First of all, I am going to start off by saying THECURRY is wayyy different from Curry House. THECURRY make their own special curry. You cannot find their curry anywhere else but here! The curry is conveniently located right next to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka. The store is filled with bright lights. You cannot miss it! The menu is very simple to order: Pick your type of curry: Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, or Soup Pick your type of meat: Vegetable, Chicken, Beef, or Shrimp Pick your type of rice: White, Brown, Sticky, or Rice Noodle Pick your type of spicy: Mild, Medium, Hot, Extra hot, Fire, Extra Fire All orders come with salad and mac salad! We ordered Indian curry chicken, Vietnamese curry chicken, and Soup curry shrimp. We recommend you to get their sticky rice because their curry and the sticky rice is a great combination! We all think their curry is made into perfection! Plus, their curry is very reasonably priced! The best part is there is NOMSGNOMSGNOMSGNOMSG! So if you are ever at Don Quijote to do some grocery shopping, stop by The Curry to have lunch or dinner. I am sure you will leave with your stomach and heart filled with happiness!

I just found out abt this place 2 weeks ago. I have been to don quijote for at least 20 years(since when they were called daiei, and holiday mart), just never walked past the eateries. Anyway i happened to walk by and decided to try. I am now hooked. I ate there 3 times in the past 2 weeks. There are so many different kinds of curry. I tried thai green and red curries. Onolicious! They have 6 different grades of spiciness from mild to extra fire. I tried level 4(extra hot) and it was too spicy for me. I will stick to either medium or hot. You can also choose different types of rice: white, brown or sticky. The prices are also very reasonable. The polynesian lady working there is very friendly and courteous. The lady boss is also very friendly. This will be my regular spot from now on.

This is the best spot to get Japanese curry! All of the flavor with none of the typical MSG!!! For only $ 8 I think you can get a delicious japanese vegetable curry(I always order with no egg, carrots or potatoes and more of the other veggies,) two scoops of brown rice, all greens(no salad dressing) and wow!!! Also, I would recommend dining in because they serve the food in real dishware instead of styrofoam(limited seating but no one ever dines in when I go.) Delicious, fast, inexpensive and pretty healthy to boot!!!

This place is A+ in so many ways! The food is fantastic! Had some Indian Chicken curry and the price was VERY reasonable and very generous portions! For 8 dollars, you walk away with enough food for at least two meals! The employees were extremely helpful and friendly. While I did not take advantage of the inside seating area, it looked like a quiet area to escape the commotion from outside. The only issue was simply finding the place, as it is not quite on the beaten path. A couple blocks from Kalakaua, just look for the sign for Don Quijote store and it’s right outside the store. If you want high quality curry on the cheap, I highly recommend stopping here!

Absolutely love this place! They keep getting better and better. Customer service is SUPERB! I love the new worker. She’s really friendly and the food is absolutely worth it for the price you pay. Plus too, for a $ 1 more, you could get a drink with your order.

Let me preface this review by saying I really despise cabbage. When I opened up the to-go styrofoam and saw a bed of cabbage with thousand island I prepared myself for the worst. There’s a reason this veg is used as an oil absorber for fried foodstuffs. My fears quickly disappeared though because«the curry» is seriously the stuff of the gods. Maybe I’m exaggerating, maybe I’m inexperienced in the realm of curry but to me it was one of the best curries ever. Since switching to a pescetarian/vegetarian diet, food options are limited and I have to be mindful about eating out. The Curry’s vegetarian curry options are great for the vegetarian customer like me. I went with the veggie curry soup with sticky rice. There were huge chunks of potato, carrots, broccoli, and even a piece of winter melon! Definitely a filling and flavorful meal. I really believe they don’t use MSG here as advertised b/there was no after meal kanak attacks, just a giant veggie food baby, lol. The mac salad wasn’t anything special like the side salad, but it paired well with the savory curry and rice. All in all ‘the curry’ is not without its minor flaws and I can overlook the cabbage side salad but it’ll cost ‘the curry’ one star.

I love this place. I am a vegetarian, so love their veggie options. My favorite is the Hokkaido Vegetable Curry. I have heard their other food is really good too. Somehow I can never get myself to eat anything else here because Hokkaido Vegetable Curry is delicious! My boyfriend got Chicken Red Curry. They accidentally gave him yellow curry, which he enjoyed. Then they brought out another curry(red curry) as a complimentary meal. Very friendly service. The area has open seating, so take away is a good option if you want nicer ambience.

I usually have a Soup vegetables curry no carrot EXTRAFIRE!!! No MSG and they make it with many flavorful spices! I also like NO.1 seller Indian beef curry no carrot EXTRAFIRE! Soup vegetable curry and Indian beef curry are both good with brown rice. They also have choices for sticky rice and white rice.

I had just finished my boot camp class and was famished. My friend and I walked to Don Quixote food court. There we saw«The Curry». It was calling my name and I wanted something very spicy as well. I looked at the menu and decided to order a recommended dish, which was the chicken Thai curry fire spicy. The wait was about ten minutes. The broth, chicken, potatoes and carrots came in a huge styrofoam container. In another plate I had two scoops of rice and Mac salad. The only con I had was that it was not spicy enough. I picked the highest range of hotness. Lol. The potatoes melted in my mouth. The chicken was thick, moist and cooked very well in the curry. There was a healthy amount of carrots as well. The combination of rice, chicken, pieces of potatoes literally melted in my mouth with the composite. I will be back to try their other offerings!

Delicious curry place with lots of choices. There were Indian curry, Thai curry, and other different curry dishes. The cashier that took our orders were super nice and friendly; full of smiles. I ordered the popular plate of Indian curry, and selected brown rice(out of white rice, sticky rice and rice noodles) and«extra fire»; the highest level of spicy. It was delicious, and pleasantly spicy. It has lots of tender beef, carrots and potatoes. In addition, there are two scoops of rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad, and a serving of thinly sliced cabbage with thousand island dressing. Definitely felt full afterwards. For $ 7.25(+tax), and you can add $ 1 for a drink, it was a good deal & good meal.

I ordered the indian chicken curry. The woman at the register was very sweet and polite. The indian curry was definitely a different flavor, I would compare it to sumo ramen… and…watered down…:-/

I was on my usual veggie run to Don Quijote today when the«NOMSG» sign caught my eye. I love another curry house here locally but their use of MSG causes me health difficulties. This menu seemed to be suffering a national identity crisis, but it was simple enough once I took a moment to understand it before asking questions. You choose between Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese or Thai(yellow or green) curry, or something called baked curry. I’m not sure what country that is from. You choose brown, white or sticky rice or rice noodle, and then choose your level of spiciness — mild to FIRE. You get green salad and mac salad. You get mini or regular. Simple! I ordered the regular size, mild Indian beef curry with brown rice and got all green salad instead of mac salad, to go. The service was friendly and fast, and everything looked super-clean. The curry was packaged in a separate bowl, and the rice and salad were on a plate. This prevented a huge sloppy mess in the car. The curry contained about six small pieces of beef with generous chunks of carrots and potatoes. The mild sauce did not quite taste like Indian curry to me, but it was flavorful and had a little heat to it — not too much, still mild. There were two small scoops of brown rice and the green salad turned out to be not salad, but only plain baby spinach in a small portion. I love spinach, so that was fine. The dressing was an overly-sweet French type which I will ask them to leave off next time, as I did not care for it. Overall, the amount of food was on the petite side for a regular plate, but still adequate and filling — not too much food. Finally, I waited for the familiar numb, swollen feeling in my hands and arms which I get when I accidentally consume MSG — nothing. So I feel fairly confident in their claim of using no MSG, and happy to have a curry that I can actually eat. Based on the one experience so far — five stars and I will return.

My experience at «The Curry» started out well enough. «I’m going to have lunch with my four year old, we’ll sit at an outdoor table and bond and it’ll be awesome and I will be the best mother ever!» So with that in mind, I came across«The Curry» and, as a lover of all curries, I was intrigued by the low prices, the simple menu, the proclaimed lack of msg, and the words«Vietnamese Curry». I love Vietnamese Curry. I ordered the vegetarian version with rice and began the mother-daughter bonding time. Irritatingly, my daughter did not want to bond with me nearly as much as she wanted to wiggle for no reason at all and bond with the pigeons. This is not the fault of «The Curry», it is the fault of what some may call«poor parenting». I would explain myself and my parenting woes but this is not the place and, as we all know, I only write extremely relevant information in my reviews. Continuing on. I had also not eaten at an outdoor table at Daie, I mean, Don Quixote for a good eight years, and did not account for the interesting«company» I would be dining with. There was an older smiling man dressed impeccably in a ragtime getup of a nice white and red striped shirt, black suspenders, slacks, and shiny shoes that at one point asked what nationality I was. Fully expecting to launch into a lovely conversation with a nice man who was lonely and probably full of nice tales of the past and make my husband, who loves old people, proud of me, I engaged. WRONGMOVE. The nice man turned out to be drunk and bitter man who, while I was trying to be nice and ask him questions(in response to his questions) said«Why are you asking me so many questions?!!» then proceeded to rant about how much he hated Hawaii and how it’s hell-a-dise(Oh the wit) and how he loved Japan because of the ladies but hated Korea and he became so animated while spewing out his diatribe that he knocked over his beer which was saved from cracking by the brown paper bags crumpled around it. At this point the four year old who had been squirming like a mofo, reached across to snatch my water bottle which caught the edge of my bowl ½ off my extremely yellow curry was tipped onto my favorite sun dress. So now I looked as though I had soiled myself terribly. Like I had soiled myself, then rolled around on the ground to spread the soiling because I am part animal. I still grocery shopped, soiling be damned. If you’re still with me, I commend you. Here’s your reward, a little bit of usefulness. The curry was excellent. I will eat it again. I will, however, take it to eat in the peace and quiet of my own home many many feet away from pigeons, drunk men, and flailing four year olds. I will also put on Anthony Bourdain to enhance the exotic feelings. So… yeah. Eat at The Curry, it’s pretty good.

Some people are just dumb enough not to be able to figure out how to order here. Simple, choose your rice(white/brown), choose your meat, choose the type of curry and choose the level of spiciness. HOWISTHATCONFUSING? Seriously I come here a lot, A LOT and many times I have seen some dumbasses being confused with the menu. Sheeshhhh And I see people complain about the amount of meat inside and price is expensive and shit. Well it’s $ 8 ish for all this and if you can’t even afford this much, stay home. Call me mean for calling out such people but the business owners gotta make money too. Businesses are NOT charities so simple, can’t afford it? Stay home. Cook for yourself. That’s what I do when I’m broke. Cooking at home is a lot cheaper. Don’t go around being a mean ass and give out 3 stars or lower just cause you’re broke. Anyway, after all this rant, I LOVE the curry. Come here way too many times and always order the same thing over and over, Indian curry with beef huuuzaaahhh … Too damn good. Not really a fan of Vietnamese or Thai curry. Never had the soup curry, just cause it doesn’t sound interesting enough to me. Located in Donki. Can’t be more convenience than this. Oh btw, those of you who complain about parking situation? Stay home. Lock yourself in. Don’t go anywhere because this is Honolulu and parking is always difficult. CURRYFOREVER!

This place surprised the BIG kahuna out of me! I expected average at best! No, I didn’t expect I’d be writing a review for this average at best place simply called… THECURRY! Oh, how wrong was I. Proving once again don’t ass-u-me anything without sticking it in your mouth first! Really! THECURRY, CURRYAMBIANCE: It is conveniently located in the outdoor food-court area near Don Quijote on Kaheka. It is sandwiched between Sushi Robot & Hokkaido Ramen! You order at the window, but inside there’s a tiny bar that snugly fits three people. Of course, most eat on the picnic tables outside or take it to-go! So, you might luck out on a stool! THECURRY, CURRYGRUB: The curry is of good quality! The owner, Eric Ho, spent many years perfecting his homemade curries… Using only the finest and freshest ingredients. Absolutely NOMSG! All curry dishes comes w/2 scoops of white or brown rice, sticky rice, or rice noodles. You also get a nice green salad, macaroni salad, and of course the curry entrée… THECURRY, CURRYKNOWHOW: It’s interesting to have a place offering all worldly curry options under one roof! It works too! It’s actually very simple in ordering your entrée: 1. CHOOSETYPE: INDIAN, THAI, VIETNAMESE, or HOKKAIDO! 2. CHOOSEMEAT: BEEF, CHICKEN, VEGETARIAN! SHRIMPFOR $ MORE! 3. CHOOSESTARCH: WHITE, BROWN, STICKYRICE, or RICENOODLES! 4. SPICINESS: LEVELS1 – 6, INORDER… MILD, MEDIUM, HOT, EXTRAHOT, FIRE, EXTRAFIRE! THECURRY, CURRYSTAFF: The staff I’ve experienced were straightforward, but pleasant. The cashier working the front is soft spoken and might have you repeat your order once or twice! Hehe. Don’t get irritated tho! It’s actually good, so no mistakes on spiciness! THECURRY, CURRY I ORDERED: The ingredients are definitely of good quality. I ordered the Thai curry(level 2) with chicken. Sticky rice. Of course, it came w a fresh green salad and macaroni salad too. The Thai curry definitely hit the spot! I believe a mixture of both white & dark chunks of chicken– Definitely generous for curry! Red potato chunks, carrots, and some cabbage filled the bowl. I do like how everything is clearly separated. I was a happy camper with my lunch! Yes, I definitely recommend… THECURRY! I was pleasantly surprised with this simple, yet wholesome place, in a dated food-court, next to a giant grocery store from Japan! The curry was delicious, the vibe very casual, and if you’re one who loves bang for your buck… You got it here! $ 7& change and a spot on the stool! OVERALLGRADE: 4.0-STARS!(Solid) LIVEALOHA… UnilocalREVIEW #334

I have bypassed The Curry many times on my way to and from Don Quijote without much as much as a second thought. Although I like curry, I don’t love it or seek it out unless I am really craving it for some reason. The menu is really quite simple. You choose the type of curry you want: Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese or Thai. You then choose the protein type: beef, chicken or shrimp. You can also opt for just veggies. You then choose spiciness level(1 – 6) and what type of rice or noodles you want. Super straightforward and easy. They even offer a «most popular» sticker on the indian curry choice. I can be your typical follower in situations like this and ordered the shrimp curry, spiciness level=1(I’m a wuss) with white rice. Every plate comes with 2 scoops of rice, one scoop of mac salad and a side of tossed salad. I’ve never been anywhere else that gives you two salads, and I definitely enjoyed the change. The curry was flavorful and complex, as Indian curry should be. The mild was obviously not spicy, but it was still delicious. Maybe next time I can venture to the 2nd spiciness level. The mac salad also helps cut the strong flavors of the curry nicely. I love carrots in curry, and there a definitely large and plentiful chunks of carrot in the curry from The Curry. There were relatively few pieces of shrimp though and they were small and sad looking. I would probably get the beef next time. I asked in passing how long my food would take since I wanted to do some shopping at Don Quijote. The cashier said my food would only take 4 – 5 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 10. She was very soft spoken and I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times. It was inconvenient, but she was nice. There are several picnic tables that are shared between all of the little kiosks. Homeless people sometimes plant themselves there so it can be stinky and awkward at times. Thankfully, The Curry has it’s own seating area through the door on the left of where you order! How great!

Kept passing by the place and as always so tempted. But finally made the jump to get Thai chicken curry. You select the hotness you want I picked Fire but I think I’ll try one more hotter next time they even told me we can make it way hotter if you want. You also need to pick the kind of rice you want too white, brown, sticky, or rice noodles. Needless to say when I went I was so hungry all I got a pic of was of the rice, Mac salad and tossed greens doh! The curry was pretty good although more vegetables and Chicken would have been nicer. The spices in the curry were flavorful and you get a bunch of subtle favors you normally wouldn’t notice at many other curry places for the price I think it was a decent meal and worth the money I paid. I think that I will give a better review once I’ve tried maybe the Indian curry and the Japanese soup curry but that’s for the next time :-) Yes, I need to explore more of the curries it’s actually nice sitting inside where there’s only four seats.

Sooo good mild spicy Thai Curry($ 7~). Mmmmm… I’m in love! I shared a Thai Curry(chicken) plate with my sister. The curry came in a bowl which has potatoes, carrots, mint leaves, chicken, and onions. The soup is more watery compared to the Indian curry they have. Depends if you like a thicker texture or not. But the cashier said the Thai curry has coconut milk. Oh, so it also included 2 scoops of brown rice, mac salad, and tossed salad. I think it was all good overall except the mac salad. I didn’t like the taste much. I would totally come back to try the other stuff! Yummmmmy~~
