This is just another breakfast-centric national chain. I am rating/reviewing The Egg & I as just that. It’s not fancy or exciting. It’s a place to grab some eggs, waffles and breakfast meats. And it’s pretty damn good. I had the Cambridge skillet and Lisa had a breakfast sandwich. We each had a waffle as well. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Our server was beyond nice and attentive. She was awesome! This place has the vibe of an old-timey-mom-and-pop diner, even though it clearly isn’t. The employees all seemed content and actually happy to be there. The private label hot sauce on the tables is slightly better than Tabasco and a million times better than Cholula. Groupon sent us here, but the yummy comfort food and excellent service are the reasons we’ll come again. Pro Tip: If you wear your Utes’ gear on game day, you get a free waffle!

I don’t like this place, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone for breakfast. The service was terrible and the food was, mediocre. I was expecting much better food. We were very disappointed in the portions and the service.

I am completely underwhelmed. I had hopes that it would become a good breakfast spot but, honestly, I would pick Denny’s or IHOP for a chain breakfast. The eggs were coated in oil, the chili verde was orange and tasteless, and the scramble was the scrambled eggs with a smattering of green peppers, onions, and ham sprinkled on top, covered with cheese.

If you are looking for straightforward, hearty breakfast and good service, this will be the place. We found it when getting some things at Macy’s across the street; some of the other reviews had me a little worried but it was too convenient not to try. Our server Jessie was very friendly, quick and attentive without being fussy. All of our food was fine. My husband likes plain hash browns and they serve cubed«ranch potatoes», but they were tasty and crispy, so he was happy. Another table was not happy with how their eggs were prepared, and server did all the right things to remedy the problem. We would return if we were in the area.

In the couple of times I’ve visited the Egg and I, the service I had was wonderful except for the times I had Tanya as my waitress. She made me feel rushed, and unwelcome. I felt like I had no option on how my visit would go, I was hovered over and then forgotten. My drinks took almost as long as my food, my coffee was cold when I got it. I felt as if the service that was already poor would’ve gotten worse if I were to say anything. Food was great, but won’t be spending my money here again due to the unprofessionalism of this waitress.

Stopped in with my daughter. Food was very good albeit not really what I ordered. Was thinking of 3 stars but rather than bring me a new omelette made correctly they brought me a side of sausage cubes. Really not an ideal fix and thus was thinking 2.5 stars. So what changed and counted for an additional 1.5 stars? The manager stopped by the table and comped my meal and(this is the important part) apologized and gave me a certificate to make sure I came back. It is what I call getting back to even. Service failures need to be corrected as a matter of policy. A straight correction or meal replacement that comes when there is a problem still doesn’t do anything to make the customer happy. It merely placates said customer and the customer still has a negative feeling due to lost time and inconvenience. Getting back to «even» in the customer’s mind takes extra. The manager handled it perfectly and I will be going back. So yeah 4 stars overall.

Horrible service!!! We have been here 3 times now and will never be back. The first time, we were promptly seated then promptly forgotten about. We waited 20 minutes and no one even asked if we wanted water. When we got up to leave, the manager was at the cash register and she just watched us leave. The second time, we at least got some of our food. The food we did get was pretty good. But we had to keep asking for the missing food(English muffin and bowl of fruit) which we never received. The third time, we again only receive part of our meal. We continuously asked for syrup and the missing food. We eventually asked the manager to help us, she disappeared into the kitchen and never returned. Our last resort… stealing syrup from a table that just left. We understand that places have bad days, and the food here is good. But after giving this place 3 tries, the horrible service ruined the entire experience. We will be going down the street to iHop.

Writing an update to my previous review. This place has been open for almost two years now, and I hadn’t been for a while so I thought I’d stop in again about a month ago… I gotta say this place has definitely declined. Service was lacking. The waitress made it seem like she really didn’t want to wait on us, and watching the rest of the waitstaff(except for one server) was almost physically painful as they kind of just milled about. One of the things I liked when they first opened was that the manager would talk with the tables and it was really friendly feeling, but on this visit the manager(not the same one from when they opened) was simply standing up at the front chatting with the hostess and not seeming to care about the experience of the guests. The food is still pretty good(I’d go again for the coffee and eggs benedict), but the service aspect has definitely gone down hill. It’s a shame because I really liked this place when they first opened.

Had the Parisian breakfast with poached eggs, with a side of pancakes… Was excellent. Reasonably priced, and my server Becky was on point. Definitely coming back

If you find yourself in need of breakfast some day, this is your place! My hubby had just had some tests done at the doctor near by and he needed to fast the day before. He was super hungry! He got pancakes, eggs, hash browns, eggs, and OJ. I got the Mexican skillet thingy. It was all great!

Possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We waited over an hour for our food. The entire staff simply ignored us the entire time. After getting up and chasing down one of the staff to find out about our food I was told 10 minutes. Over 25 min later still no food. We will never go back.

It’s always a sure bet. Every single time I’ve been there for breakfast it’s been great. It does get pretty busy on sundays.

Ordered a garden frittata to-go. I was helped instantly as I walked through the door. My order was completely in an impressive amount of time. Every bite was delicious, especially the potatoes. Will be coming back often.

My husband and I have eaten here a few times and we have never been impressed with the service or the food. The only reason we went a second time was because it was just down the street from our home in Holladay. The most recent time was very unfortunate as it was one of the only truly cold days of the winter and we had the misfortune to be seated by the back entrance. This meant that every time some asshole was to lazy to enter through the front we got blasted with freezing cold air. On top of it our sever did not try to reseat us even though we had my fiends baby with us, and it took about an hour to get food. Which was fine. Food was fine. Very over priced for pancakes but whatever that’s not the point. We emailed the owner to let him know that they should lock those doors so that people have no choice but to enter through the entrance, or put a sign asking people to take 8 extra steps to the front so that they are not disturbing other diners. The owner was apologetic and owner to send us coupons and invited us back. Sounds great right? Never got them. And he never responded to us again. Why even bother to offer something like that if you aren’t going to follow through? A simple«thank you for your feedback and we’ll take it into consideration» would have sufficed. To bad for them because I eat breakfast more then any other restaurant food.

Quality Ingredients. Eggcellent food! I recommend the coconut hot chocolate and Peaches and Cream French Toast. Great service too. A little pricey for breakfast, but you get your money’s worth. Friendly tip: Get there before the 9am rush on Saturday.

I have been here three times and waited probably a cumulative three hours for my food – that’s after being seated. Unfortunately, the disappointment continues after the food actually makes it to the table. The oatmeal is not good(goopy and cold) and the omelettes are nothing special. I will say that my kids like the chocolate chip pancake, but they would probably be happier with a just a bowl of chocolate chips, so they’re not the most reliable. There are a lot of other breakfast options within a one block radius and I would recommend going to any of them instead – Sharon’s, Normandie, Einstein’s, or even McDonald’s.

Really, really good. Highly recommend. We ate there this morning and I have already told three people about it. I has the Hiker Eggs Benedict and my boyfriend had the Cajun Omelet with the side pancake. We didn’t have to eat for the rest of the day. The ranch potatoes are great, everything is super fresh and delicious. And even better, the food came out hot in a matter of minutes.

The Egg and I is a typical breakfast restaurant a little hidden from the main path on Highland Drive. Off of Murray Holiday Road, it is what you would come to expect from a diner that serves traditional breakfast item. Although it feels like a national chain restaurant, there are only three located in Utah and is locally owned. The menu is very diverse and offers many options. I opted for a traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast which was very good. Next time I think I will get the french toast, skillets, or huevos rancheros. They also have a large selection of omelets. The service was good and the environment was welcoming. While it doesn’t have the flair of other local breakfast joints, the Egg and I could be considered a solid choice for traditional breakfast items. There is plenty of parking, the restrooms are clean, and the manager and staff was very friendly. I look forward to going to the Eggs and I again sometime in the future, but there are much more interesting places in SLC for breakfast.

Nice little breakfast diner on the east side. The inside has the feel of a chain restaurant similar to a Mimi’s or nicer ihop, but it was bright and cheery. The staff was very friendly and informative. It’s hard for me to say no to french toast so I skipped the fancy egg options and went with the Raisin French Toast. For a pretty standard price I got a large portion of well prepared french toast, two eggs and two very large sausage patties. Everything was good, not exceptional but yummy. JeremyF got an omelet that was served with your choice of toast and ranch potatoes. The potatoes were pretty taste. I think he enjoyed it but again it wasn’t anything mind blowing. The place was clean, the bathrooms were nice, and the service was good. Our waters were kept full and the waitress was nice when Jeremy wanted to change his toast selection. I would have said no toast for you. The manager was also very friendly and told us that they are a local chain with 2 soon to be 3 locations(although looking at the website there seems to be out of state locations too). He also gave us a sealed envelope that can be used for when we come back that could contain a voucher for free coffee or food. Fun. Overall I enjoyed the experience. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there but if I needed a decent breakfast place for a family gathering I’d definitely give them place another go.

1÷1÷2014 Immediate Reaction — I LOVE breakfast, but normally, I don’t «Go Out» for it, but I had heard good thing about this place, and with it being so close, I had to give it a try. This place has only been open for a little while now, and as we walked in, we were greeted and welcomed by the owner who asked if we had questions and made himself available if we did.(1 star) Service — The server who attended our table was very attentive and was able to answer any questions we had about the menu, and offered up some of her favorites(not the usual monotone«the special today is blah blah blah».) She was very friendly to our group and especially my kids who she took time to greet each of them and make each of them smile. When we ordered the pancakes for our 2.5 yr old, they came out as Mickey Mouse’s Face(Grapes for eyes, Butter for nose and Bacon for the mouth.) Our kids thought it was the coolest thing.(1 star) The Restaurant — Roomy, clean, well lit and very welcoming. You can tell one of the things this restaurant prides itself is cleanliness, and for an establishment that caters to the family with little kids, this is awesome.(1 Star) The Food — Wonderful! You can tell that effort is put behind everything that they make. I went with the make your own omelet, and it was one of the better omelets that I’ve had. Looking around at what other people in my family ate, you can tell that the ingredients are fresh. There were eight people in our party, and we all ordered different things and we all had positive thins to say about the food. I walked away feeling satisfied, not stuffed with greasy bacon, hashbrowns and butter like I do at other breakfast spots(I love those too, don’t get me wrong.)(2 Stars) I loved this place and overheard that they are expanding with several more locations opening soon. Even if you aren’t feeling«breakfasty» they have items on the menu that would suit you well. I’m excited to go back and try some other things… I have my eyes on the Huevos Rancheros. Give The Egg & I a try… you won’t be disappointed. If you know me, you will be able to finish this sentence…“There is only one person who didn’t like The Egg & I…“ 1÷1÷2015 Came back for our New Years tradition… same as before, fantastic!
