Love this place for what it is – really good Indian food you can get quick. Everything is good, all the time, every single time I’ve gone. There is indeed just one chicken choice(sometimes they have lamb, too) but it’s good — consistently tender with just a little spice. I don’t eat a lot of vegetables but I order the two-veggie plate all the time because the curries are spiced so interesting. I admit portions have been on the small-side in the past but I went today for lunch and the mellow guy who is usually serving(is that the owner?) gave me a big plate for the $ 11. I can eat a lot, and I’m getting two good meals out of it. Best meal I have had in a while, too, including from there. Not bad for take out

Good fast indian takeout. Similar to Komala Curry House. Does the trick satisfying my Indian craving. If I had a choice, I’d go with Maharani or Taj Mahal. This is tied for third with KCH though. And for a single person doing takeout, you can get good variety for a decent price.

This is a go to place if you want some quick and tasty Indian food. They have only one chicken option for the meat lovers which I would say OK. Their veg curries are very good and it has a good flavor, spice and heat(the important trio for the Indian taste buds) Majority of their curries have Southern Indian cuisine flavor. When I checked out about this with the owner, he informed me that his mom(their master chef) was from Chennai(formerly known as Madras which is the capital of the southern state Tamilnadu in India). It is the same place where I lived for almost 25 years in India :) Felt really happy :) Me and my room mates used to frequent(only take outs and never dined there) this place a lot during my bachelor days ;) We used to order take out(curries can be ordered as ala carte) whenever we feel tired and there is no mood for cooking dinner: D We always have a stock of frozen roti/paratha from India Market(which is close to this place) or naan bread(from Costco or Sams). The curries go well with these breads :) It also goes well with the basmati rice(which we have it in stock always so it can be prepared in minutes). I have 2 concerns 1) They could increase the quantity for the take out Ala-carte curries. For the price they charge, it could be more. 2) They close early and by the time we reach there after work everything is sold out :( All in all this is a good place for Indian curries.

I love India Bazaar. It’s a great place to go after a big workout when you crave something really filling. Their portions are large, and the food is so affordable and delicious. Everything is already prepared so if you are dying of hunger, there is no wait for your food! They always have a vegan option, and there is always an option for people who can’t tolerate spicy food. Some of the indian restaurants on the island make food far too spicy for me, but India Bazaar’s «mild» suits me well. Shan Parmley(the owner) is always thinking of new items to bring to the menu. Check out Shan Parmley cooking coconut chutney at: or on youtube at …

The hours are erratic and inconsistent, the service is unfriendly and unenthusiastic, there is no working phone number… but the food is SOFREAKINGGOOD. It takes less than a minute to get delicious Indian food. The location is super covert, so there’s never a line. Despite the fact that everything screams«bad business practice», the amazing food earns my five stars.

Great food! A bit pricey. I spent over $ 18.00 for a 1 entrée plate with 2 veggie side dishes, a canned drink and indian bread. That’s about what I would pay for sitting down in a better than average restaurant. And this was lunch served to me in a below average ambiance on a paper plate! However, I liked the casualness of the locale, the decent service and the flavor of the food which was excellent.

Update! I now consistently crave the food here. If I go two weeks without it, I’m really needing it! Yeah they’ve raised their prices recently, but who hasn’t? In my not very humble opinion, it is some of the best Indian food you’ll find here. Yes, I’m aware of what is right down the street. They have some regular items, but they do change it up. I appreciate a place that isn’t afraid to do just a few things exceedingly well, rather than have everything for everybody. I recently tried the mung bean and sweet potato curry, it kinda blew my mind! And I’m more of a Dal and Masal kinda guy. I had to try it out of pure curiosity, now it’s a fav. Often times, they run out or low on choices after the lunch rush. So I highly recommend this place for lunch, if you want the full array. Still wish they’d stay open a little later… :)

I dont know why people like this place that much… it’s really light flavored food and overpriced… $ 2 for a bread which you can find a pack of 5 sold for $ 2 easily in grocery store…

Many of the reviews written already describe the place well. This place is basic curries, their paratha is hot and crispy. They have some sort of beans all the time, chickpeas, lentils, veggie curries, potatoes, everything has the homemade taste and you get plenty for the money.

Normally I’m not a pre-made hot food bar kinda foodie, but I must say, I devoured every bite just short of licking my plate. I had the mini veggie plate which included 1 rice &2 veggies. I chose the spicy broccoli and the veggie coconut curry with a side of paratha(naan bread). OMG, simple yet truly bold Indian flavors. Delish. Definitely coming back again and again and again…

We were on our way to Manoa Falls and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. I came across this indian joint on Unilocal. The food was very good. They had options for mild and spicy. I had the veggie plate with rice, coconut curry and mushroom potato. My husband also had paratha. Everything was very flavorful. I highly recommend this place for fast indian food.

This hole-in-the wall joint looks very basic, both inside and out, but makes up for the lack of ambiance with simple-but-satisfying Indian food. You need to dodge the drippy air con over the door as you enter. Inside, tables and chairs look temporary — think card tables and chairs. The floor is super bare and looks like it needs to be given a thorough cleaning. Simple India tourism posters cover the walls, and a small sharing library of books(random titles on any topic) beckons for those who have wandered in solo. You order at the counter. The staff is friendly and helpful. There’s a tip jar if you want to leave a dollar or two. The real reason to come here is for the food. It lacks all the sophistication(and saltiness) of the well-known Indian destination restaurant down the street; it feels more like the kind of Indian food your Indian mother would make for you to keep you healthy. The curries are subtle in flavor, but chock-full of veggies and other healthy ingredients. Brown rice is an option for those looking to nurture their bodies as much as possible. In the end the best comparison might be health food store food bar down the street — India Bazaar’s curries taste like they might be served there, but are noticeably less expensive. All in all this is a good, comfortable place to grab a quick bite of Indian food.

This place is one of Honolulu’s best kept secrets. And it’s easy. Easier than popping a frozen pizza in the oven. It’s definitely unassuming from the outside, and even more unassuming from the inside, but the food is delicious. I suggest take out. If it’s your lucky day and they have lamb curry, I suggest you seize the opportunity and take that as your main plate. The regular chicken plate, however, is really great. All the sides I’ve tried are very good, too. If you like your Indian food spicy, make sure you ask which dish is the spiciest and go with that. You really can’t go wrong. This place is fool-proof and indecisive-friendly.

Indian light. The«chicken plate»($ 9.50) is a chicken curry atop a bed of what appears to be saffron basmati rice + 2 vegetable dishes. Though the curry was rather simple and thin, it was still pretty good. For my vegetables I selected potato-mushroom, and lentil-spinach. Good. Paratha flatbread also good($ 1.65). Because it’s pan-fried(vs. baked), it’s greasier than my favorite naan. All in all, this place is good for a quick fix of decent Indian food.

I was craving Indian food but didn’t want to go to a restaurant by myself and order food enough for 5(I like variety so I would need at least a few things). Looked this place up on Unilocal and I like it a lot! I chose a plate of one meat choice(chicken today), two veggie sides(tofu veggies and beans veggies. also delicious!). Only $ 9, so cheap! They don’t have samosas or naan right now, but they do have a bread called Partha. It’s so buttery and flakey. you really need to get it if you eat here, it’s AMAAAZING to dip in the curry sauces! I will definitely be back :)

What I love about this place is good food and cheap prices! After having been to several Indian restaurants here, I have been used to the large portions and high prices. As Lori put it, this is the Panda Express of Indian food! You get smaller portions at lower prices, but the plate is large enough to satisfy you. Mini plates are also available if you don’t eat that much. A chicken plate will only set you back about $ 10. It comes with two vegetables. The awesome thing is that their vegetables are complex. When I stopped by yesterday, I got to choose coconut veggie curry, and a spicy lentil and eggplant dish. While there are not as many choices as a regular Indian restaurant, I still like this place a lot. Cheap, good food always makes me happy. There are only a handful of tables in this establishment. If you want a drink, they sell them out of a refrigerated case by the cash register. Water is also available from a water tank with cups nearby. Parking is good and easy as long as Sweet Home Café isn’t open. If they are open, I have say good luck because there’s so many people and they take up all of the parking stalls.

Great customer service. The lady was really nice: D I got a mini veggie plate which was less than $ 7 and an Indian bread for $ 1.60 or something. The bread was really good :) Hot and crispy outside. The curry, I got some tofu curry and coconut curry. The tofu was okey but the coconut wasn’t my favorite.

I’m so glad I found this place as a quick /to-go /hole in the wall /cafeteria style eatery. The interior is not as nice as it gets, but the food is pretty darn delicious. A couple things I wanted as I sat there were: 1) Naan — but only because I have a love affair with bread 2) A big dollop of thick, creamy, cucumber cool — yogurt sauce to mix with the warm and spicy goodness of the curries. Great option for vegetarians because I really didn’t miss the meat all TOO much(but I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss lamb/pork/beef at all) — Chicken was good enough for me this time around. As I said before, it’s a quick fix, but you’ll still have to go to one of the other Indian restaurants around the island to get a true and satisfying Indian food experience.

I need to update my review to 5 stars because I’ve been here numerous times and just LOVELOVELOVE their food! Vegetarian/Vegan… All the spices… #getinmybelly. The guy behind the counter is very nice. And it’s soooooo quick and convenient to pick up a plate here. Besides the limited parking outside… I absolutely LOVE this place and their food.
