the difference to you. This is where I like to hang out, and every other day you get to run in the opposite direction, while being able to look down on the basketball courts or stare out the northern window. Next to the track are a couple of other machines(1 treadmill, two cross trainers, stretching mats, and 2 other stationary bikes around the track) where you can warm up/down, or just escape the cardio room. Last but not least, there’s the pool. Sectioned off into five areas, there’s room for everyone. There are 4 lap lanes, a deep open swimming area, a shallower open swim area, a kids open swim area(complete with slides and other water toy fun), the rip lane that will pull you around, and the spa area. Oh, and then the HUGE slide! We’ve had hours of fun in there, and at a price of under $ 40 a month for a family of 6 the value is definitely second to none. So if you live in the area, go check it out, I promise you won’t be dissapointed.

This is a great rec center. Very clean and well kept with lots of activities constantly going on and youth sports programs. Nice indoor track for walking/running, basketball courts and indoor pool. Also a childcare center.
