The food was decent. Service was absolutely horrible. I arrived with a party of 8, the way the staff acted you would’ve thought they were getting ready to close. We were barely greeted at the door. We literally waited 45 minutes for our food in an empty restaurant. Not to mention our silverware and napkins were dropped in the middle of the table for us to sort out.

I enjoy the seafood Market side of this place, whenever I’m feeling a fresh shrimp cocktail or make my own lobster I hope over and pick it out. Good selection of beer and wine as well as other goodies to go with your meal. During the summer I’ll walk up, get some soft serve ice cream.

The wait staff was actually pretty good once i buttered them up… no pun intended. The lazy lobster was kind of good, enjoyed it, would have it again, not quite what I was expecting though, little more chewy than i had hoped. They are def rough around the edges and they dont give a funk if you dont like their service! they get enough business evidently that they dont care. If you are looking for waitresses that give a sh** and will coddle you go somewhere else. Its almost like ed Dibevicks in how they treat you. The lobster was pretty good and the clam chowder was a little bit underwhelming but it was the end of the day so ill give them some slack. called the place and said«hey what are the odds youll be open when i get there, better than 50%?» and she said«what??? you are trying to get an item for 50% off???» I said«Noooooooo, im asking if i leave now are you going to be open? can you at least give me 50%???» she said«ooooooh, ok yeah, swing by…» and we laughed and it was fine… interesting spot to say the least.

Terrible… just awful. Sadly you are expected to tip before the food arrives since there are no waitresses. you order at a counter. This should have been a red flag. lobster was over cooked and the tail meat fell apart into pieces. Steamers were extremely sandy as if they were not rinsed at all… the BUTTER was watered down!!! I would never eat here again even if it was free!!! Trash… the fries are the only decent item we ate.

I used to order from here regularly when I lived in Holyoke almost 10 years ago. Enjoyed their wings, subs, and pizza. So, when I was unexpectedly in the area today, it was the first place I thought of. I’m saddened that my experiences have changed since my last visit. I ordered a turkey sub that took 18 minutes to make and tasted of lower quality deli meat – salty. It was 130 in the afternoon and not a single person was in the store and the restaurant was catering to two patrons. They seemed staffed to handle that volume, given there were three people standing, talking in the kitchen, with a nice attendant in the store and 3 others in the restaurant side. What was really disturbing was the ball-headed employee sitting on – yes, ON – the food prep area… butt parked like it was his chair. When I pointed this out to the nice store-side attendant, she looked at him and proceeded to go around the corner and avoid the unsanitary situation. I was in the store for another 10 minutes before leaving and no one had addressed the issue with him, and he was still sitting on the food prep area. If that is acceptable practice, then it makes me concerned about the safety of my food and health. I wish I could say that I noticed this behavior before I had consumed my food, but unfortunately, I cannot.

I only gave two stars because of the friendly service. Food was terrible, had fish and shrimp deep fried. Very greasy and tasteless

Good, not great, but when you don’t live in New England, are just passing through and need a lobster fix, this is as good as it gets. Found them through Unilocal and my GPS got me there just fine. Went on a Sunday night and got their twin lobster special for $ 20, probably in hindsight would have been better with their triple lobster special for $ 26, but so be it. Ordered some clam chowder and a fountain drink. Like the other reviews have said, you order your food, get a number and they bring it out to you. Its not a fancy place, more of a divey restaurant, but again, it was good enough for me. The clam chowder was good and creamy, and didn’t need any seasoning. Lobsters with melted butter came out shortly after. They were good, but just a lot smaller than I thought and very watery. Again, I’m not being too picky as they were a lot less than in the south where I live, but if I lived in New England, I would probably go elsewhere and find them where they are bigger and just as inexpensive. I enjoyed my lobsters and my relatively quick meal. In hindsight, I would have been better ordering a larger lobster at the per pound price.

Lobster was good and the waitresses were great. However, the clams were extremely sandy(even the second batch we sent the first back) and all the other food was mediocre.

My family hasn’t been here in about a year so I was timid going back after reading the so so Unilocal reviews. We went on a Thursday night where they do a lobster bake special for $ 20 — a lobster, steamers, corn on the Cobb, clam chowder, cole slaw or another veggie, and choice of potato. All for only $ 20! There was a line out the door when we got there but it went quickly and the staff was wonderful. The chowder arrived promptly and was delicious! No salt or pepper needed. When the meals came omg. There was so much food! A great serving size of steamers and the lobster was super fresh. No complaints at all and the service was quick and friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

Awesome, FRESH food, in a laid back atmosphere. Prices not bad, serving size a lil small for my large appetite.

We visited this restaurant recently for lunch and walked away underwhelmed but vowing to try again. When you walk into the restaurant you order, and pay, at the front counter, and they give you a number to place on your table. You choose your own table and when the food is ready they bring it out to you. Drinks are serve yourself. The overall process was smooth and everyone working were friendly and accommodating. The food itself was just ok. My husband and I ordered the fish and chips and found the batter to be overwhelming. The fish got lost in the mass amount of greasy, fried batter. The French fries were also extremely greasy and we kinda felt like a shower after eating. My son’s chicken tenders appeared to be the same type of batter and he wasn’t a big fan. We did sample the clam chowder as well and that was very good. Everything was reasonably priced and, while we won’t be getting the fish and chips again, or probably anything fried, we would return to try some other options on the menu.

I hate to do this to Schermerhorn’s, but my last few experiences haven’t been the best. The place is hit-and-miss and the misses have been piling up. I get the lazy lobster when I go, and that’s about a $ 29 dish… so when I take a friend from out of town and talk up the place, I feel kinda embarrassed when they don’t deliver what I promised. They changed the lazy lobster. It now comes in smaller scallop-shaped dishes and the serving size definitely seems smaller(though we were assured it was the same size). The broth wasn’t as flavorful and neither of our dishes had any claws. Once I counted about 9 claws in my dish. So… Schermerhorn’s is beginning to hit a success rate of 50% for me, which isn’t great odds to risk thirty bucks on.

Food and service are excellent. But I was the only customer and it took 40 minutes to make fried fish and French fries? Don’t get it

So, my husband and I have been driving by this place(on I-91) for decades now and finally decided to try it. It’s been there forever, so we were pretty sure it had to be one of the good seafood places around. We went in around noon on a frigidly cold Saturday and entered through the«dining room» entrance. Turns out it is one of those places where you order at a counter directly inside the door, take a number, go sit down, and they bring the food to your table. Charming or not, it didn’t really matter to us. We’re not fancy folks. I ordered a cup of Lobster bisque and the fish and chips — how could I go wrong at a famous seafood joint, right? My husband ordered a cup of shrimp and corn chowder and sirloin tips. My bisque came, I wrapped my freezing cold hands around the cup to warm them up, but was sadly disappointed. The bisque was lukewarm at best, and the flavor was just«okay.» My husband’s chowder was a little warmer, but it had a strange sour taste, so after a few spoons he set it aside. My fish and chips were even more disappointing. The fish had a very thick, heavy, oily batter, and the«fish» inside was nothing but mush. I couldn’t find an indentifiable piece of fish no matter how hard I tried. Frozen maybe??? The french fries were obviously pre-fab and disappointing too. The sirloin tips were cooked properly(medium), but had very little seasoning. The onions and peppers topping them were dripping with oil and disgusting. The mashed potatoes were the highlight, although bland, and just came as a «hump» on the plate. Cole slaw was so-so. The selzer tasted like city water. I really hate to write this bad of a review, and I realize I used the word«disappointing» way too many times, but it’s the word that fits best. Oh yeah, to top it off, the place smelled like a nursing home.

Restaurants such as this do not exist in Virginia. For that reason, Schermerhorn’s was a real treat for us. The lobster and fried cod fillets were phenomenal and we will definitely return next time we are in town.

I ordered the two lobster special – I guess I must have looked like a schmuck because I was served two soft shell lobsters with lots of water and not so much meat inside. The Maine steamers were off the chain. I will come back, and next time I will be sure to get some REAL lobsters, not some two-bit skinny ass molters! Service was warm and friendly.

I go here every once and a while. The GPS always takes me to the wrong place but it’s always worth it. Look it will be greasy, a little dirty, and the cashier /food deliverer(that’s all they do) will probably not smile at you. It’s divey and not somewhere I would take anyone who is a food snob, or on a date. It’s delicious and cheap, you can get lobsters smothered in butter. I go on wednesdays and sundays for the 3 lobsters for $ 20. It’s great. A californian like myself is used to seeing lobsters going at $ 15-$ 20 a pound on a good day. Here you can get them at something close to $ 7.99 which is just plain CRAZY. I’m not so sure about the fried foods, I havent personally ever ordered them. My friends have and they werent always so thrilled. But hey the lobster is what matters right? I wish they have you more room to dunk your lobster in the butter. The little plastic cups are a bit small but eh I’ll live.

We went on a Wednesday night, which happened to be 3 lobsters for $ 20. There was a line but we still got a seat. We really enjoyed it. The sides were only so-so, but that’s nitpicking. People come for the lobster.

There is a line out front and it’s worth the wait. Once inside you give your order at the counter and go find a table. The clam chowder was very good, and the three lobsters for $ 20 on Wednesday is almost too much to eat. Other coworkers I dined with were very happy with their portion sizes and food, and our non-fish eaters(two) said the pizza was tasty.

Decided to stop in for lunch around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Place was not busy with the hostess, cashier, and waitress being one in the same. We had about a 15 – 20 wait for our food. The booths are very tight and uncomfortable. The clam chowder was pretty good, but not the best. I had the stuffed flounder and my wife the lobster roll. She liked hers, but noted the fries had a fishy taste like they used the same oil for fries and fish. The coleslaw was decent, but needed salt and pepper. My stuffed flounder was mediocre and had kind of a weird lobster sauce on it, and the steak fries were undercooked. Overall, it was average at best. I think a better seafood meal can be obtained at the Maine seafood restaurant in Windsor, Ct.
