So long Burgers on the Edge, and thanks for all the food. Looking at all the pics from other users makes me realize that sometimes you don’t realize a good thing until its gone. But take solace in that it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never eaten a Burgers on the Edge burger.

Honey, who shrank the burger? Actually, this probably is a quarter pound burger as advertised. Quarter pound = Four ounces and if you look at the pic the patty is about the size of my palm, which as the dieters out there know is approximately four ounces. At any rate this is my roundabout way of saying that I was disappointed in the burger patty. I HATE when the burger is way smaller than the bun. Either get a smaller bun or spread out the patty. On that note the bun(white) was quite good. Not good enough to where I wanted to eat it without meat but a perfect complement to the fillings. I was also disappointed that they did the meat past medium. I like to live on the wild side and have my meat pink in the middle. If you’re going to cook things well done, you might as well use substandard meat. I’m probably not coming back here for a while.

Burgers on the Edge has established itself as my favorite burger joint on the island since I first tried them soon after they opened on Kapahulu. While Teddy’s burgers are also wonderful, they tend to be a bit pricier and don’t have the same level of customization that Burgers on the Edge provides. I have found them to be *much* better, as well as much less expensive than, The Counter. My current favorite is The Antidote burger– crispy, fresh bacon popping with flavor, sauteed mushrooms, baconnaise(don’t judge me until you have tried it– I am officially sold on baconnaise as of today), swiss, tomatoes, and lettuce. Their truffle fries and sweet potato fries are also fantastic. Because I am a sworn hater of ketchup, I like to dip ‘em in the garlic aioli. The only downside to BotE is that it can be tough finding seating at peak hours(not their fault, really– it’s a rather small, yet wildly popular, location). Hopefully they will open up a new, bigger location soon!

I came with a friend of mine with her mother, whom was visiting from Phoenix, AZ on a Friday night, with the intention of going to another restaurant. But as fate would have it, we couldn’t find parking and ended up parking at the Safeway Kapahulu complex instead. After deciding on where to eat, we found ourselves debating on still going to either Thai Herb Kitchen, YounCy Korean BBQ, or here on Burgers on the Edge. I wanted Thai, but inevitably was voted out in favor for burgers. Needless to say, I had never eaten here, so it’s good that I came here too for my keen sense of adventure and the Unilocal kid inside me. I didn’t know what to expect at first and we all stood around looking at the large neon menu above the counter. This place reminded me of The Counter Burger @ Kahala Mall, where you have a clip board and you get to decide on the customization of the burger. For me, I didn’t know what to order, since I wanted something plain and to the point. Nothing fancy for me, since what really works is what was offered as the special of the day, which was the«home style burger combo», which was $ 6.99, which included fries and a drink. In my mind, getting everything ala carte probably did cost more, so being the frugal person that I am, I just went that way and maybe I will come back to Burgers of the Edge later to try their signature creations some other time. The person at the counter was great in how to explain how the ordering worked, especially when I didn’t know either. It was an experience for sure. The home style burger turned out alright. How I miss biting into a burger! Most of the time it had been a plethoria of cuisines, but most of it was either Phở or Subway. It tasted like something from Jack in the Box, most likely something similar to the Jumbo Jack, with the sesame bun. I got the regular fries. The fries ended up tasting like McDonald’s. Not firm and crispy fries like Burger King. We sat and ate at the tables just outside the restaurant, so it was a great Friday evening to chillax after a stressful week of deadlines and endless craziness at work. The wait for the food was about 10 – 15 minutes, so we just sat and talked. The entire experience was average and expected. Good customer service overall and I would come back here again, if I was craving this place again. I would have gone with either the King Arthur burger or the Thai-rrific, if the restaurant had posted prices on their neon menu. I’m pretty sure these burgers are already pricy as it is, so I was surprised to see the final total. I was lucky when my friends’ got the bill for me that night, since I treated them to Phở on the 1st night they got in. Burgers on the Edge is located on Kapahulu Avenue inside the Kapahulu Safeway shopping center complex, Burgers on the Edge can be your burger solution when McDonald’s and your favorite locations just don’t cut it for you anymore. Plenty of parking in the shopping center, but it does get super congested during meal times. Overall, I thought this place is decent, but good. Gourmet burgers are somehow the trend nowadays, so it’s good to check them out to get your burger fix on. Support local! B–

One word: Variety! The create-your-own burger menu is perfect for me… I don’t eat much red meat but they offer an amazing Quinoa veggie burger; toppings are endless. I had a quinoa burger with lettuce, tomatoes, onion straws, and BACON! Bacon fries on the side with baconnaise, woahhh… Bacon overload, my belly was stationary afterwards. Love the different choice you can make, I wish they had a little more space inside the restaurant, but the food is spot-on!

Burgers on the Edge is a place where you can build a burger. I am never sure about what I want exactly so I usually pick one of the choices that they made. It great burgers with varying flavors and tastes! I usually get their Kobe style wagyu beef. Here are some of the food items I get with their pictures. Bacon fries Photo: King Arthur Photo: Thai-riffic Photo: Truffle fries Photo: Counter Some Specials This place is pretty awesome… though I like Kua’aina’s burgers a little more. Awesome

I came here a few times when they first opened and thought their burgers were ok. I remember them being one the first to start the gourmet burger trend. My wife really like the sweet potato fries when we went way back when and since couldn’t find any other place that had fries as good as theirs. We decided to go back this weekend because the wife wanted the sweet potato fries. She had the special which was a classic burger combo with choice of fries and a drink for 6.99. A pretty good deal. She said her burger was good, but she came for the sweet potato fries, which she says is still the best on the island. I had the teri burger special(forgot the name) which had fried onions, mushroom, swiss and a fried egg, kobe style. I ordered truffle garlic fries. Both my items were super good. My burger had everything I liked in it(no lettuce or tomato). Patty was thick and juicy, with a little pink inside… just perfect. Combined with the teri sauce and egg, made it delicious. The truffle fries where some of the best I had. With all the choice in my area, such as papa, counter, teddy’s, w&m, etc… BOTE may be back on the top of my list. Will be back soon!

I was quite confused when I stepped into here and tried to order a burger. You’re basically building a burger from the ground up, picking everything. For those who don’t like it and just are not so picky, be like me and get everything and go simple. I kind of feel bad for the staff that they probably have to repeat the ordering process many times throughout the day. So, what did I get? A vegetarian classic burger with everything. Yeah, seriously, I got a veggy burger. Those who know me probably are going: «What the hell John!?». I’m not vegetarian burger but I wanted to go a little light today. Boy was this a surprise. I never had much experience with veggy burgers but this place makes their veggy burgers taste like the real thing. I was confused for a bit when biting down because I didn’t really know if they messed up my order or what and gave me a regular burger. If burger alone, I’d rate this place a 4 star, but the price and the ordering process is a but of a turn off for me. When I want a burger, I’d like to make it simple, and not make it into a test.

Been meaning to go here for months, but never got around to it. Heard it’s better than Teddy’s. :P Place was clean with friendly staff. Ordered the Malibu with sirloin — sprouts, avocado, lettuce, tomato, 1000 island. Fountain drink machine was junk, sprite and raspberry tea were out of order.): But the SWEETPOTATOFRIES with that sauce they give definitely lived up to the hype on reviews. Overall, neither Teddy’s nor Burgers on the Edge is better than one another. Just«different». Definitely a MUST try! Enjoy!(:

Their«Kaua’i beef», «homemade» «burgers» are more like a «meatloaf» cause they add eggs and bread. True story. Try ask them to cook it rare or med-rare. So they have that going for them, I guess. Other than that, the rest of the food is pretty lousy. 3 better burger places within 3 miles. Lazy bastards. I Crush Your Head!

Oh… I’m a fan. After walking to Leonards, we happened to see this place, and it was jam packed. When we left Safeway, there were people sitting there eating their burgers and they looked delish. Guess what… later on that night, we walked, from Kuhio and Royal Hawaiian to get some of those tasty burgers. And yes sir, it was totally worth it. Yes, the menu is a bit much, so many options, but it’s much easier when you simply ogle the menu for hours before you actually get to the restaurant. That’s what I did… totally simplfied things. There are so many crazy flavor combinations to rustle up, and some of their On the Edge favorites sounded yummy as well. I saw some negative reviews about the burgers being overcooked… but not mine. I had the Kobe with tomato, bacon, garlic aioli, cheddar cheese, pickles and red onions… and I was totally satisfied. I actually left stuffed, and welcomed the long walk home. The place was spotless when we went, and I loved that they had little wet naps for your hands(it’s the little things y’all) and that the patty itself wasn’t super thick. I hate a burger where the meat part is so thick and flavorless that all you can taste is the meat. Uggh. What’s the point of having toppings if they’re obliterated by the overwhelming beef factor? Sure, there are places like this springing up all over the country, I get it… but hell, a good burger is a good burger, and when it is properly cooked, well seasoned, topped with the perfect amount of fresh toppings AND served up with impossibly crisp and hot skinny fries, there’s no need to do anything but chow down and enjoy yourself.

Limited choices of burger meat, use of processed cheese, bizare sauces and the inability to cook the burgers to the correct temp hurt what could be a great place in a great location. Simply put, the Kobe style(I hate it when restaurants use this term since they only mean the same breed of cow) burger and Sirloin burgers are not as flavorful or juicy as you would expect from high quality beef. Always overcooked. Any juiciness is lost(upsetting since their own menu says the Kobe style is cooked medium and never is). Finally, the selection of sauces and toppings; the best build your own burger places ive been to keep it simple and to a theme. If you cannot pick every topping and sauce and spread it on a single burger, eat it, keep it down for five minutes then say it was OK you have too many.(Possible new food network show?) Sorry but Burgers on the Edge leaves me longing for a burger at the other place that lets you«have it your way»

After hearing the raves and following them on Twitter, I finally was able to go to Burgers on the Edge. May I share something without sounding like I am slamming them to the ground? For the same price, I can buy a bigger burger at *drumroll* TEDDY’S BIGGERBURGER Don’t get me wrong, the classic burger and the sweet potato fries were delicious. *The customer service* I am going to isolate our cashier person from the rest of the staff and say that she needs customer service training. Mumbling my order and then interrupting mid-sentence because you are slow at punching in the order is not an excuse to be rude and irritated especially because my order was not complicated. *Ambiance* Order inside by reviewing the chalkboard menu items. You have your choice for sitting inside(limited seating) or outside that has tables and umbrellas for shade. *Food* Pretty good but this is from someone who loves cheeseburgers

I can’t remember the last time I went to burgers on the edge, possibly over a year go. And boy have I missed it! It’s changed a lot since the last time. They replaced those nice LG tv menus, with those of a board somewhat similar to a blackboard. Slipping a little? The atmosphere isn’t bad, it’s a cute, little place. Truly reflecting the atmosphere of Kapahulu ave. Since the beginning, I have always stuck with the Thai-riffic. Kobe beef, swiss cheese, greens, onion straws, bacon, and my favorite part, the sweet chili sauce to top it off. Now, I’m not one to eat messy food, in fact, I hate it quite frankly, but these burgers are just so mouthwatering, totally worth the mess of things. The fries can be a little salty at times. Sometimes too salty, other times, too bland. I usually get the combo, around $ 11. Some may argue it’s expensive, which I think it is, but I’ve truly fallen in love with the thai-riffic burger, it’s worth all $ 11 dollars. Now, the only thing I would have to disagree on, is how long they take to prepare your food. I mean, everything seems to be pre-made, just warm it up, put it together, and there you go. It shouldn’t take you fifteen minutes to make a damn burger, especially when I’m the only customer. You’re lucky your burgers taste good.

Who ever thought that a veggie burger would contain quinoa? Someone at BOTE thought it would be a good idea! Who knows if it is though since I’ve always eaten beef burgers… I’m a meatatarian I admit it! CHOMPCHOMP. I eat whatever burger creations they have already premade for my convenience… I’ve tried to build my own but it doesn’t taste as delicious! I try ones with toppings I like and frankly, the ones with sprouts taste the best. Who knew sprouts would taste so good on a burger? I didn’t but now I do. Service is speedy compared to the Counter and while they don’t have table service, it’s faster to get your own refills anyway. Also, their sweet potato fries are a LOT better than the Counter and their sauce is much better as well. I won’t subject myself to the Counter again. They do have good stuff at the Counter but there are other factors involved like wait time, no good fry sauce, and unless I have my cousin as my server, I had crappy service there too. Sad face. Next time I want to try their veggie quinoa burger and I’ll let you know how it goes… if i ever get around to trying it when there are so many good meat options!

I’m always in the area, and my coworkers suggested it one day while discussing burgers. Personally, I am not a burger fan, but I was craving bleu cheese. And you know when you get those cravings, you need to eat it now! Well, it took me about a week before I dragged myself there. Mind you, it is just burgers they offer(other than shakes and other little arrangements, but this place is definitely all about their burgers). To build a burger, there were way too many options to pick from, so I went with the BB&B. BB&B Combo– 5-stars– So basically, it’s bacon(B number 1) with lettuce and tomatoes and barbecue sauce(B second) and a layer of bleu cheese(B the three) and then the delicious Wagyu Kobe beef burger in-between two pieces of bun. Right? I know. The first bite was a bit overwhelming with the sweet, flavorful barbecue sauce mixing with the potent, earthy flavors of the bleu. Altogether with the beef and the bacon, it was excellence. I told one of my distant eaters, she will definitely be eating here with me when she visits Hawaii again(and we’ve eaten around the country together). One thing I appreciate is the fact I can eat this burger without it leaking, dripping, and making the buns soggy from all the excess juices accumulating into a puddle of black moisture. Delicious. Sweet Potato French Fries– 4 ½-stars– The fries are thinly sliced, with a light batter which flakes off only slightly, and then fried. This is sprinkled over with some salt and dried parsley. They are very crunchy and delicious. There is a sauce that comes with it(if it is thousand island, they add a little more spices, so it’s a little on the medium hot side for some weaker mouths). Atmosphere– Well walking in, the place was kinda tiny with a couple seats arranged, but the people there weren’t really ready to share. Actually they were more interested in starting at the other people there. Anyhow, the menu is presented in several different ways – on at least two displays, on a clip-board(where you can choose your own adventure to building a burger) and their basic menus. Let’s just say, if you have eyes, you know the options. The same window you place your order, you get your order. Most available seating was outside, which is fine for me, so I can people-watch the crowds walking by and parking – that’s entertainment for me. Depending on the breeze and the weather, you may need to choose your seating carefully. Also, the birds are very friendly, and aren’t shy sitting in the seat across from you hoping for some handouts. Sorry, none for you today little birds! Service– So-so service. They were more interested in a co-worker, whom I assume was visiting on a day off from their conversation. I also tried to watch as they prepared the burgers, but they seemed put-off by this, at least from the eyes I was getting. Still, I got my food quickly, and as I said, the burger was delicious. Conclusion– I was initially hesitant to even visit from the reviews I’ve read. My experience was wholesome and fulfilling, perfectly hitting my burger craving – and as I said, I am not a fan of burgers in general. I enjoyed the way in which they made their burgers, giving if life and flavor together. Perhaps they’re still improving their recipes or they’re working out the kinks, but either way, what I got was outstanding and delicious. It is definitely worth a try being creative – I mean, I saw barbecue sauce and bleu cheese, I was grossed out; I ate it, and I was blown away.

Fortunately my friend only told me this was his 2nd favorite burger place, so I didn’t have super high expectations, but still! This is basically a walkup with an outdoor dining area. Very casual spot. You can build your own burger with tons of options, organized by meat, cheese, sauce, buns, and toppings. I started filling out what I wanted, but when I turned it in, the girl said«hey this is practically the same thing as the Thai-riffic and it would be cheaper» I thought that was cool of her – it turns out build your own is slightly more expensive. The Thai-riffic is sweet chili sauce, swiss, baby greens, crispy onions, & bacon. It was ok – didn’t seem like it came out hot enough and the bun was too bready. Overall it’s a good concept, it just wasn’t well executed.

I often look at the menu board at Burgers on the Edge(BOTE) and wonder to myself…“How many burger combination’s could there be?” To the person who can answer that for me, I will be very appreciative. Anyway, BOTE offers a fantastic selection of burgers(or if you are a true burger connoisseur, burgers AND sandwiches), along with good service and some very reasonable prices. So you have two choices. One, you can take the lazy(but still choice laden) route and pick one of their pre-determined menu burgers. Or two, build your own burger with the 1000’s of combination that they have available. If you choose to build your own burger, here’s how it works. 1) CHOOSEYOURPROTEIN Whether you want beef, chicken, quinoa, veggie, turkey, etc. Also, comes in single or double patty, and do you want Kobe beef or chuck? See where there are a lot of potential combinations here. 2) DOYOUWANTCHEESE? I think that one is self explanatory but there are quite a few choices. 3) DOYOUWANTSAUCESORCONDIMENTS? 4) TOPPINGS? 5) BUNCHOICE? See how there are quite a few combination’s here… Well I am one of those people who can’t decide and just opted to take one of their pre-determined menu burgers and I have to say, I am an addict to the BB&B Burger. Bacon, Blue Cheese, and BBQ sauce on a burger, what’s not to like with those three things? I often get mine with chicken, just so I can say I am being a bit healthier, but the beef is nothing to sneer at and in my humble opinion a BURGER. Don’t forget to try out their sides like their bacon fries, onion rings, and their really awesome sweet potato fries that just have the right balance of sweet and salty. Service is pretty quick considering your burgers are made to order. Be prepared to eat al fresco(on their patio) because they have limited seating indoors or take it on home. Definitely a must stop for the burger lover! Oh and I got bored so I figured out that there are 30,748,536 possible combination based on their current menu.

Ordering at Burgers On The Edge felt like taking the SATs all over again. They give you a clip board and red pencil so that you can create a custom burger or choose from their special burger menu. I don’t like to make choices, I like to have someone say«Hey this is good. Eat this and you’ll be happy.» I spend all day having to make choices and the last thing I want is to have to decide on four toppings, special sauces and creating a burger masterpiece! My BF really enjoyed making it his own(I think it’s because he likes to make decisions) and I ordered the«Thai-rrific» burger that I had heard so much about. Sweet chili sauce, wagu beef, crispy onions and BACON! It was DELICIOUS and everything put together was perfection. I don’t even really like to eat burgers but I really enjoyed this! We shared sweet potato french fries and although they were $ 4.89, they were well worth it! The whole meal justified taking the SATs over again. I think I’d take the GMAT for those fries! The staff at Burger’s on the Edge were just about the nicest people I’ve ever encountered at a fast casual restaurant. Our menu greeter was really helpful during our SATs, the cashier was happy to take our order and there was an older woman who said«Have a great day!» as we were leaving. I want to know what they are feeding their people? Because I need to send that over to a few grumpy restaurants! The only reason why Burgers On The Edge doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because they don’t have ice cream shakes. I’m holding onto that last star until they break out that blender dammit!
