Warning: Ono Cheesesteak is Closed until August 1 for maintenance. I just had to find out the hard way :( We live in Waikiki so we walked by many time but it always looked really empty and not so alluring. After seeing the decent reviews we decided to try it. Mainly because it was late and not much was still open. I’ve only had the #1 cheese steak both the small and medium size. I can put down a lot of food but the medium was a little too much for me. I think because I had the philly fries as well. The cheesesteak is heavenly. Probably one of my favorite sandwiches I’ve had in a while. What surprised me was how good I feel after eating it. No bloating or crappy feeling that one can get after eating fast food. The philly fries are steak fries smothered in cheese wiz, jalapeño, and steak. Cheese wiz doesn’t sound that appetizing but on fries or nachos I actually prefer that generic cheese that stays melted so you get a more even coating rather than shredded cheese that dries rather quickly and you have huge chunks of cheese and dry fries. I’ve also gotten the sweet potato fries which were okay. Texture was good but I didn’t care for the seasoning they used on it. Curly fries are good but it’s pretty much the same as jack in the box. We got our food to go and half the brown bag was drenched in oil. I didn’t think it was anything special but if you love curly fries then you should order theirs. Three stars because It’s not a great place to hang out so we like to order and pick it up. Unfortunately they have only picked up there phone once the many times we’ve tried to call. I probably would have eaten here more often if they would just pick up there phone.

We were looking for something quick and easy to eat. Stumbled upon ono randomly in the corner and took a gamble. It’s your average Philly cheesesteak, but with some Hawaiian twist. I world recommend you look at the menu cardukkey, as the numbers don’t serve with a side. You need to make it a combo and it wasn’t super clear at first. They don’t offer free water so it’s best to just get a soda in this case. The food was pretty good and a little bit different which was nice. Get the kalua pork Philly it’s def. The one off.

Worst ten dollars ive ever spent. The cheesesteaks are so small, practically eating off a hot dog bun. Plus they gave me sweet instead of hot peppers. When i called to complain about the peppers the manager claims their batch this time of jalepenos arent hot. Ok??? No flavor to the meat either. Fries are overpriced too. So pissed im writing this review before i even finish the garbage sandwich. Stay away!

Great cheese steak and super friendly staff! Large sandwich filled up our family of 4 with fries and onion rings.

Just got back from Hawaii. Went to my favorites spot which has been remodeled it appears. But the bad part is the chicken is no longer chunks of chicken and cheese and mushroom but rather some type of ground chicken meat. Taste totally different from what I remember. A Philly cheese steak doesn’t taste good with something that feels like hamburger meat in it. So I no longer think this place is something special. Maybe their regular Philly cheeses steak sandwiches are good but not the chicken. This saddens me. They need to quit being cheap and use real chicken. Not ground up hamburger chicken meat.

For $ 3.95 the breakfast sandwich comes with a coffee! Not bad for the quality. I suggest the spam breakfast sandwich and for $.99 you can add a strip of bacon(«a» as in one per $.99, so don’t expect too much). I do not suggest the veggie sandwich. The spinach was a little off and it was a little runny for me. But each to their own :) Not sure about the other kinds of food(since we have only eaten breakfast there), but it does look delicious!

After walking for miles on the beach we took this street back to the hotel, and as we walked back we came across this place. They were pleasant at the counter, and the steak on the sandwich had a good flavor, but by far not a philly cheese steak. the mushroom cheese steak, had almost no mushrooms, or grilled onions, or for that matter almost no cheese on it, steak fry’s where fresh and hot, but they had no ketchup, napkins, or hot peppers in the place at all, I just don’t get restaurants that don’t have their restaurants stocked, for the day. Any ways their large cheese steak is 16″ long and runs 15. I guess for Hawaii that’s not high, but it was not worth it for the overall place. Heck they don’t even have a bathroom for customer. They didn’t do any thing for me to tell some one this is a place to go and get some thing to eat. Too bad for them, they could be as busy as other place are if they got their act together. Was in the mood for a sandwich this evening… But not subway or anything«plain.» Don’t get me wrong, subway and similar is great sometimes… Just not tonight. :) So, I decided to head here and upon walking in, I was greeted by a polite girl(didn’t catch her name, my bad). She answered a couple questions of mine nicely and knowledgeably(…is that even a word? Lol) and I decided to get the mushroom squash philly meal with no onion or peppers. In less than five minutes, I had fresh steak fries and a hot philly… I took it to go and 15 minutes later when I finally got home… Everything was STILL hot — Yay! :) My sandwich was delicious! The fries were as well, however not seasoned much(which perhaps is done so that ppl can season to their liking — I didn’t mind much and would prefer little seasoning to too much.) Overall, my tummy is full and I will be returning — Mahalo, ladies! :)

I went to this place a few times and it was pretty hit and miss. Always pretty tasty, one time they were very nice and gave me a cup of water for free with my sandwich, another time they refused to give free water, and got my order wrong and made a fuss about making the correct sandwich.

Have been to this place throughout the years it’s always been on the up and up. 4 stars atleast. But this time seriously hungriest ever and they do me super dirty. I even brought this up to the lady at the register she just laughed. Fuck this place I’ll go starving next time no more business for you… Weak…

Got the loco moco and everything was over cooked. The hamburger patty was as hard as a rock. Eggs were burnt. How do you burn eggs? The macaroni’s mayonnaise tasted extremely old. By far the nastiest shit I’ve ever eaten. Save your money and go across the street to IHOP. By the way, if you ask for condiments they’ll charge you 99 cents. Place is a joke. Only drunk people give this crap they call food 5 stars!

Let’s not beat around the bush — Ono is a divey, 24h restaurant that exists solely to feed the drunk customers leaving the surrounding dive bars on Kuhio. Considering its main competitors after midnight are(the equally sketchy) McDonald’s and Burger King, Ono is pretty great at 4AM. Though the food is a bit overpriced, it’s important to keep in mind that almost everything in Waikiki targets the clueless/car-less tourist with a full wallet. The cheesesteaks(#2 mushroom with onions!) hit the spot and the Kalbi plate is very flavourful, though a bit too salty for my taste. I’ve seen friends devour the Kalua pork, so I’m assuming it’s pretty good too. The seating area is usually tidy, though the same can’t be said of the rowdy customers late at night. They tend to really bring down the already non-existent ambiance, not that the ambiance is the reason anyone comes here. The service is hit or miss, with some cashiers being super nice and some not so much. Every item is made to order, so it takes a few minutes to get the food, especially if there are other people waiting ahead of you. I’ve been back, and I’ll continue to be back!

Deciding to try this joint again was a BIG mistake! I would give them –5(MINUS5) stars if possible because they are rip-off artists! After walking all the way back to the office, I found that the bacon I paid extra for wasn’t in my sandwich! So I called and spoke with the manager, who proceeded to tell me that she put a strip of bacon in my sandwich. I know what bacon looks like and I definitely know what bacon tastes like, and it was NOT in my sandwich! I literally took apart my sandwich looking for that strip of bacon! NOTTHERE! I asked how I could contact the owner of the establishment and the manager said they are off island and I would have to call the local number until they are in town – are you kidding me?!! AVOID this place because they’ve got a great scam going: 1. Charging extra for ingredients that you DON’T receive 2. No owner available to lodge complaints with 3. Unprofessional and terrible customer service from the manager BOO!

I have been here several dozen times and I can’t tell you if its good or bad. Only have been here after a few drinks and they make cheesesteak without the steak. The people who work here are nice to drunk people which I REALLY appreciate. One time someone said they import water from philly so their bread tastes correct but writing it out in this Unilocal revue sounds crazy so I’m gonna bet it’s not true.

I know I only have a recorded 5 check ins but let me assure you I was here about 9 times in 10 days. They were kitty corner to the place I stayed in Waikiki and was recommended by a local for 24⁄7 eats. I was a bit hesitant to try because it was never busy and two… well a Philly Cheesesteak in Hawaii isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. I decided to keep an open mind and try it out one day and one day turned into nine days. Yes we can all agree it’s not a true Philly based upon all reasons Philly. But boy is it good. Tons of flavor — if you add roasted garlic, mushrooms, onions and bacon to it — you got yourself an itis sandwich. Good bread — good meat — delicious cheese — good ingredients. My only major complaint is they are slow — even if it’s just a few folks or just yourself an order can take quite a bit of time before it comes out. I can’t really see into the kitchen but I think/hope they just make it to order and that’s why it takes so long. And don’t even think about getting the mac salad… all it is, is macaroni noodles and globs of mayo.

Haven’t missed a day since we’ve been here on vacation haha. Not only is it 24 hours open for u, the Angus beef sub sandwich is totally addicting. I highly recommend having a try here if you’re hungry. There’s a hidden doorway that leads you to the bathroom :) try and find it haha

In college, I used to go to a little café that made sandwiches and little pizzas. Their cheesesteak sandwich, I thought, was good– cheesy, oniony, bell peppery goodness. I’ve never really had cheesesteak sandwiches before; I’m not really a huge fan of sandwiches. So I didn’t realize how good they were in that little café until now. Ono cheesesteak is located on kuhio. The establishment is surprisingly large. You order at the cash register and can sit at one of the many tables to enjoy your food. I went for lunch and it was empty. There’s also a flat screen tv in the corner, which I don’t think they’d mind you changing if you didn’t want to watch what was playing. The food: I was a little disappointed. I love onions and bell peppers, but I didn’t even see the option of bell peppers on the menu! Whaaaaat!?? It’s a little pricy: $ 7 for a small sandwich. It was filling enough, but I really wish there were some bell peppers. They offer other food options too, including breakfast and lunch plates. The greatest thing? They’re open allllllll night! So awesome!

As we waited a whole 2 and a half years to return to this local favorite of ours, it was a huge let down. The place was empty which is the first bad sign, second bad sign was when there were tons of flies flying around. I immediately got grossed out but still ordered. The meat tasted day old and the food was NOTHING like it was before.(it was a meal that you only eat because you’re hungry) Also, the cashier offended me greatly when he said, are you sure you want a large? It’s big! And after I said, I hadn’t eaten that day and it was a long flight, he made a face like… «wow, you’re a fat ass»… Anyway, the food was NOT as good as it was the very first time we had it 2 years ago. Will not be going back on our next Hawaiian vacay!

It’s open 24 hours so usually service and the workers that work there are not going to be in an upbeat mood like other places on the island. Coming here you will notice the tables and their many cards and notes in the glass of the tables, just funny reading the comments. I would get the Philly cheese steak with garlic and mushrooms. Really good. Sweet Potato Fries were good as well. Good filler food if you want to feel full.

In the heart of ratchet city, but where else can you go for a cheese steak craving in the wee hours of the early morning? Just wear sunglasses when you’re walking down to this place, as you’ll probably be blinded by the flashing blue lights from HPD and the red lights from passing ambulances. It’s an adventure just getting here. Then again, I normally go here after 2AM, so I guess that’s around the time when someone drops their tool box outside, and you’re just tripping all over the ratchets. There’s even a friendly bouncer outside of Ono Cheese Steak at this time. We should our IDs to him before going in, but we actually didn’t. He was just there if things got out of hand. Like if people wanted to return their half-eaten cheese steaks. Which should be rare, as the food is decent. If you don’t mind eating oily and greasy steak, cheese, bread, and fries, in that order. And they don’t have cups of ice, so any drinks you order will be in the bottle. The clear plastic ones, not the brown or green glass ones. They have sweet potato fries too. Eat them fast though. They get soggy quick.
