This bakery was a nice find for the area. I have to try cupcakes and macarons in every town I visit so I researched and found this spot. The fact that they even offer macarons was surprising and they were really good. We also tried a couple of cupcakes and found those to be delicious as well. I liked the variety of cupcakes and macarons they offered. Great spot for the area.

I know everyone is all into cupcakes, but I’m not a fan. HOWEVER, the macarons will change your life. I’m not kidding. We had the lemon, pistachio, raspberry, chocolate, and lavender. There are no words. I could happily die in a kiddie pool of their lemon macarons.

I ordered two specialty cakes for a retirement event at the Barber Motorsports Museum. Both were incredible works of art! Not only were the decorations detailed and beautiful, but the cakes themselves tasted so good everyone asked about them. It was such a lovely way to top off a special day! I wish I lived in the area so I could have more Dreamcakes!

I ordered a 6″ cake for my son’s 21st birthday… the cake was very good. However, when I went to pick it up and pay for it, I was told I could leave a tip for the baker. I had an option to leave 15%, 20% or 25% since I paid with my debit card… I reluctantly tipped 15% making my grand total a little over $ 37.00 for a very tiny, basic cake. I have never had a bakery suggest I tip the baker and this would give me pause from ever ordering a cake from them again.

I tried two new cupcakes today; Pina Colada and Strawberry with Chocolate Icing and a Strawberry on top. If I was not eating the Pina Colada cupcake, I would thought I was having the real thing. I wish I had another one. Decadent is how I would describe the Strawberry Cupcake with Chocolate Icing. I savored every morsel.

I have not updated this review enough. So I splurge with dreamcakes around once a month. My favorite flavor is still the duchess, but I’ve upgraded my repertoire to include a few more flavors, AKA I’ve probably tried every flavor in the case because I can’t just choose one. I still prefer the fruity flavors to the chocolate ones. The newest summer flavors are to die for. Raspberry lemonade, key lime, hazelnut banana, s’mores, I could continue. More favorites include chocolate strawberry, raspberry jelly, red velvet, strawberry all around, there’s a reason these cupcakes were ranked some of the best in America. Get in here and get a cupcake, and if you can’t make it to the shop in Edgewood find out where the food truck is located! It’s always in a convenient location!

Small, quaint bakery in Homewood that makes the best cupcakes! I love the wedding cake cupcakes and cakes! I also love the strawberry cheesecake pound cake.

Taste like a box mix cupcake. And at 4 bucks for one. That’s a little to rich for my blood for Duncan Hines. The icing is too sweet. But the cake part was very soft. But so is Duncan, or Betty or Pillsbury. Lol. I had the over the moon cupcake and it looked as if mine had been dropped over the moon. So all in all don’t believe the hype. They’re decent tasting but I would not go out of my way. It does not leave you feeling like OMG I’m craving a cupcake for me. I was not impressed. I can pay way less by buying a box of cake mix. I promise that’s exactly what you’re getting.

Awesome cakes! I live out of state and ordered a Gender Reveal Cake over the phone to pick up when I arrived in Birmingham. I wasn’t sure what we would end up with, but we were very happy with what we got! I would go back again and again! Highly recommend!

One of my favorite places to pickup a delicioso cupcake. I’ve tried three of the numerous cupcakes they’ve offered and I can’t seem to get pass the over the moon cupcake. That blue iced cupcake is so delicioso and it’s always sold out. They also have a food truck that parks at events and along HWY280 in front of the Target. I’ve yet to have a bad experience with this business and they offer a discount to military and first responders. A must stop when in the Birmingham area!

If I were into the whole designer cupcake movement, this would be the place I would look for. I had the pleasure of trying Dreamcakes when the bakery came recommended for a party I was hosting. The process of my special order went very smoothly and the 4 varieties of mini cupcakes were outstanding. Every single one had perfectly moist, not gross oily, cake and the right amount of icing. Both boasted the ordered flavor. I mean, if I’m going to order a flavor, I want to taste it. But it wasn’t overwhelming either. I also tried 2 minis from the store upon pick up. C’mon, who can walk in a deliciously sweet smelling shop and not want one(or two)? Equally as good so I can only speak highly of them. As other reviewers have noted, the customer service left much to be desired, but I got what I needed so whatever.

Though is seems like the«cupcake trend» has died down, Birmingham’s ownn Dreamcakes has kept their quality high. Dreamcakes sell giant, moist cupcakes that come in a variety of amazing flavors, including Caramel Sea Salt Mocha. Maple Bacon, Chocolate High, and Curious George(for all you banana lovers). Some flavors are perennial favorites while others come and go with the seasons(e.g. pumpkin with brown butter glaze). Dreamcakes is located Homewood next to New York Pizza and Saw’s BBQ — so it’s a perfect for desert after a hearty meal. They also have a truck that sets up in different spots around town throughout the week, so be sure to look ‘em up on Twitter(@dreamcakesbham). These treats may seem a little on the pricey side but, really, but the quality is pretty divine — miles above Gigi’s an Edgar’s. Show up someplace with a dozen and you will be a hero for a lifetime.

The birthday cake my boyfriend got for me was delicious! Rich and moist chocolate cake with a peanut butter frosting. Kept refrigerated for about 5 days and enjoyed the sweet leftovers!

Very cute little shop, filled with all sorts of character and goodies behind the counter. Mostly cupcakes and a few selections of cookies and macaroons. I got an oatmeal cream pie, it had good flavor but it was a little dry. It wasn’t something to were home about. A friend got the wedding cupcake and she said that was good. Adorable décor. Quite frankly I’m a little over the cupcake craze myself.

I have always loved dreamcakes and their cupcakes so I decided to go to them for my wedding cake. I was VERYDISAPPOINTED. The customer service was TERRIBLE. They delivered the WRONG cake to my wedding and the designer(Katie) did not even decorate it with the fresh slowers we had agreed on. We had agreed on a cake at our meeting and she had even e-mailed me a picture of the one we had picked out. We also had agreed on the florist leaving her flowers to put on the cake(which she did not do). Imagine what it would feel like to walk into your reception to a completely different cake that was NOT the one you ordered AND there were no fresh flowers on it like planned. Since we had paid so much for the cake I decided to go in to the store to talk to them about it. Katie told me she could not find the flowers(which were in the refrigerator next to cake) so she just didnt do it and left the cake undone at my wedding! Also, when we talked to the store owner(her mother) she told us it was not her fault even though we had proof in the email that it was the wrong cake. They only gave us $ 75 out of $ 400 back for the set-up fee. Since she just didnt decorate our cake and left an unfinished cake at my reception. Since you pay so much money for a wedding cake I would expect 1) the correct cake and 2) a cake that was fully decorated.

DreamCakes did a custom Elmo cake(and smash cake) for my son’s first birthday party, and we were unanimously pleased with the results. I placed my order over the phone with Ben and sent him a picture of what I wanted. When I picked up the cakes, the staff asked me to make sure that they were exactly what I was expecting and let me know that they could fix them on the spot if there was anything that I wasn’t happy with. Everything was perfect, though. DreamCakes made an almost exact reproduction of the main cake and an adorable smash cake to complement it! And the cake, which was white-on-white with buttercream icing, was to die for! I thought the pricing(less than $ 60 total) for both cakes was extremely reasonable, particularly for all the customization and extra effort DreamCakes put in. We’ll definitely be using DreamCakes again!

You know something is special when you can’t get it out of your mind four days later, and you’ve been raving about said item to many a friend and coworker. Now I sorta wish I’d never tried Dreamcakes only because then I wouldn’t be fixated on those cups o’ heaven. My pal LB has always been raving about DC’s treats, but I’d never been by the store when it was open. This past Saturday, I actually passed by when the shop wasn’t closed, so I decided to pop in for some hostess gifts. One minor quibble is that there are too many flavors to pick from. When there are billions of options, I get overwhelmed and spend too much time weighing my options. The Dreamcakes website lists around 100 cupcake flavors which they do not carry all of at one time, but whoa. Some interesting choices, like Grapico. The nice woman who assisted me answered my questions and didn’t get all huffy when I took my sweet time selecting my treats. I eventually ended up with Simply Strawberry and Cinnamon Roll. Yum and then some. The cake portion was soft and moist, and the frosting was just right: smooth, buttery, and not airy and sickeningly sweet. Thankfully I do not live superclose to Dreamcakes or I would be in serious trouble. Lightyears better than the infamous Magnolia!

I just got married and when it came time to go cake tasting, my mom INSISTED that we go to DreamCakes. So we went, and we decided on a «naked» cake, that is, cake with frosting only between the layers. We decided on alternating layers of strawberry cake(dyed the eggplant color of my wedding) and white cake(dyed the champagne color of my wedding) with white vanilla bean butter cream frosting in between. I was so excited! Until I wasn’t… About TWOWEEKS before the wedding, Katie called me to confirm the design we had chosen(as I mentioned above), and then TWODAYS before the wedding my mom called her to confirm the design as well. Now, keep in mind that my wedding was on a WEDNESDAYAFTERNOON — not on a weekend when things can get busy. So we get to the reception site and the cake is already set up… and I was devestated… For starters, the cake was COMPLETELYMADEOFWHITECAKE, NOSTRAWBERRYCAKEATALL — and that was the one flavor I raved about that I loved the most. And the white cake that was present, was not dyed the champagne color we discussed. Secondly, the only thing strawberry on the cake was the ICING in between the layers and it was dyed this horrid shade of Barney purple! Definitely not the eggplant color in my wedding(which Katie took a color swatch from me on the day of our consult so she could«match» it correctly). Also, the icing was very dry and pulled apart from the cake very easily… it was very thick and dried out and I ate around it… When I called Katie the next day to let her know what was wrong with the cake, she said that she misunderstood what we had talked about and that she was sorry. Other than the consult, she spoke to my mother and I on 3 separate occasions before the wedding — all reconfirming the cake design. There was no way she misunderstood. Overall, I was very disappointed by the lack of «understanding» by Katie and was not happy with the fact that she absolutely ruined my wedding cake. Other than the fact that the cake was naked, there was nothing about that cake that was like we ordered! I wish I had gone to another bakery…
