Extra Space Storage

Facility is clean; Friendly Staff; Feel safe. I prefer this location and company than the Public Storage in Ewa Beach because the cost is less.
Cons: 1) I don’t like their elevator system: slow and have to wait if other ppl are there because you can’t go on a different floor until they are done going to their floor if they were there first (I like the Public Storage elevator system better)
2) There’s an increase. Would be nice to have a fix rate. Though it’s not too bad because I’m renting a 5×5 unit and paid $ 26.18/month ($ 25/​month plus tax) since ¹⁰⁄₂₀₁₄. Then they slowly increase to $ 31.45 by ⁵⁄₂₀₁₅. Then 12/​2015, they increased again to $ 36.65 at the present (⁶⁄₂₀₁₆). It’s not too bad because it’s still a deal. I’m hoping that they won’t increase too much so I can continue to rent it instead of moving out.

Dennis from xtraspace storage was so nice and helpful. He called me after i made an online reservation and gave me all the information i needed to come down and sign for the storage unit. He was upfront about what to expect for cost of the monthly rent in addition to the cost of insurance. When i arrived, he showed me how to get in and out of the unit as well as how to access the locker from the step ladder. Everything turned out great and the customer service was wonderful. Im looking forward to creating this relationship with Dennis and xtraspace. Mahalo!

BEWARE OF EXTRA SPACE RENT INCREASES
Every 9 – 10 months they will jack up your monthly rent by 10−15%!
They think that you would rather pay more than move out.
You won’t get a fixed term contract so they will increase your rent whenever they decide on «market rates».
Be ready to move out before you pay far too much.
Their plan is pure Bait & Switch

The only good thing I can say is that the storage units are clean and they do check on them. There is also indoor parking. Otherwise they are terrible. The customer service is non-​existant and the employees act like they are doing you a favor, It is so obvious that no one likes their job. The elevator is terribly slow but there is supposedly another one at the other end of the building. They are not open on Sunday (but there is access) so that makes the place a little scary especially to me as a single female. There is no dumpster and they just say take your trash with you!
I finally moved to another more affordable and friendly place. Met 3 others the day I was moving out with the exact same comments especially about the unfriendly employees who would probably die if they had to smile.

Went down to Extra Space Storage to buy a couple mattress covers. The employees were amazingly helpful in suggesting a product and helping me with my purchase. Service with a smile! If I need storage or further packing supplies, I will absolutely be back!

I had an excellent experience with Extra Space Storage. Their facility is very clean and well-​maintained. The building security is state of the art — I felt safe leaving my things there. The staff members were helpful and professional throughout the process, I found their customer service to be fantastic! I shopped around before committing to a storage company, and found their prices were the best in town. I would use Extra Space Storage again in a heartbeat!

Full on bait and switch. Quoted one price over the phone from corporate but when I arrived at the facility they tacked on administrative fees and required me to purchase their insurance which was 30% of the cost of my unit. The final price was almost double what I had been quoted.
Really disappointing — seems like a nice, clean facility but I will take my business somewhere else.

Overpriced to start with, then they try and force you into a bigger locker than you need, and then tack on extras like insurance. Also very unfavorable lease conditions made even worse starting 9÷1÷15.

oh oh, Extra Space Storage jacked up my rent way up.
The 3’x4’ locker is now $ 99.48.
I’m shopping around for a better deal in town. Seems as if they get you in at a very low rate. For me it started out with a teaser at $ 48. Six months later, the rent was doubled.

I need storage for a temporary move/​renovation. I have seen many storage companies in and around town, and I went to visit all of them to compare pricing and to see how the companies matched their ratings online. I was pleasantly surprised with Extra Space. Kenya and Roz were helpful and made me feel important– they took the time to show me around and discuss my options. Their prices were the lowest that I have seen in June. I think other places were low on inventory due to the summer months and college students needing a place to stow their stuff. You need to get insurance on your stuff, but even with that, their prices were low. The facility is kept clean and their hours are good. They’re not 24 hours, but you can get to your stuff up till 10 pm. I don’t know why I would need to go later than that, nor would I want to.

Major Price Hikes
Ever since Extra Space Storage took over StorQuest, prices have gone up and service has gone down. I chose StorQuest because I needed to keep some artwork in a climate controlled facility, as well as because of the King St. location (central) and the price. Just received notice of another price hike, which means storage costs have gone up 56% in 3 years. The facility also seems to have cut down on the air conditioning, so it is pretty stuffy in the storage area. I live on the mainland and can only visit Honolulu once a year, but will look for another facility this fall.

Extra Space Storage met almost all of my needs for short-​term storage while I had a several-​day window between the end of my old lease and signing papers on my new place. After I made a reservation online, a representative called me immediately to talk about my needs and helped me understand that I actually needed a larger unit than I’d thought. Since I said I couldn’t come take a look before moving day, we had a long discussion about the unit and what I needed, and when I was informed of the monthly price (very high for a 5×5 unit at just over $ 100 – but consistent with island storage pricing), the representative extended the first-​month-​free promotion to this larger unit that accommodated my needs perfectly. I confirmed the rep was indeed right about what I needed when I was able to go take a look at the larger one.
I was also very pleased with the attention to detail and positive overall customer service experience when I went in to view the unit and sign move-​in papers prior to moving day. My one disappointment is with the overly complicated elevator. There is literally a training to operate it because codes are required, one’s access is limited to only the floor to which one is assigned, and most frustrating, the process just to get to the unit in question (in my experience and observation of others’) tends to go wrong more often than right. Add to that the warning from the rep at Extra Storage that too many failed attempts or delays in use of the elevator will cause it to stop working entirely, and I frankly see no reason for this level of barriers to access for people who need it.
When I – admittedly, frustrated and impatient – sought help from another rep on move-​in day after a lack of success in operating said elevator, I finally had to say, «OMG I hate this stupid elevator.» I think this was justified, and it was clearly not an attack on the customer service, but the response from the rep really, honestly made the situation worse. Instead of acknowledging that the experience is frustrating and overly difficult, the response from the rep was, «It’s for your own security, ma’am.» She was clearly annoyed at my frustration – but seriously, as I pointed out, the security is much too high if the person who *should* have access to the unit they paid for cannot access it without help (and outside office hours, there is no help). This is not the Pentagon, people. If this part of the process were streamlined and made more accessible to the appropriate parties, I would happily give this business a 5-​star rating.

I like this place coz the staff are very accommodating and the place is nice and clean; very good location and the storage hours works well for me.

This place is very good air conditioned and first time for me to rent a space. I was looking for just a small spot and got what I was looking for.
Matt is very helpful and explained all the rules and security. This place is new very clean and the price is reasonable for my needs.
They have small carts available to help you wheel in your boxes.
Now my unit is small and you need a stair to open and get to storage. So make sure what you want and inspect it first.

Poor customer service

Currently being charged $ 560 for damage to the elevators the MOVERS did. Although the movers should be our responsibility, as a storage facility that people store LARGE items in shouldnt they have a more durable elevator? FYI dont try to keep the elevator open after it starts beeping. I knew this, but my movers insisted on forcing it to stay open ON THE TOP FLOOR WHERE WE WERE NOT!

I have had so many problems with Extra Storage since they took over the facility. The latest is that so many carts have been stolen (yes, no security) that carts are now not available except during office hours, and there are only 4 carts for the whole facility. I rent two large units for almost $ 800 a month, and I will absolutely be looking for storage that will accommodate the business owner and not the chronics who do whatever they want to do because of the lack of security.

Apparently Extra Space Storage just bought out Stor Quest who has done a fantastic job and been a pleasure to work with the last couple of years.
My first experience has not been good with Extra Space. They deactivated my code because they didn’t process my auto pay, NICE!
Next they have taken the position that my old rate doesn’t apply and a new rate of more than 25% more is all they can do. NICE!
Let me say in closing is I can’t wait to move my stuff out and plan never to recommend them to anyone.
Just one very unhappy customer! Not recommended!
